Actually consensus is that there is a link, but the number of cases is not great enough to justify halting the jab. They found that it is affecting women, under 50s, who otherwise are not usually at risk of blood clots. That is going to be a problem for us, as the anti vaxers in Australia are mostly women in their 40s (according to ABC), hence why Mr Hunt got Julia Gillard to take the shot with him as she speaks to that group...apparently.

Interesting the US has not approved the AZ jab. They have 30m doses sitting in their cupboard ready to go.

France now only jabbing over 55s.

There's consensus that there's an "association", there's been no scientifically proven "link" established.

Hate to say it but it's pfizer or none for me. I'm not even an anti-vaxer but there's been enough controversy about the astrazeneca vaccine for me to not only not want it, but now refuse to have it.
Given we can't actually choose which shot we get and the pfizer doses are being restricted to our most vulnerable, I'm not liking my chances of being able to get a hold of one/two. :(

It may be grain of sand in the grand scheme of things, but we all must stop buying Chinese made products. Anything and everything made in China. Stop buying **** made by these parasites. Everytime you go to buy something the first question should be 'where was this made?'. Buy Australian made where possible. We need to support OUR people, OUR economy and OUR industries.
Buy Australian! well not much choice in that department since this country manufactures SFA for most common goods used by people.

What's your problem with astrazeneca, do you know something more than the medical experts or do you have poor health ? Do you have low blood platelets ?

LOL, you all think of me as a lefty socialist but let me tell you I haven't bought anything from China for 12 months. No one cared, MG doing well, many on the right still getting what they want at the best price because let me tell you if you do it for real beleifs, no one else cares and only you suffer.

Anyway, my 12 months solo was up a couple of days ago, the straw that broke the camels back was my kids school needing a cheap calculator and they're all made in china.
stuff it, may as well buy that coffee press that the manufacturer decided to make in china, I really need one, been doing without and drinking plastic tainted one for months, may as well get that hand grinder - will come in handy if I have to live in my car. Same for the headphones and ear buds I've wanted for months and gone without, same for a couple of files and picks, scribes etc I've wanted for months. I put them off hoping my situation would improve and I could buy elsewhere, but it hasn't and no one cared but me anyway LOL. I just blew $200 on chinese stuff - the first chinese stuff I had bought in the past 12 months - because no-one else cared or was doing without so why bother?
There's not often an aussie option so why do people like you go on about it? Manufacturers choose to make in China. For some things you can have other options (biggest luxury item I bought last year was mini spray guns for example and I paid more for Italian ones over cheap chinese, or some tools where I bought from Taiwan over china LOL). But I can't do that any more as I'm unemployable with a bad back, knees, eczema and back on the old dole rate now.

Maybe so but there is other choices available made in countries that have a better track record dealing with their citizens and trade fairly with Oz.

Example recently at Spotlight. Most thing in this s**thole big box store are Made in China but if you look closer, there are well made towels, sheets etc made in India etc.
Sick of hearing this, everything in Made in China cop out, open your bl**dy eyes and read the labels or packaging first, if the store turns out to be all Chinese crap don't shop there or don't complain about China's foreign policies.

It would be great if everything was made here but it isn't, but not everything comes from China either accept Pandemics.

It's a bit more complicated than that. Australian grown cotton goes mostly to China; India takes some but also grow a lot of their own. So to be sure of supporting Aussie farmers do we buy the Chinese sheets and towels? Same with steel, Chinese steel is mostly Aussie iron ore, anything from elsewhere may not be. Are cars made in Thailand (Ranger?) made with Chinese steel and electronics?

We've been aware of how the Chinese govt treats its own people since the Tiananmen Square incident in '89 maybe longer. But its taken the virus to get us to decide to do something about it? I don't have an issue with action against China, I just think most people are unaware of the cost.

Data valid as at 00:00 GMT March 20th, 2021.

Note: As not all Australian States report at the same time, the data below is based on the previous full day reporting.

10 new cases for Australia and no deaths so the CMR is 3.114%.

No new cases and 0 deaths for NZ so CMR is 1.064% and active cases 55.

The UK had a higher 5,587 cases yesterday and 96 deaths.

Just under 66.5k new cases in the USA yesterday and 1,303 deaths sees CMR at 1.821%. Note that the USA is actually minus one day due to time differences.

Other notable points: (weekend reporting)
Global cases pass 123M, the last 1M in 2 days;
North America passes 35M cases;

PNG (311);
Curaçao (163);
Philippines (7,999); and
Hungary (11,132)

... recorded new daily highs; those in blue for the second consecutive day and those in red for a third or more consecutive day.

Belgium and Venezuela move above the 90th percentile for their 10 day average and Denmark drops below.

Folks just received an update from their private GP. The GP is getting 50 doses a week starting end of April. They have 700 patients on their register. So thats 14 weeks to roll out the first dose.

They also advised that shared clinics, where there are 15-20 doctors sharing a practice, are also getting just 50 a week, so people that go to those practices are going to have a very hard time booking an appointment, so there is going to be little value in "shopping" around.

