The Entrance car show and found Ken's Humble Pie.



Huge event and these guys looked like they didn't crack a sweat.

Counter was 5 deep with trays of pies coming out every minute by the looks, watching the fantastic co ordination of the staff dancing around each other while the bakers were on the production line.



Scored myself a chunky steak pie for later but wanted a proper sit down meal, so ate next door, gorging down a chicken schnitzel burger and works.



Sorry if this is starting to turn into a food review.

When you heat pies at home what method do you use?
I usually use a pre heated oven.
I have seen posts and reviews of people using Air Fryers.
Are you a Sauce or No Sauce Person?
I am a Tomato Sauce person, Berenberg or Mon are my two favourites.
I hate it when you go to a Bakery etc for a Pie and the sauce is horrible.
I was watching a Pie review and the reviewer put Worcestershire sauce on the Pie.
Does anyone else do this?

Not a big pie eater but occasionally buy a 4 pack from the supermarket (usually 4n20). If frozen, I normally zap them in the microwave for a few minutes and then finish off in the oven to crisp them up again.

Always tomato sauce although I can do no sauce. I know.. What an animal! Haha

20 Sec zap in the microwave & finish on bake in the air fryer..... only bakery stuff though!

If Im reheating a pie, I'll use the oven to help keep the pastry crisp. I really dislike soggy pastry in pies. Ticks me off when they dont hold together and split apart.

As for sauce, prefer not to have it to be able to taste the gravy. If the gravy is non existent and the filling is dry I will add sauce or a relish of some description.

Worcestershire sauce??? Thats a new one Ive never heard of. That said I dont judge. If that is what they prefer, then good for them.

Pre-heated oven is best, but if you want it sooner, heat it in the microwave and finish off in the oven.
No sauce on pies or good sausage rolls, but I put tomato sauce on average sausage rolls.
Worcestershire sauce is good on a steak, but I’d never put it on a pie.
I hate it when you buy a pie from the bakery and it is boiling hot.

For pies, I'll pre heat oven to 180 for 5 minutes, pie middle shelf for 20 minutes to heat and keep crispy.

Homemade semi roasted chips to go with pie......... cut Desiree or Dutch creams to shape, pan fry in a little butter with a little salt over them on medium heat, tossing as you go while oven tray is pre heating (180) for 5 mins.

Transfer chips (wedges or shapes) into tray separating them evenly, (optional sprinkle with dill, oregano, morrocan seasoning)on tray.

20 minutes later golden chips ready with the pie.

Also works with swede, parsnip, pumpkin etc varying the time a little.

A little tomato relish is great with the pie.

Some pies I've had must be made with a little Worcestershire sauce due to the taste.

Preheated oven for the few times I do that at home. Microwave only if its from the freezer just to take the chill off.

And I am strictly no sauce.
Cant stand the stuff.
Even a bit on the bag from the lady using the same tongs to pick up previous sauced pie is enough to ruin my bakery experience!

I cannot understand people who just add Salt and Pepper to food before eating the food.

I had a Supermarket Pastie and Pie for Dinner from National Pies made by Tasmanian Bakeries in Hobart.
The first time for me and they were fantastic I preheated the oven to the recommended temp and heated as per the instructions.
They were sensational better than some local bakeries I have tried.
I had the Classic Pastie and Classic Beef Pie as that was all Woolies stock in my area.
National Pies Products are a discontinued Product at Coles.

If you look at all my pics from the past, the relish is always on the side sometimes its good, others, well.
Along with coffee is always in a real cup, Cav. One needs to consumed coffee in a stylish leisurely fashion at the table.

As for the applying salt and pepper before even taking a bite, these people need to be shot, hanged, drawn and quartered.

I spotted these at my local bakery. The trip was originally to find a pie or two for dinner, but these are equivalent to 2 large sausage rolls and for $4, what could possibly go wrong.




As for condiments, they shouldn't be required if the pie, pastie, sausage roll etc. is of good quality and flavour, otherwise, the condiment becomes the main flavour. With cheap and nasty products, by all means because they would be virtually tasteless otherwise.

I sometimes add gravy to a pie with chips at home but that's mostly for the benefit of the chips.
