A bit one sided.

Should have been an FPV versus HSV comparison....

Result would have been the same, the Xr8 is essentially the same car as the FPV R Spec

Yep, Brembos on the front and red painted caliper on the rear. Some ***** about them and want the 6/4, but for most people, they do a great job.

Are the 6/4s an option with the XR8?

No, would be nice though for a heavy car. I would assume most buyers wouldn't mind spending a couple grand more optioning up for better brakes considering the car is already well priced to begin with

^^^^ It was around $5 to $6K as an option in the FPV days.

Best I could do was $5,300 fully installed through the selling dealer and I recovered $2,000 in selling the originals; $3,300 nett incl GST.

You mean the same magazines who are about 5 to 10 years behind technology in delivering content to their customers compared to US and Euro equivalents Ironic isnt it.

Well played sir, well played. Sums up the motoring media in this country overall, actually.

Real Apples with real apples.

Note, XR8 full second to 100 quicker.
Note .2 second slower around wakefield park.
Fact. If the car has such better acceleration but yet doesnt lap as quick means that Ford have not done much in the chassis and handling stakes.
Fact is Ford have served up a car that isnt befitting for a last of. Apart from DAB and some DTRL's its the same ****. Hence the only FGX's i have seen so far are those with brass tags driven by employees.

6.4 seconds to 100 kays!! My old 220 XR8 would run that. Holden hasnt done much in the engine department have they?
Put some decent rubber on the XR8 and it would own the Redline anytime anywhere.

You'd want to hope so wouldn't you?
The XR8 is effectively an R-Spec GT with 335kw (plus a few more).
The SSV is what 270kw?

Anybody else notice the "race driver" they hired said he'd driven the Vfs many times but it appeared it was his very first shot in the GT?
And I still query why they EVER do track tests as these cars will never make it to a track let alone survive track days. But they will make it to the odd drag strip and do plenty of straight line pulling on public roads. The way probably 99% of people will ever give it a strap(a straight line)

Anyway.....going by their drag times.....I'd throw the review....or the cars out the window as lemons anyway

To give some idea on the car's overall performance.... straightline, braking and cornering. You might be one dimensional, but that doesn't mean everyone else is.

I always wonder in this day and age where people get the opportunity to unleash their cars on the street to determine which is the quickest.
Unless they’re silly enough to want to them impounded they won’t ever reach speeds nor have the time to enable a big enough gap between the combatants to matter.
The Review is a boring rehash and I’d be happy to own either car and as far as the differences between them well that’s just horses for courses in my book.

The HSV looked reasonably clean to me when compared to a new Porsche.

Agreed
The HSV dials and layout are clean and easy to read.
Some of the newer dash layouts and displays are waaaaay to PlayStation/X box with too many colours and distractions. Those Porsche ones are like a Christmas tree.

See- I love the GT3 and 911 Turbo. Is clean, big round dials that are uncluttered. Agree the Carerra S looks like a Christmas tree- assume those lights go off and they put them on for photo? purposes only?

The Holden to me is fussy, the rev counter has an internal circle, which is untruded by a smaller arc circle of the smaller dial underneath, and the smaller dial has the needle pocking up like an unwanted woodie intruding where it is not wanted.

Makes me feel somewhat dyslexic. But this is personal, one man's medicine is another's poison and all that .....

Fussy- synonyms:
overdecorated, over-ornate, overdone, overworked, busy, cluttered, laboured, strained, florid

Now - in my previous post I explained why I thought it was overworked, busy, cluttered and strained, otherwise as I described "fussy".

"the rev counter has an internal circle, which is untruded by a smaller arc circle of the smaller dial underneath, and the smaller dial has the needle pocking up like an unwanted woodie intruding where it is not wanted"

They win when a person comes along who likes the dash, or can live with the dash, and buys the car. As I said its subjective, people out there may like it, but I hate it- buts that's just me.
