I've been home all week so have caught a bit of the Covid updates and QT.

It really does appear to be a miracle that we get anything done in this country. The Betoota and such sites are supposed to be satire but **** me you could be forgiven for thinking we are past the tipping point

No kidding it won’t slide

On the eve of when restrictions were meant to be revoked it comes out in a evening presser that the cases were the primary basis for the rhetoric about how this new variant was a super beast and we find out they aren’t actually positive.

After pointing at laughing at SA for such a stupid fear porn overreaction only a short time ago, our so called health experts have done exactly the same thing.

Now I appreciate one can only respond to data that they are given, yet I don't think the public will be as forgiving. The "fleeting" transmissions were a key part for the decision for tight restrictions and extension the lock down. Now he may very well have had data from other countries to back up the concerns of kappa strain, but I reckon the public's confidence here, where it counts, might be shifting.

Where to from here? If tomorrow and satday is another 1 or 2 with known links, do they unlock early? What if they did and call it wrong, and another symptomatic SOB doesn't isolate and starts a cluster? Surely they can't invoke another snap lockdown straight away? Yet if they keep the 7 days goings based on 1-2 cases from 40,000+ tests, the public's patience will wane. What to do?

As I said from the beginning, this is lose lose for the public health team and the gov. There is no positive to come out of this. Except Victorians are now at the front of the queue for vaccines, and will soon have a purpose built facility.......both of which were only possible due the "good grace" of the Feds. hmmmmm

Agree, the revised concession of false positives and apparently no community transmission by the “South Coast Sojourners” is a serious blow to the notion of “an absolute beast”.

Further noted, the apparent unwillingness of any person of authority in Vic Health to add their imprimatur to that revision document.

I’m still dismayed by Professor Spurrier’s apparent dislike of sweaty men. Does she dust her tradies in super-sanitised talc as they work?

The public’s confidence began shifting well before this current situation, especially anywhere that’s counted as regional Victoria.

This was never a sustainable model, further lockdowns will lead to less and less business compliance out of pure necessity and that will lead to further and further breaches of compliance from the general public on the matter, this is no longer an appropriate situation to be getting the big stick out and smacking people.

The vast majority of the Victoria population fully embraced methods the state government requested and we have been rewarded with some of the least efficient track and trace systems and least accountable public health team that refuse to put their hand up and say “hey guys, our mistake”

On that final point, if tomorrow they were to come out and eat some humble pie and react as quickly at reducing restrictions as they are happy to implement them, they might salvage back some of that public confidence.

Since you love ill-advised government contracts, how about the $660K for vaccine strategy advice?

On the 21st of May I registered for the jab.

I got a confirmation email telling me that I will be contacted within 14 days.

Incidentally - 14 days is today.

2 days ago I logged into the app to check in then I got a message prompting me to register for the vaccination. I did register again.

This time the confirmation email said I will be contacted when there is availability - it was identical to the one from 2 weeks ago other than the time frame for a response.

Yesterday I got an email asking me to keep an eye on my inbox for the notification of availability in my area.

Not sure if it was from the first registration or the second one....

Hoping to just get it done - sick of hearing about it and it will be one less thing to worry about.

My passport is due for renewal in a few months, will be curious to see if they somehow mark or indicate on passports if you have been vaccinated or not?

Something else I’ve found, there’s no clear information on whether the state contact tracing (QR code login) apps work interstate. Has anyone tried this in real life?

‘Once Victoria is safe, then we vaccinate all’: NSW asked to donate Pfizer doses

Quote:
NSW has been asked to send its Pfizer doses to Victoria by the southern state’s peak medical body, which says the suppression of community transmission would benefit Australia as a whole.

Victoria’s Deputy Chief Health Officer Allen Cheng warned that Pfizer doses were quickly drying up across the state after completing nearly 24,000 vaccinations at its clinics on Wednesday, not including doses administered by GPs.

Business wise, I sense Melbourne will become a place to leave in the not to distant future.
Seems only yesterday it was touted as one of the most liveable cities.

I think you might be right on the smaller boutique shops. But where someone closes, another will open.....hopefully.

We are still in the middle of a pandemic, many countries are seeing new waves worse than previous. I think many will come back in 2-5 years after they realise Vic likes to spend spend spend, is less likely to have their cars flooded or hailed on, and is home to the best game in Australia the world.

And they'll be back just in time for another housing bubble

I don't know, I can see big business moving out too. There's only so many times they want to keep re-opening and closing their doors.
I note the price of housing in country Victoria is on a large upward trend as Melbournites leave.
I thought QLD was home to the AFL these days.

Victoria health authorities accused of scaremongering about Covid-19 variants after false positives emerge

Quote:
Premier James Merlino says he only learned of two false positive cases — partially used to justify Melbourne’s extended lockdown — overnight. It comes as four new cases were recorded and the Health Minister prepares to face the media at 10.45am.

Two “fleeting” transmission cases partially used to justify Victoria’s extended lockdown were false positives with the state government now under increasing pressure to publicly release its health advice.

An expert panel on Thursday ruled the cases — a woman who was said to have caught the virus at a display home in Mickleham and a man allegedly infected while dining outdoors at the Brighton Beach Hotel — were “false positives”.

Acting Premier James Merlino admitted on Friday morning that he only learned of the false positive cases overnight on Thursday, after the extended lockdown was announced.

He refused to answer further questions on the timeline of when the government was told by health authorities about the cases.

Interesting they say they have 8 examples of cases from casual / fleeting contacts. But it just so happens that the 2 that they used as examples a couple of days ago, are the only two that have come up as false positives

Do I smell a mole?

Data valid as at 00:00 GMT June 3rd, 2021.

Note: As not all Australian States report at the same time, the data below is based on the previous full day reporting.

11 new cases for Australia and no deaths so the CMR is 3.020%.

2 cases and no deaths for NZ so CMR is 0.970% and active cases 17.

The UK had a higher 5,179 cases yesterday and 18 deaths.

Just over 19k new cases in the USA yesterday and 529 deaths sees CMR at 1.789%.

Other notable points:
North America passes 900k deaths;

Namibia (717) - the previous high on 25/12/2020;
Uganda (1,083) - the previous high on 9/12/2020;
Afghanistan (1,509); and
Colombia (28,624)

... recorded new daily highs; those in blue for the second consecutive day and those in red for a third or more consecutive day.

No countries move above the 90th percentile for their 10 day average while Japan drops below.

Great...we now have detected that we have the new Delta variant.

Is it time to ..

(a) stop all international arrivals until we pizz off the hotel quarantine crap?
(b) recognize that all flights from India are bringing back Covid cases?
(c) recognoze the damage to our economy by allowing international arrivals?
(d) realize that 14 days quarantine is not long enough?

FFS...even blind freddy can see its a small number of arrivals impacting on millions.

It must be a national security issue by now?

It came from India via a returned traveller from India from an Indian born person.

Nothing racist about it, just heard it on the news.

Just having a little fun, lol.

Personally I think covid travels on the 3rd oxygen molecule in Ozone!
How can a ship at sea have covid positive crew members who were negative before sailing!
Just my theory!

When ozone O3 meets oxygen O2 the 3rd ozone molecule drops off, this creates heat, hence elevated body temperature in humans!
Only my opinion, not fact.
