It's a GT in all but some body panels, interior bits and bobs etc. An XR8 with a 335 engine and R-spec suspension would have been the perfect basis for a GT. The GS motor could have gone into an XR8, GT to keep the 335... I would have been stoked. But alas, we will just have an XR... oh well!

Thumbs down Re: Last EVER Falcon Picture & Discussion Thread

Visually this last Falcon is a mashed Lancer & Mondeo
They may as well NOT BOTHER

This is clearly just my opinion but I hope the car is like mud flaps, they may be ugly but you can't see how bad they look from behind the steering wheel.

Trying to be positive? Hate to see your original post.

We get it, it does look like a Mondeo, that's the point, it is a transitional model to get us used to their global design language.

And I'm sick of hearing about the friggin Lancer comparison already!

The FG had to grow on me and now I love it.

But the more I look at this FGX the worse it looks.

The front is just inexcusably ugly. It is horrendous.

From every angle the front just doesn't look right. Whats with the top grille protruding?

Makes my decision to keep my GS very easy.

Unfortunately I agree. At first I thought it looked pretty good although not as tough as I had hoped. But the more I see of the car out and about im not so sure. The front just looks odd and the rear is to plain and blends in to much with everything else at the moment. I do like the rear valence and pipes though on the XR8 and the new headlights look great.

Compared in the flesh FG2 is a much better looker and FG was even better.

I think we need a complete side on shot to gauge the overhangs and front end "fit"
Long overhangs and undersized wheels always makes things look a little awkward.
I also think the blacked out grille on the XR makes it look better than the whale shark look of the higher series G6 models. Too much emphasis on the part of the car that really isn't its most endearing feature at the moment. I understand this big grille "truck" treatment on the Terri, but this sort of DNA on the falc will take a while to digest.

Looks like the interior is "slightly" modified, with the dash in general looking a tad different from the FG/FG MkII, as well as the storage compartment behind the gear shifter, with a sliding door. Not sold on it though.

I reckon we need to look at the actual cars in the flesh and get more used to it before we can make final judgements.

But it would need to be a good looker to be better than the 2010 FG that I've grown to love more and more over the four years I've had it.

That's the Territory interior. There is no "sliding door" in FGX.

Don't worry mate, it's a good looking car. It's the same people banging on about its looks as before. You can even see the same names that put a "thanks" underneath any post that bags the looks.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Mine is that it is a very good looking vehicle.

More pics up on the Facebook page. Still not sold on that colour, but I see so much potential with different colours and models.

Even the Brembo option on the FGX doesn't come close to the 6 spot fronts/4 spot rears avail. on the GT/GT-P's! Sure, hooking up on the 275's is gonna be heaps better but what happens when you come into a corner too hot and without the brakes to scrub off that speed..? The difference between saving it and losing it. That's the main performance difference between the two models IMO.

Looks near identical to SZ Territory with the tambour door and round vents.

Looking at it again ... it is definitely the Territory interior.
Side Mirror sail panels are the tall ones with the large Territory mirror in that shot.

I think that for the first time in a long time.. the xr6 will be the pick of the 6cyl models... swap out the stupid spoiler of course as they look ridiculous on any car IMO.

I would also bet that the xr8 will be the model to own in terms of long term value rise.

of course.. I will buy one.. as have had one new in every model since 2002 (don't blame me for the withdraw!!! ;-) )... and certainly any badge snob that has bought an import in-place of a perfectly reasonable AUS alternative has NO RIGHT to complain about a true recession here in 5-10 years. We will just have to suck it up.

Have been comparing to the 2 top grills on the Xr8 and new Mustang, which is set back further in than the falcon which makes it look better. Saw one of the new GTF's in Kinetic at car show today, looks good,I feel Ford have gone backwards in there styling compared to the BA /BF /FG, the headlights look good but lost the plot with the grill

That pic of the xr6 and rspec is fantastic, best comparison picture of the old and new we've had so far.

Same light, same conditions, same camera.

Shame it wasn't a vanilla FG because the RSpec just has the look the FGX cant beat I think (unless they did an FGX GT).

According to the FPV website, the current GT has "355 x 32mm cross-drilled and ventilated front rotors with Brembo 4-piston calipers and 328 x 26mm cross-drilled and ventilated rear rotors with single red piston caliper as standard" so the same brakes as a GT but in a much cheaper XR8!

So now we are comparing a top of the line FPV with an XR6? I love the FGX and even I'd take the r spec over the XR6.
