If anyone needs hints and tips on how to deal with harsh lock downs, come to a Victorian, or more specifically, a metro melbournian . Happy to help.

Also heard a medical expert say that adverse long term effects usually show up within the first 6 months, so we can see how the UKnians are doing. I'm more worried about those who are over 65, which includes my folks. Germany is saying no to applying Astrazeneca to over 65s, but most others are saying its ok. In China, the elderly and children are not included in the vaccine roll out plan, this is for both their local vaccine as well as non local vaccine. "trials" have only been given to healthy people so there is insufficient data on the elderly and those already with health complications. |

It's been a little while since we looked at which countries have been struggling this last few weeks.
The numbers below look at cases per 100k of total population over the last 14 days. North America: USA 689 and Panama 454. Only Mexico and El Salvador peaked during the last 14 days. Europe: Portugal 1,617; Spain 997; Montenegro 995; Czechia 881; Slovenia 827; UK and Latvia both 568 and Estonia 536. Only Portugal and Spain reached a peak in the last 14 days. South America: Colombia 345; Brazil 334 and Chile 298. Only Bolivia reached a peak during the last 14 days. Africa: Tunisia 228; Cabo Verde 182; South Africa 172 and Libya 145. Ghana, Nigeria, Mozambique and the Ivory Coast all reached a peak during the last 14 days.

In a release tonight Vic Health announced that a Hotel Worker had tested positive to Woo Flu.
Looks like Melbourne may be locked up again, if the Govt there is true to form.

So from WA, isn't it 'poor' that we still fall over on lessons learned from other states. SOS, now the WA govt says now the guards outside the door must wear PPE !

No lockdown. Masks mandatory in public indoor spaces, house limit reduced from 30 to 15, and lifting the return to work cap paused. Effective 11:59pm tonight.

Got it from Aus Open hotel. Last day of work on the 29th tested negative. Subsequently felt ill and tested positive on 2nd Feb. Attended a CFA function in the mean time. Sutton just mentioned that his test result showed HIGH viral load, so it is likely close contacts will have it
Surprised no snap lockdown. |

I hope they try and manage it rather than a lock down. Let's turn off a city for 5 days is pretty dramatic.
I think they have their processes down now to stay on top.

Data valid as at 00:00 GMT February 3rd, 2021.
Note: As not all Australian States report at the same time, the data below is based on the previous full day reporting. 5 new cases for Australia and no deaths so the CMR is 3.153%. 1 new case and no deaths for NZ so CMR is 1.083% and active cases 61. The UK had 19,202 cases yesterday and 1,322 deaths. Just over 121.5k new cases in the USA yesterday and 3,707 deaths sees CMR up to 1.694%. Note that the USA is actually minus one day due to time differences. Other notable points: North America passes 31M cases. Only: Albania (1,007); and UAE (3,977) ... recorded new daily highs; those in blue for the second consecutive day and those in red for a third or more consecutive day. The global adult CMR sits at 2.17% but that is likely understated given the inaccuracies in mortalities for countries like India and Russia. Amongst the countries we watch in detail; Brazil (2.437%), the UK (2.824%), Belgium (2.968%), Australia (3.153%), Italy (3.476%) and Peru (3.586%) are all above the average while New Zealand (1.083%), India (1.434%), the USA (1.701%), Switzerland (1.732%) and Russia (1,914%) are all below the average although there are big question marks over the figures for both India and Russia. It's widely reported that the real Russian figure is understated by about 130k, making the real figure close to 200k deaths rather than the 'official' 74k figure and this would make their adult CMR over 5%.

Jumped? Pfft!
If I’m going to catch it, I expect that virus to dance like Sylvie Guillem, to sell me on the idea of being sick. Or possibly the virus and I will duet like Torvill and Dean. |

Lost for words.
Victorian government screws up once again. Of all the things that got cancelled last year they let in a swarm of idiots from hot zones all over the world to play a stupid game noone cares about. What is the point of quarantine if the people supposed to be isolated are still having contact with others? Any normal person with half a brain could seemingly do a better job of running the state than 10,000 government employees can. Jesus christ... Hope they make them wear masks while hitting the stupid ball back and forth. |
