I will look closer at this later, but Lartey was reportedly taping together documents 4 years ago, he left the whitehouse on March 23 of 2018. (Politico and others carried the story mid 2018, saying that he spent the first 5 months of the Trump administration with the tape, then, it seems, he seemed to no longer need the tape for the next 9 months before he left)

I am not sure if NineMSN did some crazy history mining to get that info, or if it was a federated mining effort.

If re-taping together is still happening, I would expect I suspect another career bureaucrat would have leaked it more recently.

Its just heart breaking, I heard a report this morning about oxygen supply, and that its not actually the market supply thats the issues its the fact that the piping in the hospitals can not keep up with the increase demand/flow in the inbuilt infrastructure!

Of course its all to do with reporting, but, scary that the UK with ~60M people have the same death rate as the US with ~330M...population density etc would have a bit to do with it too but its just crazy.

Wuhan doctors say they were told to lie about severity of COVID-19 in secretly filmed video
Doctors in Wuhan have been secretly filmed admitting they knew how serious coronavirus was at the start of the outbreak but that they were told to lie.

Frank Chung JANUARY 20, 2021

Chinese doctors in Wuhan have been secretly filmed admitting that they knew how serious coronavirus was at the start of the outbreak but that they were ordered to lie by authorities.

The damning testimony, which adds to the growing evidence that the Chinese Communist Party intentionally misled the global community in the early stages of the pandemic, is contained in a new documentary by UK broadcaster ITV called Outbreak: The Virus That Shook The World.

China informed the World Health Organisation (WHO) of the first 27 cases of COVID-19 on December 31, 2019, but did not report any deaths until mid-January – and even then were insisting there was no evidence of human-to-human transmission.

But senior medical professionals in Wuhan, filmed by a citizen journalist, say they knew about deaths as early as December and that it was clear the virus was spreading between people.

“We all felt there shouldn’t have been any doubt about human-to-human transmission,” one doctor said in the footage, broadcast on Tuesday night UK time.

“Actually, at the end of December or beginning of January, the relative of someone I know died of this virus. Many of those living with him were also infected including people I know.”

Another doctor said: “We knew the virus transmitted from human to human, but when we attended a hospital meeting we were told not to speak out. Provincial government leaders told the hospitals not to tell the truth.”

Surprised to see the pronouncement from incoming US administration that all (human) international arrivals will need to quarantine for ten days and be further bound by other recent health-based impositions. Lot of organisational hurdles but surely will boost the services sector.

Tokyo Olympics to be cancelled for coronavirus: report

Very very disappointed for Japan. How can China now go ahead with the winter olympics? Is it possible to share it with Japan?

ITV is generally pretty reliable and is not known to spread disinformation, so this might have some merit. But you can generally gauge the credibility of the evidence by how the rest of the world's government reacts. Scomo can say whatever the hell he likes now, damage has already been done and its not going to reverse whether he keeps quiet or not. Although he does need to remember we have a citizen in China at the moment as part of the WHO team.

Hearing that the Japanese government has decided to cancel the '2020' Olympics due to the COVID pandemic, and will seek permission to hold them at the next available spot, which would be 2032.

It's a shame, but not really surprised. I said back in November that the chances of them taking place in July this year were very slim.

So.. Japan will have to wait another 11 years to host the games? What happens to all the infrastructure and facilities? Japan was well ahead, and completed almost all construction in 2018, two years ahead of schedule. 11 years (14 years really) sitting idol, or being used for other purposes will probably degrade them somewhat. The upkeep to maintain in top condition for 2032 will be difficult and costly.

WTF is wrong with this world when you have to rely on Murdoch media to report some fact checking?

https://www.news.com.au/sport/olympi...054bf9886f198d

Looks like the decision is not done and dusted yet. I would really like to see it get postponed. I don't see why it can't happen in 2022, who cares if it conflicts with the China winter olympics, there is enough gap in between, and who cares if the next Olympics is only 2 years after that.

A couple of concerning reports in the news.

One, the UK variant is not only 60-70% more transmissible, but UK studies now stating it is also more deadly.

Two, Israel have released data that states 12,000+ Israelis who have been vaccinated (Pfizer) still got infected with COVID-19.

This is not good news coming from two of the worst hit countries.

Israeli Covid chief's claim single vaccine dose less effective 'inaccurate'

In remarks reported by Army Radio, Ash had said a single dose appeared “less effective than we had thought”, and also lower than Pfizer had suggested.

Addressing Ash’s quotes, the Israeli Ministry of Health said that the “full protective impact of the vaccine” had not yet been seen.

“The comments of the Israeli Covid-19 commissioner regarding the effect of the first dose of the vaccine were out of context and, therefore, inaccurate,” the spokesperson said.

Of those 12'400 people who were infected after getting the vaccine, 12'331 had only received the first shot. Pfizer themselves have said both shots (spaced apart) are required to achieve the proper immunity.

69 people got both shots and still got infected, but there's no data yet to say whether they'd caught it before they got the second shot, or in the period between getting it and building up immunity, or afterwards and contracted it anyway.

Pretty sure the UK have also been leaning towards only letting their population get the first shot so as more people can get a lesser-effective result rather than fewer people getting a more effective one, despite some medical experts warning against doing it that way. Hopefully the news from Israel shows why it's better to follow pfizer's protocol and let people have the two jabs.

Thanks for posting the details Leesa. 👍

Yup - 12400 infected on 2400000 vaccinated - those with the booster 200 times better off

Heard a doctor involved in this interviewed today.

His words:

"Early stages"

How much more deadly? "10 in a thousand die previously, it looks like 13 in a thousand with this strain"

Doesn't really change anything, its transmissible profile is still the real issue.

Note: As not all Australian States report at the same time, the data below is based on the previous full day reporting.

7 new cases for Australia and no deaths so the CMR is 3.160%..

No new cases and no deaths for NZ so CMR is 1.098% and active cases 73.

The UK had 33,552 cases yesterday and 1,348 deaths.

Just over 196k new cases in the USA yesterday and 3,917 deaths sees CMR up to 1.671%. Note that the USA is actually minus one day due to time differences.

Other notable points:
Global cases pass 99M, the last 1M in 2 days;
North America passes 29M cases;
South America passes 400k deaths;

Only -
UAE (3,566);
Malaysia (4,275); and
Portugal (15,333)

... recorded new daily highs; those in blue for the second consecutive day and those in red for a third or more consecutive day.

Doesn't really change anything, its transmissible profile is still the real issue.
I hope there is some science behind how they measure they "newer" strain being more transmissible?

Sounds a little Trump from Johnson to gloss over the fact they must be about the worst performing nation at the moment.

Something do with spike protein. The spikier, the easier it attaches to cells, the more transmissible. I also questioned earlier on whether this is actually more transmissible or whether it was just a deflection from the failure to respond properly.

The lady in Brisbane had the UK strain, was running around the public for 5 days without knowing, and yet did not pass it on to anyone except her close partner.....
