Strava does a great job of logging all types of stats it compares against other people on segments that have been created. It is a great way of seeing how you're improving blah blah blah.

Ok this may be a little bit of bragging, depending on what others have achieved, but what is your highest Strava trophy haul on 1 ride?

I just tried out Strava on my longest ride yet. I was 500 metres short of doing 50km! I normally just do the 20 km ride to work, so this took a bit more effort. I found some pretty good bikeways, though!

another race, another podium, this time 2nd place, beaten to first by the guy I beat last week, so fairs fair I guess, very windy though out at sandown.
Might be my last race in E grade according to one of the officials

I would not believe all the data on strata. There is a hill near my place that is a challenge. The KOM has an avg speed of 48kph on. I call BS On that. Many cars would struggle to avg that pace.

Most people that ride an area can tell what is legit and what is not, you can report any dodgy ones and they may be removed

I would like to try some crit racing, I want to get some conditioning first, only been riding a road bike for 7 months.
What clubs did you recommend to sign up to, SKCC (St Kilda) and CCCC (Caulfield) are close to me.

doing great Mick. keep it up.
I used to be a bit anti strava mainly because of the rumors I heard of people getting bikes stolen when their profile was made public. Now that the security settings on Strava are more user friendly I use it now to track my progress as well as my friends. Yes it is more of a social website but its for cyclists and you all have something in common, which is cycling and actual real life cycling progress, rather than reading a stupid status update of diddly squat. Most of the files from other apps can be converted to Strava too so be sure you convert those files to carry over your previous riding history.

Most clubs you can purchase a 3 race licence, this allows you to have 3 races, get an opinion on whether it's for you or not before having to purchase a full licence. The Southern masters starting age is 30 and there is some quite old riders, but some have been racing all their lives and are quite good, over daylight savings they have criterium races at Sandown Raceway on a Thursday night and casey Fields on a Sunday Morning. CCCC use sandown on a Tuesday night and Glenvale on a Sunday. Southern Masters has grades from A grade down to G grade, most cyclists could be competitive in G grade as the group only goes as fast as the slowest rider until the bell lap.

Hey Sprint, were you in the bunch of riders going along Gomersal Road on Saturday morning? I saw a number of the Gawler Wheelers jerseys as I was heading down for Clipsal.

How's everyone's cycling going?
I recently upgraded to a Kuota Kebel. Carbon Frame with Ultegra groupset, SRAM cranks and I've put my Pro Lite Bracciano wheels on there. I'm pretty happy with it. 7.6KG without bottle or computer, feels nice..

i'm pretty happy with my progress. have clocked up nearly 2000km in about 4 months of riding. last ride with the adelaide southern suburbs guys i clocked up 110km (ave 24km/h) which also included a semi decent hill, similar in size to old willunga hill. being a social ride we went at our own pace but i felt i did it reasonably comfortably.
such is my confidence i aim to have a crack at old willunga hill in the morning. Quote:
are you happy with those rims? i've been looking around at rims a bit lately just to educate myself for future upgrading, and many think those rims represent pretty good value. |

picked up a 'new' bike last weekend. got it for a bargain price from a facebook group for under $100
supposedly a few years old and hardly used, someone bought it with good intentions and lost interest. i have ordered some proper shoes so i can ride it, and my brother has given the bike the once over and it has the tick of approval. all works fine and tyres hold air. would have been a good day for a ride today, but the bike is still at my brothers house and i don't have my shoes yet. and a quick question for peoples, does wearing all the lycra make a difference when riding? is it for comfort or for 'the look'?

when i started riding again in november i was adamant i wasn't going to join the lycra parade. i started wearing jerseys within weeks and now wear the full kit if i'm riding for more than about 20km. the knicks are a must (you can get shorts with padding if you don't want the lycra look) if you are doing any sort of distance. your butt will thank you. they clothing is designed to absorb your sweat and doesn't flap around in the breeze etc. also has handy pockets in the back for munchies, spare tube, wallet etc. |

Prydey, I think the Bracciano's are great! They've copped a fair bit from me and are still very true, light enough for what I want, look nice, so overall I'm very happy with them.
Is the clothing worth it? It depends on your riding. If you just plod around then I'd say just get padded shorts, or get bike shorts n wear shorts over the top. If you put in effort, then yes it definitely is. Much better to have clothing that doesn't flap around, get the sweat off you, feel nice and light etc.
