Just give us a down specced Cadillac CTS and CTS-V with Holden badges.
That would probably keep the majority happy. And the ATS as the Torana... ATS-V as the XU-1. I know.... keep dreamin. |

What the poster BENT_8 forgot to mention about the 'magna' is that he has a 2001 Mitsubishi Magna TJ VRX 5sp manual
Quite forgetful to mention that, seems like important info actually to leave out Very very similar 0-100 times for the apparent BF XR6 compared to the VRX BF XR6 with wife weight, yeh can see it being beaten by a more alert VRX driver

It would be nice that if Ford was asked why they dropped the falcon name, which they should, why they think it would be bad idea not to treat the general public like fools in thinking the car is of the same lineage.
Spin it back on GM when ever you can IMO.

I thought the body kit reference might have given it away but true to form as with ol' mate, all the critics saw was the word Magna and overlooked its abilities. |

Back in my more reckless days I drag raced a mates EL XR6 Auto against my mum's stock TJ Magna Auto and the Magna blew the EL away, not even close!
Also, he had his usual drag race prep (slowly spinning the wheels at the start and he knew the best way to take off in the EL as he drag raced it at the strip) whilst I simply put the magna in D and had my foot on the brake. Lights went green and all I did was move my foot to the fast pedal and floor it and the magna won all day every day. We all had a good laugh about it because we knew the Magna was fast we just were suprised at how much faster because the EL wasn't a slouch and ripped some pretty awesome skids! |

Oh dear a Falcon was beaten by a Magna on a public road and the driver was red faced in front of his wife....oh the shame.. You know I once “just" lost a traffic light duel to a VX SS 6 spd manual in my little 5 spd Laser with the wife sitting next to me, it was hilarious to see him wonder “what the **** had just nearly happened, it was only because the lane’s merged and I backed off otherwise we would have collided, I often see the tool in that same SS every morning on the way to work and still give him the look of near defeat by a little FWD 4 banger. Just goes to show kiddies that dream’s can and do happen. |

I once won a traffic light drag race with a commodore vs my 3.9 V8 manual Discovery lol , sure it was wet and the Disco just launched being a permanent 4 wd , hey any horse on his preferred track can be a winner..........

Theres a weird car called Holden Malibu, probably its an updated Epicafail? Looks curiously like a VF commodore. Perhaps this is the new commodore, kind of like how Daewoo Kalos became the new Barina.. Considering the sales went up when the Holden badge was attached to the Daewoo, I really wonder if Holden buyers would even notice if a Commodore badge was quietly put on a Malibu.

I still reckon and hope, will be based on the Cadillac versions.
They have a coupe, wagon and normal sedan version. And crikey the engines ...

The obvious difference I guess is that Ford have decided to "retire" the Falcon name, whereas Holden are (foolishly IMHO) going to continue with the Commodore name

The Commodore name is gold for Holden. People don't care if it's FWD. Holden buyers have proved they are loyal. Falcon name unfortunately is on the nose. Ask Nissan if they were happy to retire the Pulsar name for the Tiida when they did?

Well, I guess we will see if people care or not once it is released, I know any of my mates with Commodores, believe the car is dying after local manufacturing concludes.

The purists might say this. The mum and dad buyers won't care. How many Cruze owners no they are driving a re-badged South Korean Daewoo.

Its apparently late 2017 when local production is supposed to cease, yet they are already advertising a future model?
Me thinks local production will cease sooner than expected...

They should kill it with dignity but having no replacement then having to think of something quick has lead to this.

why built in china
they bloody better have two production lines, one for the chinese market ( not that they'll sell any there) and one for aus and nz markets, merc's and vw made for the chinese market in china for example are pov-pack basic models that won't pass australian standards due to manufacturing standards. why do you think most european vehicles sold here are not made in asia. my brothers navara is built in spain and his is vastly different to one made in thailand. the build quality and materials are cleary better. fwd sucks in big cars. in any car actually. fwd cars are cheaper to make, cheaper manufacturing + same rrp = more money.
