Can't lose? You mean can't win. Shut down, they get slagged to high hell as they are now, and massive hit to the economy. No shut down, it spreads, "oh they are murderers". I don't think they are coming out smelling like roses out of this one. Votes are going out the door.

Also, we keep praising ourselves for how well we have handled the pandemic in comparison with other countries, yet we keep criticising the way we respond when there is a leak.

Would like to see some stats on that but I CBF fact checking myself either, but, sure greater Melbourne is dense but so its outer sydney and they had localized lockdowns and didnt stop the whole state.

This situation will not going away from a long long time, so is this how we will react for a handful of cases?

The ONLY reason Australia is not like the rest of the world is because of that ocean around us. I would guarantee if we were closer to the rest we would be screwed...we are not special or better we are just luckier due to location.

I DGAF about any state, or have no allegiance to a party, but good old NSW isnt as sharp as they think either..why?

I caught the last plane out of Melb Friday morning 0630, all *3* of us on the QANTAS flight (thanks QANTAS, that must of cost you a shedload)...

All I did was my online border permit and guess what...free to wander where ever the hell I like. The only "check" from anyone was a CV officer in Sydney who checked my phone so briefly that it could have been a pornhub membership acceptance green tick...or anything else..they barely checked it.

Since then I, off my own bat;

Got a CV test once I got back to Tamworth
Self Isolated
Got negative test yesterday
Will get another test done tomorrow

NOT ONCE did NSW heath contact me about what I should be doing..I checked online and just followed that.

So how is it that I travel from a "hot zone" and the only check I get is a BS online form that I could have fudged anyway.

No temp checks, no checks or follow ups to see what I was planning etc

Now I have another 12 days at home (potentially infecting my family and my inlaws who are here for 2 weeks..LOL) and again no one is checking. We will monitor everyone but they are all out and about free as a bird and I confirmed this with NSW health hotline, they dont have to test or isolate unless symptoms present .

So I am thankful NSW has some flexibility...but this whole thing is as loose as goose and its only sheer luck it has not got a decent hold in the community.

But to stop a person mowing someone's lawn, who is by them selves and no contact with anyone due to a couple of cases in a CBD is reckless and will ruin people...it has to stop.

Also need to ease up on the political BS here, they are all a bunch of retards and I dont know what to do with that but to sit and see them take the easy route and not have a bit of a think about how else we can manage it is appalling, they get paid to much to do otherwise...a bunch of work experience kids could do the same right now.

Cases have been recorded in regional VIC, including Bendigo, and a positive case that attended a sporting event at Cohuna. The event at Cohuna was of particular interest as there were hundreds in attendance from all over Victoria, and also some NSW teams/residents.

I think VIC should extend the lockdown to 14 days. This is not looking good, particularly if the Chadstone site gets more cases. As they did last time.

9 new cases for Australia and no deaths so the CMR is 3.025%.

No cases and no deaths for NZ so CMR is 0.974% and active cases 21.

The UK had a lower 3,240 cases yesterday and 7 deaths.

Just under 23k new cases in the USA yesterday and 736 deaths sees CMR at 1.790%. Note that the USA is actually minus one day due to time differences.

Other notable points: (weekend reporting)
Global deaths drop below the 90th percentile for the last 10 days;

Bhutan (100);
Bahrain (3,273); and
Malaysia (9,020);

... recorded new daily highs; those in blue for the second consecutive day and those in red for a third or more consecutive day.

No countries move above the 90th percentile for their 10 day average while Greece drops below.

Vietnam was considered a shining example to the other Asian countries.

Now they have a spike of a mutant strain that has gotten out of hand.

Singapore was considered our next bubble. Was looking forward to going. Probably not going to happen for a while now.

Comparing previous lockdowns with the current VIC lockdown is just.. well, idiotic. VIC is currently dealing with a strain of virus that is said to be 3-4 times more infectious than the original CV-19 strain.

For example, where previously someone who was infectious, went home to a family of say 5 people, one person out of the 5 would test positive 5-8 days later on average. With the current strain, someone who was infectious, who goes home to a family of 5 people, EVERYONE in the household is testing positive, and within 24 HOURS! Even pre school aged kids!

We are now dealing with something that is much, much worse. Trying to compare what NSW did, or any other state did previously is just foolish.

Experts believe B.1.617 could be more infectious than previous variants, based on how rapidly it is spreading in other countries.

"Preliminary reports from the UK, where B.1.617.2 is surging in some parts of the country, suggest it is 50 per cent more contagious than the UK variant B.1.1.7, which is already 50-100 per cent more contagious than the 'regular' strain," infectious diseases expert Raina MacIntyre said.

We don't know whether this variant is more deadly or causes worse disease than other versions of the virus.

I remember last snap lock down there were a lot of "experts" guaranteeing an extension. Even right up to day 5.

The snap lock downs are to buy some time to catch all the contacts, not to eliminate the virus.

If they can actually get in touch with all the close contacts and isolate them, and enough people keep getting tested, 7 should be enough. A couple of mystery cases will screw us over.

Malaysia is quickly becoming FUBARED. No one listened to the restrictions previously put in place, religious gatherings were happening, shopping malls were full, gov did feck all about it, and ramadan made it 10 times worse.

And the rules were bent for him AND his wife to travel to NZ. The PM has been in Melbourne in the last 14 days. No one else is allowed to travel to NZ if they've been in Melbourne in the last 14 days.

No doubt the meeting with JA will last a few minutes, while sightseeing and "diplomatic visits" to other parts of NZ will be take up the rest of their stay. Wonder if the skiing gear was packed as part of the meeting? Hmmm..

Malaysia is copping a hammering. Their long-term 90th percentile is ~3,400 cases / day but they have been over that figure every day since May 5th with each of the most recent five days each setting a new daily high. Their 10 day average is currently is just over 7,300 cases / day with yesterday over 9,000. Population wise their 14 day total is running at 285 cases per 100k of population.

I've not looked at Singapore for awhile.
