Now it has turned full circle and yet we still hear and read how great the Commodore is as an overall package and this in todays standards makes it the winner.....but not back then. |

Way I look at it, when my brother was looking to buy a fast rear drive sedan as a sports car to have some fun with from time to time, and he drove an M3, a Clubsport, an AMG C45, and then a AMG C63, I just said- forget about this spec and this fuel consump, and this and this- simply-what gives you the biggest grin from ear to ear after a 5 minute blast- he immediately went AMG C63 without any further deliberation. Me- I love the high tech "teutonic" multi valve 4 overhead cam forced blown sound, do not like that muddy woofy veiled holden pushrod 2 valve per cylinder v8 sound-so worrying about what some journo thinks is as relevant to me as tits on a bull- I just want that Miami ferral high tech sound mated to a manual with good brakes and a good suspension and all will be good with my smile.... I saw an XR50 falcon parked near home today, a blue one, as I was coming towards it at first glance I thought it might be a new Mondeo, then I realized it was a Falcon, the pics don't do it justice, it looks nice .

Well for me an xr8 would be awesome. I love the look of the fgx and the interior looks fine to me. Can't afford one till 2016 though soo I'll be pretty lucky to get one by the sound of things.
Oh and no other brand even registers in my brain. No other brand makes my heart race at the sight . **** hyundi.

I think you're absolutely right about the 375 kW+ on the XR8, but so far I've only seen one published 335 kW S/C road test where the times (in my view) have reflected a true 375 kW+ performance. That was the WHEELS test where I believe Jesse Taylor (now editor of EVO AUSTRALIA) got an RSpec down the 400 metre strip in 12.6 seconds with a 0-100 kmh time of 4.5 seconds. Other test times I've seen have been quite a bit slower. The temporary overboost feature makes the engine very potent in everyday driving, but I think that if it's worked too hard (without cool down runs) before nailing a good launch, then the overboost (or very little of it) will be available to post a good time. If this happens in the upcoming tests then I'm thinking that we may not see what the XR8 can really achieve and I believe it's similar with the standard Turbo. In the October 2014 issue of MOTOR Magazine an XR6 Turbo Auto was tested and they made the following comments about it's speed:- "the XR6T feels like a rocket on wheels" and "Holy crap it's fast" So I'm thinking they must have been extremely impressed by it's straight line performance, but to me the published acceleration data for the car doesn't reflect this level of performance. I say that because in cool 16 degree air at Heathcote the published data shows the 400 metre end speed to be 172.35 kmh and the time from 70 - 180 kmh (where wheelspin wouldn't be an issue) works out to 11.50 seconds. By contrast my own standard and untuned FG XR6T Auto managed a considerable 7kmh+ higher 400 metre end speed at WSID in 18-19 degree air. Also the best time from 70 to 180 kmh was 9.81 seconds (with dragstrip timeslips of 12.731 and 12.509 seconds). So I've got no doubt that my car's overboost function was working, but I'm thinking that probably wouldn't have been the case with the MOTOR test car. I'll be interested to see future test times of both XR8's and Turbo's and hope to see some good numbers, but I'm not expecting too much. Last edited by 2242100; 12-11-2014 at 09:15 PM. |

That interior, just doesn't do the exterior any justice. It looks so dated, something from early 00's.

So is the B series, and truthfully the pic above of the FG-X interior doesn't reflect a near decade in advancement.

Yeah FGX needs more chrome, half a dozen different fabrics and textures, fake stitching and more buttons to make the interior look modern.

The FG I believe had one of the best laid out dashes ever fitted to a falcon. I was somewhat relieved that they retained it in the new falcon. It could have been another AU horror story and gone backwards. I remember sitting in my shiny new BF thinking how good is the interior now when I go from my FG to my BF I'm like OMG this is terrible.....that's just life unfortunately some will like it others will not!
