I agree there ain't nothing quite like jumping in a new car that is fresh & clean, the odometer only in double digets and of course that new car smell that we can't get enough of

I've been lucky enough to do this twice, however I just bought a car that retailed for $70,000 when it was new for 20 K one owner 70,000 KM on the dial, 4 years old , still the current body shape, immaculate condition inside and out and drives like a new car. Now there is no way I could afford to buy one new.

With this kind of value around at the moment, the only way I will buy a new car again if if I can easily afford one

Presently I'm enjoying a high end motor car without shelling out a bomb. Depreciation isn't a big concern and the bugs have been ironed out by the previous owner

But each to thier own

It would have to be Statesman / Caprice V8 - guy at work has got one , looks pretty good and drives well , only minus is fuel consumption which sits around 20l/100km and he is a very placid driver.

How? I had 2 VE V8s, SS manual wagon and a SSV manual sedan and both would average around the 11.5-12.5 mark. When I drove placidly I could manage as low as 9.8lph. How it is possible that a statesman or caprice is twice as bad on fuel with the same engine, I'd even hazard a guess that the wagon is the heaviest out of the 4.

I could also go out side and take a photo of my current VF auto SSV average l/100km which is most likely around the mid 11.5-12-3 which just my standard driving that being slightly heavy footed and also would include a period of towing a trailer for ~80km and sitting ideal for a while last night.

SumoDog68

what do you expect with fuel consumption when you have to tow a trailer with a 300 ltr fuel tank just to get to the shops

I thought so too. Huge bang for my buck
The o"l XB coupe is a manual. Given that I do a bit of driving due to my job I'm not keen on a manual car as a daily

Different story when I'm out on the weekends
Cheers

As the decision to pull out of Aus was probably decided well before the model up grade and the long wheel base isnt their biggest seller I guess GM simply didn't want to spend the money

You'd think they would at least change the front end to give it the new look, like the wagon and ute have the same rear as the VE, if its different I can't tell.

Front end was left the same due to the fact the majority of them are exported.
Something about them having to be re-evaluated for cop cars in the US if they got a new look?

That's a lot of car for not very much money. Looks extremely well kept too. What l/100km do you get in it, around 13?

the majority of my driving is free way- driving to and from work . I'm getting around 560 KM out of a tank (on average)

It was in exceptional condition as the previous owner hardly drove it. He is single so the back seat and front passenger seat are new and he had a seat cover on the drivers seat. It had a good service history, but it did need a good clean and a polish which took a whole weekend, but you could tell it was a good car and the pre purchase inspection confirmed this

I agree its a lot of car considering what I paid. I was surprised my self when I started looking around

The commodore SS were around a similar price. why would you by one of those when you can have the flagship for pretty much the same price

I average about the same driving to and from Adelaide each day. I miss most of the traffic in the morning but get the mid afternoon traffic on the way home. Open road, best Ive got out of a 6L is a bit over 700km (manual). For a big old 6L V8 they aren't that bad on fuel and give enough punch for day to day life.

All true, when I was looking at a FG XR6 a little while back I was also looking at the G6E as for the same price 2nd hand you get better value for money in the G6E.

No different here to a SS and what you have, more class and gadgets for a great price.
