Thanks shav, very well explained.
If I was smart I would go the Trek or the Giant. If I follow my dreams I would get the Hardrock Think I might just be smart and go either the trek or the Roam 2. Although the Hardrock with it's disc brakes, and suspension, and is a cool looking mountain bike, i'm hardly ever going to go off road. The Hardrock is similar to my ute, over the top and never will get used to it's potential. The Roam 2 did have locking suspension and the guy was giving me a reduced price, I just didn't look at it much cos they didn't have an XL I hate decisions!

No worries Dan. You'll love what ever you buy as long as u use it to its potential. but they'll get u the size you need.

I can barely crack the tonne as it is in one ride. Another 61km in the same day will do my head in.

my training schedule does not allow for it, plus my back would not take it

I'm with you Blue, I did 100km on Saturday and I bonked with 20km to go.
I am semi interested in giving it a crack. Do 80km rest do another 80km, but 6+ hours in the seat for a silly challenge doesn't really add up in my mind. Especially since I only have 1 day off that weekend..

I thought that was bad enough but to have to do another 40kms on top of that! No thanks! Besides, I haven't been back on the bike since that ride yet. I think my rear end has rested enough now. I should make the effort to get out soon.

I agree blue, it would definitely help having people to dossard to conserve energy.
Yeah that was a big effort Doofey!! I was lucky enough that I felt perfect the next day, back to normal riding straight away no issue so was pretty stoked with that.

I picked up a second hand Pro Logo Scratch Ti 1.4 saddle with minimal ks for $30 today. Pick it up tomorrow. Hoping it will provide a bit more comfort over the factory concept saddle the bike came with.
Can anyone speak for Pro Logo saddles? I also bought it coz it made the bike look better too

they are the worse saddles anyone can use, probably why the last guy got rid of it!
seriously though, I have no idea but what I do know is we all have different shape bums and sit bones, you may need to try a few saddles before finding what is best for you. When trying different saddles make sure you measure the heights the get the same length, but also try different angles etc as 1 degree up or down may make it feel totally different and give it a few rides to make sure, not just a once around the block. I tried a few different saddles from a bike shop, took my tools with me and would make adjustments out on the road to ensure it was giving them a fair chance.

thanks Mick. I know it will be trial and error, but I thought Id give it a shot for $30 and see what happens. With my current Concept saddle, I have a 1deg downward rake as I find that is more comfortable than a 0deg plane.
My current saddle is this one: http://www.adelaidecyclists.com/phot...context=latest

I have prologo zero(maybe its gel?), I dont find it that bad! but yes padding is minimal.
There better you get ,you find yourself creeping foreward on the seat with more stamp on the pedals, barely touching the seat at all. My bum gives out before my legs so i have also found a nice soft saddle, i see padded jocks on ebay lol and often thought about a double chamois lol.. |

Ive done some research on the saddle itself and they say it doesnt suit those with wide hips. Im asian and small in stature so Im hoping this will be no worse than the concept saddle I currently have. In fact the concept saddle I have now can feel like Im sitting on a pallet of bricks on the middle of my cheeks after 3+ hours. (sorry for graphic description)
I also can handle 5 hours in the saddle ok as it is. Find that my butt will give out the same time the rest of my body does. Actually my lower back is more prone to fatigue on a long ride than anything else. Time will tell.

I only picked it up this afternoon, Only taken it for a spin around the block to test seating position. also put my bike computer and lights from the old bike onto this one. Really keen to take it for a longer ride, but i'm sweating just sitting here at my computer. will go a bit later.
Just from my little ride found it quite easy to sit a few k's faster then usual, could be due to excitment of having a new bike though haha

Just took it for a run, I am very impressed with this bike, Did my usual 20k ride and did it in 50mins ish. a good 10 mins quicker then my old bike, and this was with rest stops, I was pushing a bit harder then usual.
Quite happy

I made my January target (just) but have gone downhill since.
I haven't been able to ride for the last 2 weeks and go back into hospital this Thursday so it could be another few weeks depending on how things turn out - which means I'll have to start all over again! No worries though, I'll do it!!!!! |

I missed this post earlier Sprint. How did you go with it? I've only ridden it twice, once for the hell of it and the other in the TDU in 2012. It's a hell of a ride and it's only 4kms from my house

Sensational work Mick. Id be pretty stocked with those figures myself.
Dan, nice job getting a PB on your regular route. Could be the new bike, excitement and adrenaline all rolled into one. Went for a 60km ride in 41deg heat yesterday. Yeah I know, it was stupid, but I hadn't been out all week and wanted to go for a spin with a few mates. Didnt push too hard due to the heat, went thru water bottles about 4 times and still skulled a powerade and an ice cold bottle of 'pump' water at a bakery before riding home.

That's some serious Km For the week Ratter.
I've just purchased myself a Cannondale CAAD8 105, after looking at a giant Defy 3 I'm very happy with this bike. I used to ride downhill bikes and hardtails doing a lot of single tracks and dirt jumps. I've just started riding during the week 40km after work everynight is a nice workout at this stage.

Nice bike BLKPHN. Im starting to like the matte black stealth look on bikes of late. Seen a similar bike to yours on BNA forums recently with carbon wheels and it had me
Keep up the riding regime.
