MX5 just a great, modern version of a traditional sports car. |

As you seem to be in touch with these people why don't you look up which vehicle won the "Outrage" magazine most popular car as voted by the community several years in a row. In case you can't find it, it was a V8, made in Australia and the first two letters of the model were XR...... How do I know? LS1 posted about it a LOT back then.... |

If your criteria is based solely on image and looks then yes, it is a girls car. Although it does handle and drive well, but that's not really the point of the question is it?

My mate has one, he loves it.
Someone however stabbed and cut the roof and had to replace. $1100 May be a nice car, but remember, are parts readily available and how much.

On topic, the answer is no unless the owner is a woman. Then again, my local hairdresser (a woman) drives a GT, so that must be a woman's car.

Mates, I have no hang ups. From what I've read, the MX-5 is a GOOD car. If the hat fits, wear it.
I drive the FG XR6 Ute because I need it at this time. I am currently persona non permanento addresso, I need to carry my stuff from point to point. If I was settled in a house, I would be happy with a Focus - or maybe even a MX-5. No machismo here. It's a motor car.

The picture of the two Mazda above are not bad looking cars if any mx5's came like that here (haven't seen any so either they did not make it here like that or are only a limited number) The question is not whether they handle or if they are a true sports car, or even if someone is ignorant or not, but if the Mazda mx5 is a girls car or not? We, well I mean I live here in australia (can't speak for everyone) this is an australian forum so I can only assume that we are talking bout the australian version mx5. Those cars are very plain to look at and don't have much power either. The australian version would have to be aimed at the female market they have that feminine look. Heck they even loosely look like a wide bodied convertible 121 bubble car from the 90,s my ex loved the 121 and to give credit for a car that on a track I think would give the mx5 a run for its money for handling and power to weight!

Shame that this car has the appeal towards women, and effeminate men.
Same thing happened to the VW Karmann Ghia, which I always thought as a cool sports car. And I think the Mustang has a bit of that appeal too.

And to think my work mates use to call my old ST170 a hairdressers car... I tried to explain that a hair dresser would not buy the st because they probably would go for the half the cost base model focus... then Id take them for a white knuckle spin through the Pt Germain Gorge. Ps Id doubt the latest manly gt would keep up with the st through
there

They might be a well balanced and reasonably built car, however, I put them in the same category as the S2000 and Porsche Boxter. A car that if you took a mate for a ride and everyone who sees you automatically thinks that you are a couple, just doesn’t float my boat.

Next time I’m make sure that some photographer isn’t following me around. Now that I think of it, I should have been paid for that pic.

Sorta got the answers I was expecting. A few different types of people easily grouped.
1. People get what the MX5 is about, the drivers out there 2. People who are set on image because their mates might laugh at them, might be thought as a homosexual, a girl, not a man. Amazing how something like a Mustang which is a RWD and does comes in a convertable is far more acceptable to the male sex. I think this thread is done, Mods please close.

Some amazing comments on the thread.
"A car that if you took a mate for a ride and everyone who sees you automatically thinks that you are a couple, just doesn’t float my boat." I almost spat my coffee out when I read that. GOLD!
