We do have quite a few cross border cars and trucks with various plate combo's from wrong era's to the make. My panel van has had 4 different plates on it just since I bought it.

1980 I was working for a Hawthorn based Hydraulic company, working to and from Barry’s Beach (near Sale) on oil rig supply vessels… Complained about the old Toyota van (Hiace?) not being up to it. They bought me a brand spanker L300 similar to that pic! 1.6 litres of highway wandering puss!… Was probably the most dangerous pos I’ve ever driven…

The 3.9 MPI 5 speed was a pretty good thing. 15.8 quarter mile would match an XE ESP 351. My old man wound one off the clock coming back from Broady one day, in a pre-production model.
Nowhere near the desirability though. The 3.2 was an absolute dead duck. Didn't they only sell like 300 of them? From what I recall the 3.9 was such a cheap option that it made the 3.2 essentially worthless. $50 or something? Maybe $100? It was so cheap that it's surprising anyone got the 3.2. |

800 3.2s, all would have been fleet purchases I suspect.
Only made in 1988.

Another test had the MPI 5 speed Spac sedan quicker than a VL turbo. Top speed and acceleratation. I think the VL topped out at 210kmh EA did 225kmh

Today: Alfa Romeo 164, Vic green and white plates full reg. starting with an 'E' so it was probably about a 1990 model; Crossfire; Proton Jumbuck ute in car yard, with 206,000 klms for $6,490 (I saw one being driven a few days ago); Triumph TR7 on club plates; 1996-97 Astra hatch the other day; and a Mitsubishi coupe/hardtop in a car port as I drove past - will have to go back and have a closer look to see exactly what it is (the dust layer over it suggests that it doesn't move and will be there when I go back ... )

Not an older car I know, but with only a couple of dealers across the country, seeing a Genesis on the road is pretty rare. Especially in a small country town two hours away from the closest dealer.

Wouldn't surprise me - RB30ET only has a 7.8:1 compression ratio because of our absolute potato unleaded fuel at the time

I drove out to Charters Towers (North Qld) yesterday to pick up a motorcycle. The chap I bought it from, also had an original cream coloured Datsun 180B in the carport. The car was on full rego and made for an interesting story.
He was telling me that it belonged to his elderly neighbour. Obviously he and his wife had a close relationship with the neighbour, as tends to be the case in country towns. The elderly man passed away fairly recently and left the car to the couple in his will. He was telling me that his wife drives it out to the cemetery each weekend and thanks the old gent for his kind gesture. The car is completely as it was when the late owner last drove it. His old hat still sits on the passenger side front seat. |

As most of us know, the EA was a much maligned car, but I gotta say, it would be one of the better cars that we owned. |

Out finally delivering the stone I had stuck on the truck for days, down a muddy dirt road out the back of Bobbinawarrah and spot a dusty XE S pac sticking out the back of an old farmhouse carport.
Heading back I see a couple of single drive's a Inter Sline and a LN8000 Louisville in Brown Brothers winery loading up. Finished up having a great brekky at the Cheese factory. Milawa. PS. so much for having a clean detailed truck yesterday !
