As an example, I've owned two territories in my time: an sy tx and a petrol szii. The sy was purchased from new through to around 100k km and, other than regular servicing, I don't recall there being any significant issues with it. And the includes the dreaded balljoint failure. We purchased the szii second hand. I don't recall the exact kms on the clock but I think it was around the 40 -50k km mark. The ex now owns it, and it has just shy of 200k km on it now, and, again, other than regular servicing, and the thermo fan running full issue, it's not had any significant issues. In fact, I offered to buy it off the ex yesterday, and she told me that, other than her winning lotto, there was no way she would part with it. She loves it that much. So, as much as you don't want people to discount your experience, you shouldn't discount the experience of others, either. And there's a few in here who have had good experiences with territories.

I'm aware of that. I was referring specifically to bent's experiences with his territories. Again, I'm not sure his experience is representative of the general experience across the board with territories.

I'm sure if you wait long enough he will give you his own opinions of them.

watching from the sideline is funny at times.
TBH should just respect each others opinions for correct Fox, we all experience things differently no matter the commodity. Good and ordinary in everything, I go by you get what you pay for and even then you can get caught out. There is always Ford bias here pretty obvious why within reason. Bent you sure have been a flipper of cars, couldn't be bothered going through all those rego transfers buying selling drive me barra.

Thanks for the replies. We have driven some SZIIs and came away thinking they couldn't hold a candle to our SY in the steering and AWD feel respects. Otherwise, they are an improvement in many ways.

I put forward Territory as a viable option so I guess that could be considered a positive opinion. I also outlined some common faults experienced by Territory owners, however, I never claimed it effected all examples. Having said that, the youngest Territory is going on 9yrs old now, so anyone considering buying one will likely encounter Some of those issues sooner or later so its worth noting and certainly worth mentioning to assist the OP with their decision making and search. I'll also say the 3.5 in Kluger are succeptible to oil gallery blockage where regular servicing is not maintained. I can say that because im unbiased.. |

I can assure you, most of those cars were the best examples you could find, the few that werent when they came into my ownership sure were better when they left and most of it done by myself, not too many cheques written.

Guys and Gals
I've been watching this thread for the last day or so. I'll start by saying that BENT can 'upset' me as much as the next guy, however... His is still allowed to express an opinion particularly when the OP asks for one. Sorry HIPO, I am going to throw you under the bus here, but HIPO even added to the suggestion of a Kluger and no one battered an eyelid. All I am saying everyone is to play the ball, not the person. |

Back in the 70's and 80's, Toyota did a great job, around the world, of improving the quality and reliability of heir cars. To the point of becoming superior to most of their competitors. However they're been allowed to trade off that reputation for far too long. It's a HUGE problem in the second hand market, because when people are looking for help, some numpty always pipes up with "buy Toyota." This results in Toyotas being grossly overpriced. Kluggers typify ALL the problems with Toyota. Styled by a blind monk, conceived for people that see cars as a simply an appliance, boring, over-priced, and unpleasant to drive.

See the way I view it, the OP asks a question, people give suggestions, its then back to the OP to sort through those suggestions. At no point did the OP ask you for your thoughts on other peoples suggestions. You simply cant help yourself, particularly if the word Toyota is in a post of mine as PG pointed out. |

I got my sister into one a couple of years ago. Initially I thought a Territory. Instantly ruled out the SYs, they simply haven’t stood the test of time. Paint fade, rust, shit B series interior build quality, antiquated ICC system. Unless you drop the purchase price in repairs on suspension/brakes you’ll be forever chasing your tail keeping on top if it. Not an issue if you want a neglected beater to get around in, if you want something presentable, forget it. Considered SZ, all models. Ruled out the diesels after seeing a few examples with thousands of $$ of invoices carried out in the engine alone. My preference was SZ Titanium RWD, but they were thin on the ground. Ruled out Territory aafter the half dozen or so SZ I looked at all had rust around the tailgate latch, hinges and under the 3rd row seats. So paid a bit more and went with Kluga. Solid built quality. Reliable. Resale/easy to move on. Ive done a couple of long trips in it and they eat up highway kms quite well and sit solid on the road. Of course I tried to convince her to get a Octavia or Passat wagon (when they still made them) but typical woman made up a list of excuses as to why she ‘needs’ a SUV. |

Truth. Apparently, Toyota have problems. Their biggest problem is: "Geez, we're selling so many cars that we're a mile in front of the competition. We must be doing something right."

I've decided that my next purchase will be a Mazda 6 wagon, but we briefly considered a Kluger. Only thing that put me off is that I've never fallen for the SUV fad, and I'm resisting the urge to buy one.

Go on, dare to be different. The Mazda 6 wagon is quite a lovely looking vehicle.

Not to mention both my territory and Everest use less fuel than my falcons (eb, ef, el, ba, bf2 and fg) and are more comfortable to travel in.

Ok, but you’re comparing old tech 6 cylinder petrol to more modern common rail diesels. Maybe compare your SUV fuel consumption to say a modern diesel Euro wagon that averages around 6l/100km and will get into the 4s on the highway. Another factor is the stability of an SUV if or when the need to take evasive action, stop quickly, put a wheel in the dirt through inattention. None will perform as good as a decent sedan/wagon in the same circumstances. Despite the perception they are safer, another BS justification to owning one. |

Most people buy the cars they want.
A few people get upset that other people buy different cars than what they would prefer. Most SUVs at some point, if not still, had a sedan or hatch equivalent. The market has spoken. I'll never know why it bothers other people. No one is forced to buy a car. New or used. Whatever style. Time for the minority to accept that are a minority. It doesn't make it right or wrong. There is no right or wrong.

Absolute truth. Some people on here who rag on Toyota because there are customers in the market who prefer Toyota's product instead of Ford's product should take heed of your comment.

I was referring more to the style of vehicle people choose.
