My gut feeling based on traffic movements and ambient noise, is more people in Sydney were breaking their isolation today, than yesterday. Will be interesting to see if it’s a trend. (My prediction was, most would be getting out and about by tomorrow week, virus or not.)

So the only important info buried in all the waffle, there is now a max 2 people restriction in public down from 10.

Not mine. Just saying things will go back to 'normal' pretty quickly, and if you look at the trajectory of general behaviour of society over the decades, its not improving.

Just a realist.

It’s not waffle...
People need to listen to the entire message so there is some understanding of the intent. It helps with trying to digest the strategy to help avoid a whole of BS debate later on. These situations are dealt with on a day by day basis and not with the wisdom of hindsight.

Listen to the messaging, follow instructions and lets all help each other get to the other side of this safely. It’s already becoming a dangerous burden from a mental health perspective as well and I fear we may lose people to more than just the virus.

Everyone needs to do their bit and tow the line. The tough has just got going and we will all sacrifice something before we have a vaccine and we can move on properly.

The media certainly hasn't helped. Instead of making the messaging clear, they intentionally confuse the situation.
Either that, or they really are stupid.
If a simple farm-bred tradie like myself can figure it out, surely these university educated journalists can.

Gotta LOL @ the melts by landlords in the comments section of many news articles to the news that renters in financial hardship due to job losses wont have to pay them rent for 6 months.
Many of them threatening to throw the renter out at the end of the 6 months.
I don't think they've realised that once they've tossed out their current renter, the new one they'll end up with probably got evicted from somewhere else for the same reason, it'll just be the rental property version of musical chairs to the renters.

Media make their money by the amount of traffic that visits or tunes in to their page or broadcast, so its not in their interests to stay calm. every headline is designed to get people to click on it or tune in to it. The more traffic, the more money they get from advertisers using their pages or station.

If they can get some 'expert' to chime in with some alarmist spiel about what 'could' happen then all the better. It is largely speculative but for some strange reason the public seem to believe it more than the official source of info.

The govt can't issue advice that is going to specifically cover every scenario for every type of situation or job etc. Most people with half a brain can figure out the gist of it. Its not hard.

I work in an 'essential' service. Ive seen the worst that this pandemic brings out in people. I fully respect and follow the guidelines. Yes i still am employed, but due to clients shutting their doors, i have no work so as of tomorrow am on forced leave. Its a very stressfull time. Its leave. I still have the work car and associated work stuff. I do have work lined up for tomorrow, but its not through my employer and its not meaningful, its just doing stuff for my mum at her house. So she pays the $32 for parts and labour i get lunch. So yeah, not great, and its a sign of the times. I am on entitlements, but theyre not infinite. Its a shaky time...

You're charging your Mother for parts? I hope she charges you for your lunch.

If it’s that dire I can chat with my client tomorrow - I’d like him to bring forward some basic work (doesn’t even have an RCD in this house).

There was another bloke doing some of it initially but I don’t know if he was actually promised the balance. People forget that household electrocution was a well enough known fatality, even through the seventies.

I think it's due to people prepping for the next wave of restrictions. Last week was a 'lets see what happens week' whereas due to the situation not easing and more talks of further restrictions and financial safety nets people are seeing that things will get worse before they get better.

I can tell you that the supermarkets were packed today with shoppers.

We are near 4,000 cases if not over and it wasn't that long ago that the whole country was in very low triple digits.

There will be a lot of interesting announcements tomorrow I'm sure.

It may be due to my own safety standards, **** like fibreglass ladders and insulated boots etc, but on the odd occasion i do get shocked. So that's not a yearly thing. Its far from that. Ive never tripped an rcd with my body. I have taken out a 26 story high rise before. But like the saying a mechanic drives the worst car, my place i rent out is rcd protected and up to spec, my house is still all fuses. Not even plug in curcuit breakers. Im not scared of darwinism.

Watched ScoMo this evening and he doesn’t look well, but with less waffle from his speech which is good.

He has given the “economic stimulus” rhetoric the flick, after all how do you stimulate something in partial collapse? It may be a mute point but it was always about providing support and not stimulus. The stimulus comes once we have defeated C19.

Would dearly like him to provide clarity as to next steps and options on the table, we are adults. This would avoid the perceived contradictions. For example, just how many stages are there in this gig?

Landlord, renter moratorium sounds good, but I can see this moratorium causing scams, rip-offs and frustration everywhere - and ScoMo’s answer you’ll need to work it out between the landlord, the renter, and the bank.

How do you maintain a depreciate schedule, what does this mean to signed legally binding contracts (as they make no provision for this), is negative gearing included in the moratorium, how do you sell a unit in the midst of a rental moratorium, what will this do to prices, do lines of credit still apply, what are the tax implications, the mind boggles at the can of worms this has opened. Until this is fully understood then as a landlord with an empty unit, I might simply leave the unit empty rather than accept unknown risks/costs.

As mentioned on ABC Insiders this morning, it's about time public servants felt some pain. While private sector workers are losing their jobs in the millions the public sector thinks it's immune, for now. It won't be, time to clean up the rort that is state and federal public sector workers.

40% pay cut to everyone above A08 grade, you wouldn’t notice any degradation to service. You could ask the the public servant executives to write a small narrative on what they do and why it’s important, when you unpack their responses, their primary purpose would be to manage the departments budget i.e. fully spend their allotted taxpayers money

The public service can find money on all sorts of BS, I was consulting to a major Qld department when the gay marriage vote was being decided. First we got issued with rainbow lanyards and then the Qld government hired emotional crisis managers available to staff if the gay vote didn’t go as planned.