Good news is, if you have concerns with the vaccine, the gov have allocated funding for GPs to discuss it with their patients, but it must be done seperate to the vaccination appointment.

I know there are other cheap alternatives such as India and so on, my remark was there is SFA in purchasing AUSTRALIAN MADE PRODUCTS.
What everyone buys is their own choice as I particularly don't care!
I hope I made myself clear with this comment.

I fall in the phase 1B group and to be quite honest with the amount of doses available I will wait patiently as I don't see the need to rush in, my doctor will ring me when it is time and most likely after when I get my flu shot which I expect will come first.

Cheers.

Agree, there really isn't any rush. Only benefit is if there is a outbreak, then those that have had the shot will be better protected. Its not like you will be able to travel sooner than anyone else, or be exempted from current restrictions.

Ah yes, the flu shot topic also came up. Flu shot and vaccine has to be 2 weeks apart.

AstraZeneca says US trial data shows vaccine 79 per cent effective

Quote:
The US study comprised 30,000 volunteers, 20,000 of whom were given the vaccine while the rest got dummy shots. The results were announced Monday.
In a statement, AstraZeneca said its COVID-19 vaccine had a 79 per cent efficacy rate at preventing symptomatic COVID and was 100 per cent effective in stopping severe disease and hospitalisation.

Investigators said the vaccine was effective across all ages, including older people — which previous studies in other countries had failed to establish.

I don't think I've ever belittled someone for not wanting the vaccine but I'm happy to admit I'm wrong if you can point out where I have done so?

Definitely been up on the soapbox telling everyone to think about the frail and vulnerable in our community, how businesses should close for the greater good, that we should listen to the medical advice.

But now if you don't get your chosen vaccine that has been cleared by the highest medical advice in this country you will happily go about your business putting those same vulnerable people at risk.

Just for the record I am ok with your choice, it just doesn't sit well after all of the "advice" you gave everyone previously.

Well yeah, but that's not belittling anyone. Back then people were saying they should be allowed to do as they please as other people aren't their responsibility. They should be allowed to freely go and do as their like because they confident in their own health and aren't concerned if they infect others. I am pretty sure I didn't belittle anyone about it.

No, I'm going to keep pushing for the pfizer vaccine. I don't want the astrazeneca one, I want the RNA technology and somehow I'll find a way to get one. I'm not going to go unvaccinated, **** that.

By "advice" you mean my opinion? Which I'm allowed to give as much as anyone else is. It's a forum, you're going to see opinions that don't align with yours. To be honest it seems like people just take issue that I 'dare' give an opinion that differs to their own. Any time a man feels that I've disagreed with them... it's belittling, is it?

Yes it is a forum, so people will have different opinions. You call out/disagree/discuss with people all the time, that is ok. When people do it to you you have started to pull out the gender card. Please don't continually bring up gender when people have differing opinions. You are doing the vast majority of men here a disservice by implying that we are a misogynistic bunch. I wouldn't know if you are a female behind that user name or a guy in car finance, and it does not change anything for me.

I take issue with being told I belittled someone when I'm fairly sure all I had was a different opinion. When I see other people talk and debate each other with opposing views quite civilly... but then when I have an opposing view I'm told that I was belittling them.. the only variable I see that can have an influence is gender.

Just to clarify for anyone who bothers to read my posts... feel free to call me out on anything you see fit... I just ask that you please do it the same way you'd do it when speaking to others. I'm not a little lady, I'm not likely to act in a manner that some of you may think women should act but there's also no need to sugar coat anything. As tweeked says for all you know I'm actually a dude sitting naked in my basement.

All that aside, if anyone still thinks I did actually belittle someone else about getting vaccinated please point it out, I'm happy to admit when I'm wrong.

Data valid as at 00:00 GMT March 22nd, 2021.

Note: As not all Australian States report at the same time, the data below is based on the previous full day reporting.

9 new cases for Australia and no deaths so the CMR is 3.112%.

9 new cases and 0 deaths for NZ so CMR is 1.056% and active cases 62.

The UK had a higher 5,342 cases yesterday and 17 deaths.

Just under 49k new cases in the USA yesterday and 450 deaths sees CMR at 1.819%. Note that the USA is actually minus one day due to time differences.

Other notable points:
Global cases pass 124M, the last 1M in 2 days;
Asia passes 27M cases;
Brazil passes 12M cases;

Mongolia (210);
Uruguay (2,693) - 1,000 above the previous high; and
Philippines (8,019)

... recorded new daily highs; those in blue for the second consecutive day and those in red for a third or more consecutive day.

No countries move above the 90th percentile for their 10 day average while Montenegro and Honduras drop below.

Leesa u got to respect other people's decisions too mate. The fact u don't trust the vaccines given, is the very reason why others are wary, even if more than you.

You were calling people selfish so and so's for not wanting the vaccine. And they were this and that.

As a few people have replied. Deny it as much as you want, but clearly people here have long memories.
