Data valid as at 00:00 GMT June 1st, 2021.

Note: As not all Australian States report at the same time, the data below is based on the previous full day reporting.

13 new cases for Australia and no deaths so the CMR is 3.021%.

No cases and no deaths for NZ so CMR is 0.973% and active cases 13.

The UK had a lower 3,099 cases yesterday and only NO deaths, the first day without any since August last year.

Just over 15k new cases in the USA yesterday and 479 deaths sees CMR at 1.788%.

Other notable points:

Asia drops below the 10 day 90th percentile;

Haiti (478); and
Colombia (25,866)

... recorded new daily highs; those in blue for the second consecutive day and those in red for a third or more consecutive day.

No countries move above the 90th percentile for their 10 day average and none drop below.

Yep, not looking good for the lockdown ending tomorrow night. Call from the ABC is that the lockdown will continue for another 7 days, including regional areas, although regional areas may have some relaxed restrictions. We'll find out when the press conference happens at 12.

It's absolutely insane that regional areas, with zero cases, are lumped in with the complete basket case that is melbourne. Dan's cronies are happy to destroy the whole states economy and send business's to the wall, just because they can't look any further than Melbourne.

The police are implying it's too hard to set up the ring of steel, and requires too many resources. Who cares. Just get it done ffs.

You've fallen for the same trap that a lot of the media do: Victoria is NOT Melbourne!

Even the heading says the restrictions have been eased (quite significantly, btw) for regional Viccos.

I assume this will flow through into your figures tomorrow, Russ?
If it flows into my source data then yes but it hasn't as of this morning.

That would make their CMR almost the worst of the not tiny countries at 9.244% but not quite as bad as Mexico which has a CMR of 9.25%. It also takes their mortalities/100k to 548, well ahead of even Hungary which is 304/100k with a 3.64% CMR.

The only other reasonably sized country with a higher CMR is Yemen but it is also clear that they have grossly understated the case numbers (6,751) because if that is correct then their 1,322 deaths is almost one in very five.

Trap-shmap - I just report it. What, am I responsible for the content now?

EDIT - Oh I see, the story was updated after I linked to it this morning. heading now reads "Melbourne's lockdown extended for another week, restrictions to ease in regional Victoria".

That's not cricket!

No ring of steel either. Telling melbournians not to travel into regional areas is going to work well

I'll bet the toffs with their holiday homes down the coast are packing their cars as we speak, and preparing to spread it into regional areas. Just stay where you are you knobs.

I like what they have done here, no costly roadblocks that anyone with a navman can sneak around.

Proof of address for anyone purchasing anything in regional Vic. Would hate to have been away for 3 weeks though!!

I took it as a joke. Perhaps you didn't receive it that way, but I'm sure there was no malice intended.

Dan is the reason this whole state continually gets locked down, due to all the incompetent people in his government.

Why is it only Victoria continually getting locked down? They never learn from all their previous screw ups, and no one is ever held accountable.

He hasn't been seen for months and its still his fault for this lock down

This is hotel leak number 21 nationally. All states have had some form of lock down. Why aren't you directing your anger at the origin of the leak, AFTER they were told of the risk? And that SOB who ran around for 12 days whilst symptomatic? Can't always blame the gov for people's stupidity and selfishness.

Anyway, this fleeting transmission is bs. 45,000 tests and only 6 cases, with 4 being from the same family. If this continues I don't think we'll see out the 7 days. But the easing will be very slow, we may need to don the mask for quite some time.

BTW, did anyone catch the journo asking this morning "There is a rumour going around Liberal MPs that this leak came from a Victoria hotel leak, not SA, is that true?" FML. Some people just WANT it to be true.

Collingwood AFL players could infect the football!?

South Australia’s Chief Public Health Officer Nicola Spurrier has encouraged supporters at the Collingwood v Adelaide game in Adelaide on Saturday to avoid touching the ball or the players.

Professor Spurrier said the COVID-19 risk was negligible as the Magpies were already in quarantine at home in Melbourne along with their families or housemates.

“We’re looking at the seating at the moment and of course we’re looking at the ball, because sometimes the ball, not that I’ve been to many football games, but I have noticed occasionally it does get kicked into the crowd,” Professor Spurrier said.

“We are working through the details of what that will mean.

“If you are at Adelaide Oval and the ball comes towards you. My advice to you is to duck and just do not touch that ball.”

Coronavirus Australia: Foley unmasked as he throws SA under the bus

Quote:
Donald Trump, stand aside. Short of donning a red baseball cap and promising to Make Victoria Great Again, Victorian Health Minister Martin Foley could not have been any less subtle on Tuesday as he repeatedly blamed “the South Australian outbreak” for Victoria’s woes.

Apeing Trump’s “China virus” stylings, Foley might as well have ended his press conference announcing the construction of a great and beautiful wall running from Mount Gambier to the Murray to keep his people safe from the South Australian hordes.

If the schmaltzy slogan of 2020 was “We are all in this together”, the catchcry for 2021 appears to be: “Don’t blame us, it was the other guys.”

The damning credibility problem for Victoria comes when you make the comparison to the NSW Government. Premier Berejiklian has managed to rein in repeated Sydney outbreaks, including the alarming Barbecues Galore case, through meticulous contact tracing rather than the brute force of imprisoning citizens and shutting down the economy.

If true.....Proof positive here that no matter how much education you can still be plain stupid. If this is how Chief Health Officers assess risk someone save us from them.
