In effect, the high-output XR6 special, which could revive the Falcon's special-edition 'Sprint' nameplate, will be an FG X version of FPV's FGII F6, just as the new XR8 is essentially a Ford Falcon version of the FPV's limited-edition 2012 GT RSPEC.
Apart from firmer RSPEC suspension and beefier Brembo brakes, the hot XR6 is also likely to borrow the XR8's wider 19x9.0-inch rear wheels, potentially giving it the traction to be quicker than the born-again XR8.
Ford makes no official performance claim for the latter, but the $52,490 XR8, which can deliver more than 375kW in overboost mode, should hit 100km/h in about 4.7 seconds.
But given FPV's previous F6 was always around half a second quicker to 100km/h than the V8 GT in standard trim (at about five seconds), we expect the RSPEC XR6T special to be even quicker than the final XR8 – as well as cheaper.
Indeed, apart from its engineering resources being overstretched with work on global models, another reason for the delay in Ford's hottest six-cylinder FG X is to honour what's regarded as Australia's finest homegrown engine via a swansong Falcon limited-edition.

If thats the case hopefully they also do a ute version.

Cheers Mick

Seriously if this is true, Rpsec, GTF, whatever, forget them the "XR6T Sprint" or whatever they call it could beat them both in sprints to 100 and 1/4mile making it the quickest falcon ever beating the Rpsec. The F6 was a serious piece of kit straight out of the box in 2008 but with the Rspec suspension and wider rear wheels with the right day it could show the V8 up. Ute version and I will be signing up.

VERDICT | OVERALL

The 2015 Falcon FG X range is the last hurrah from a Ford Australia we have known for so long, and its arrival also signals the arrival of a new Ford Australia.

An importer, not a manufacturer, one with a global range, and, when the Falcon and Territory run comes to an end, a range that will be without a large rear-wheel-drive sedan and wagon.

But if this is to be the last, it’s a fitting end. The Falcon, always a better car than the market gave it credit, is improved most places it matters with the new FG X range.

Refinement, feel, consumption and price... all have been improved. Add in the SYNC 2 system, and there is a lot of car here for not too much coin.

It has impressed us. Perhaps it’s time you also had another look.

There is no "RSPEC suspension" in the utes... unfortunately. They are the Achilles heel of the Ford/FPV utes, leaf sprung live rear axles that cant efficiently transfer the torque of the Boss 335. The turbo lag of the F6 has the advantage in terms of delayed power delivery to the rear wheels making it hook up better. Mid corner, I know know which one I'd prefer.

Well I've been looking down for the last 50 years and I've never rear ended anyone! (averaging 200,000 k's a year)

I did try a HUD digital speedo with my phone, bloody distracting.

I assume that from the way you speak of HUD you've been using it for a while ?

Yep it's great. Shows the posted speed limit. My speed. Sat nav directions. And all media info.

With the current speeding fines and cameras etc. it's a lifesaver. Alerts school zones etc

Of course not, the Utes always are short changed. BUT i would still buy a XR6T "special" ute because I am in the market at the moment. A seden version though will be a serious contender as I was alluding to. I already have an rspec sedan so that does not tempt me but a ute with a hypo output with the new face would please me enough for Ford to get more of my money, leaf springs and all. My FG Turbo was heaps of fun so a 310 version would be fantastic, even more so as its a "New" model. I always regreted not buying a 310 F6 over the XR.

Yeh I think holden told a few fibs about the GTS power.. Great car. But to be at the top you need MORE power. 400 rwkw is a nice number for a performance car

This was my first drive in an auto performance car &
as much as it was nice, to me , it just felt like I wasn't
driving the car, if you know what I mean.

Cant wait till next year to get mine

You didnt have any trouble securing one for a test drive then.

lol, it's my least favourite colour! But it's still a cracking great looking car.

Having said that, my local dealership finally got one in - a plain Jane XR6 in Victory Gold (which looks far nicer in the flesh in full sun than it did on TV or in pics here). Also worth noting that they haven't sold any XR8 and aren't getting an 8 in until March next year, at the earliest. This part of regional NSW isn't enamoured with the FGX apparently (except for me anyway).
