Sort of on thread.
I can get a couple of personalised number plates for the new XR8 I have on order (due 1st week in Dec, yippee).

They are XR 335 or MY 335.
I've never really been into personalised plates, but this is an opportunity to do some thing with what will probably be the only new car I ever buy.

What is the opinion of the learned gentlemen of the forum on personalised plates and the 2 mentioned above?

Just curious.

I would never buy Korean.

I was involved in a case where a Korean manufacturer of a certain automotive part did not do a recall despite a request from Australian company involved, saying product was defective and there was a safety concern. Some 2 weeks later accident and 2 blokes dead.

Very different corporate culture in Korea as compared to say anglo automotive companies - I for one will never buy their engineering and trust my life in their engineering and corporate culture.

And as far brand snobbery, I do not give a flying ****, what pulls me in is engineering- like all alloy quad valve/cam v8 with inverted supercharger with variable timing, brembo brakes.

But saying that, I could not get the previous F6 or GT Rspec styles as they were too larish, as I am in a conservative profession.

That's what has attracted me to this FG X XR8, the engine, brakes, suspension, AND fact that especially in smoke it will look like the poorer inbred cousin of an aston martin or a jag and I will not stand out like dogs balls in a more conservative environment.

They are not the only manufacturer to not want to do a full scale recall. Plenty more have been there done that.

I reckon the Koreans are starting to do it better than the Japanese. I've owned 3 Hyundais in the late 80's early 90's. All great cars and did the job just fine.

I agree, and would like to clarify that the manufacturer involved in that case I referred to was not Hyundai, and further I do not know what the corporate culture of Hyundai is.

However, based on the evidence of the corporate culture was of that Korean manufacturer in that matter I was involved in, I have never purchased their product EVER and never will.

Also, it is simple to see who are the good corporations in terms of engineering recalls, do a search on recalls Australia, amazing to see how some manufacturers of certain products never do recalls, yet others constantly do recalls, and curiously the ones that do the most recalls have the best reputation engineering wise - go figure.

Also to the OP about personalised numberplates, how about this

"SLOW 335"

How do you regard corporations that recall cars overseas, yet dont recall the exact same cars here? Toyota is guilty of this on many occasions.

If you're open to some other possibilities:

XR 8335
FGX 335
XR85OL
LA55TI (Last one)

YES. We get it as you have repeated yourself ad nauseum to the point of boredom for everyone else. Now, go away from this thread and find something else to talk about that you can talk about in a positive sense?

Cheers

Who would have thought, we are on a ford forum talking about the last Aussie falcon and today we have peanuts talking about Hyundai's and then this yanker comes out with this comment, amazing.

To me the new Falcon looks good and seeing as most of the XR8's are nearly sold then it would appear that the general public don't share your thoughts. Maybe it's time to move on mate.

You see some girls with like perfect plastic surgery faces, and its like boring. and sterile You see a girl with something a little strange, maybe the nose having a slight deviation, or line of cheekbone bit angular and a mole, and your eye is drawn to the face because it has personality.

The same with a car. The FG X XR8 to me has a blend of what is quite beautiful and what seems unusual, not quite perfect, but still nice unusual lines, that draws your eye to it.

I cannot wait to see it in the metal, I am sure it will look sensational. And any odd quirks like the front overhang will just add to it over time, think about an E type Jag, yes that front bonnet sure is proportional.

I've got no problem with the Hyundai Genisis being discussed in this FGX thread....
The Falcon is currently the 'large sedan' offering from Ford in Australia, so why is there
a drama in making a few comparisons or discussing features of the other 'large sedans', be
they Jap, American, Euro, Luxury or otherwise?

I think it makes the discussion more interesting if the comparative playing field
is extended a bit beyond the Commodore and simply whether one likes the FGX
bodywork or not.

The recent lack of new photos and any interesting info- say on the sync 2 features or how the fuel gains are made, is making this thread very much drag the chain IMHO.

From what I have read, the new ZF transmission for most of the range
is a lighter, Chinese made unit. The previous German made unit will carry
over from the FG2 for the T and the the XR8 cars only. Other gains are made
with aero according to Ford info.

Ford says a new ZF 6-speed automatic transmission, along with improved
aerodynamics, has resulted in reduced fuel consumption across and all
naturally aspirated six-cylinder Falcon models and the base Ecoboost,
compared to the outgoing FG MkII.

The more advanced 6HP21 ZF six-speed auto introduced with the FG MkII
Ecoboost models will now also be fitted to all naturally-aspirated six-cylinder
Falcon models - including EcoLPi.

The more aerodynamic FG X body shape has also contributed to improving
efficiency, along with the FG MkII EcoBoost models’ underbody aerodynamic
aids now being applied to all bar the XR8.

I can't believe some of the comments (and diversions) in this thread.

Isn't this a place for building on the Ford experience, and sharing knowledge & passion amongst like-minded enthusiasts?

Whatever happened to the passion for a new Aussie model - regardless of brand.
No wonder sales of Aussie cars have dropped to such dismal levels over the last decade. All the sheep are jumping on the Korean or the "it's ugly excuse" bandwagon. Lots more SUVs in showrooms today that look far worse than anything Ford Australia have ever produced.

Seems it's only a small minority of Falcon fans left who "get it" (and luckily quite a few have posted positive comments & tidbits of info in this thread).

We have got a 2008 i30 diesel for the shopping trips, a 2010 Santa Fe Highlander for the towing and work around the property. The new XR8 is our first ever Ford purchase. Look forward to finally getting a decent driver's car for going to church on Sunday followed by a blast through the countryside. We are keeping all 3 cars as they all have a specific role in our family transport needs. Like they say, the right tool for a specific job.

OK lets roll with this.

Hyundai Genesis

1. Bentley copy looks very good some angles others looks awkward.

2. Very nice looking interior but query ergonomics in real life.

3. Gutless, non effective performance.

4. Handling and real life dynamics in OZ will be barge like- weight????

FG X XR8

1. Mustang/Jaguar/Aston Martin fusion, some angles looks great, others awkward.

2. Average dated looking interior but good practical ergonomics especially placement of touch screen .

3. Miami supercharged- some 325 rwkw standard, easy 450 rwkw with external mods including intercooler-essentially supercar horsepower performance with some $9,000 odd in external mods.....

4. Handling with r spec suspension and brembos will be great.

Know where I would put my money, oh yes, I have already, cannot wait to downshift that Miami using the manual box and hear that feral barking popping which will be somewhat incongruous with its reasonably conservative exterior, especially in smoke.

All you Hyundai guys go and spend your $70,000 on the Genesis, softness and padded comfort and toy digital atomic clocks are very important I know, I will wave to you saluting your choice as I downshift and smoke you out...

For practical I already have a Honda Civic turbo diesel for the runabout fuel sipping tasks.....

Yes- you are right as I was not sufficiently specific and was musing in my mind the power aspect, and I have added "horsepower" to my previous comment to give it context.

Let me clarify, for the easy $9,000 mods you will have the power of a lot of supercars.

Not the brakes, suspension, chassis, low designed weight, electronic wizardry and fancy dsg gearboxes, electrical power boost packs etc.

But- it is in keeping with old school ford, massively overpowered overwhelming the brakes and chassis.

Certainly keeps it interesting, unlike for instance a Porsche Boxster S I have driven where the power was not up to snuff with the chassis and brakes and after a few hard runs you are like ho hum
