Used to think highly of Motor, but the bias is becoming too obvious.

Daylight between the performance figures. SAME brake package. And the seat ain't that bad, sheesh! You can keep your VF interior, certainly fresher and more tech but also cheap looking to my eyes.

Don't think I'll be renewing my subscription, methinks.

Aren't the brakes 4 pot brembos? that 0-100 time is pretty high as well

Every other review been saying the xr 8 sticks to the road and is the best handling falcon ever so not sure where wheels gets unsettled ride from. Should change their name to Holden magazine.

So both wheels and motor gave the win to the SSV

Maybe the testers are old and not into power or drag racing

Looks like there might be more room down there; so the turbo boys might be able to whack thicker intercoolers or radiators with ease? I'm sure in time some new FG X specific performance parts will be made i.e. altering whats currently available to suit
Actually there's less overhang on the FGX, than on the FG:

FG:
Front Overhang: 954 mm
Rear Overhang: 1179 mm
Overall Length: 4970 mm

FGX:
Front Overhang: 943 mm
Rear Overhang: 1168 mm
Overall Length: 4949 mm

Or they're judging the car as a whole. No one can argue the Miami kicks *** but the VF is a generation ahead nearly everywhere else.

What was the temperature and location and were both cars performance tested at the same time? That info is usually under the times I think.
Slow 0-100 and 400 metre times don't tell too much unless you can see the initial launch times because there could be grip problems.
However the XR8's 180.8 end speed and an apparent 8.1 seconds to go from 100 to 180.8 suggests to me that there possibly wasn't too much (if any) overboost working on the published run. I think at least around mid 180's should be possible at the 400 metre point unless air conditions are poor.

Jesse Taylor (now EVO AUSTRALIA editor) got 189 at 400 metres out of the WHEELS test RSpec at WSID. It was a manual and the conditions were cool, but over 8 kmh difference in end speed seems a big difference.
The Holden's end speed also seems a bit slow to me.
Can you post the 0-60 times please.

As stated in the gtf thread you tried to troll, thanks for proving you weren't just asking "innocent" questions by the way... You'll never own one of those super special final gt's and you'll never get what they mean because it's beyond your ability to understand.

Like wise you won't understand what these xr8's represent to their owners. It's a real shame that because you don't comprehend you feel the need to denigrate. These cars represent the pinnacle of the falcon, they wipe the floor with the SS and then some. When the SS finally gets itself some decent power you can come back then and crow. Until that day suck it up, the XR8 is the new king of the 60k v8's.

XR8 0-60 2.8
SSV 0-60 2.8
They mention using launch control for the XR8's times.

I've never used launch control but I don't think it did the XR8 any favours because they wrote: "Not until well into 3rd gear does the Ford's yellow ESC light stop flickering, at which point it feels like a subtle anchor has been removed and the car is unleashed"

Why is traction control still activated when they're doing drag strip testing?
Doesn't make sense to me.

Launch control is definitely slower than a properly controlled full grip run. But it's bloody fun

I'm in no way surprised that motor gave and would give the SSV the win. They have alway favoured the Holden over the Falcon you may as well go and as Holden's CEO which one is better. Wheel's magazine aren't much better either. Sorry guys end of rant!

I must agree with the Wheels/Motor being one sided. I wrote to them a couple of years ago and copped a real nasty e-mail back, which to me means I hit a nerve. up until recently I had every Wheels mag from 1967 to date. unfortunately it was to much to store so I got rid of all but the few special ones.

While going through them my son and I read the tests with GT V GTS/Monaro, Falcon v Kingswood/Commodore and even the son said I should have bought Holdens because its clear Ford have never made a good car. in my opinion its the whole Holden is the Aussie car and Ford is a yank tank, rubbish if the Holden boys went back and had a good look at where thier Holdens came from through both eyes I think they would shut up! Or like a lot of them go stick a Chevy badge on their All Australian Holden.

Rant done

Not 100 percent sure about holden but I have been told all ford do is fit the blower and drop the engine in

Heard another interesting fact about about the V8 overboost function
Apparently overboost is the cars normally developed power but seeing as it doesn't have an intercooler power is pulled out back to 335

So the V8 boys should definitely fit coolers just for efficiency

I don't understand why they don't come with one from the factory

Does the GT-F have an intercooler

Ford basic engine comes from the US but local boys do more than just slap on the blower. My understanding internals are changed as are heads.

Yeh, I think buried in this thread (& many others) are the details of how much work is done locally to assemble Ford Miami v8. As for the Ford I6 vs the Holden v6....and the local content of the last Aussie cars (~70%) versus Holden (<50%)....pretty clear which make is more 'Australian' .

Apparently overboost is the cars normally developed power but seeing as it doesn't have an intercooler power is pulled out back to 335

So the V8 boys should definitely fit coolers just for efficiency

I don't understand why they don't come with one from the factory

Does the GT-F have an intercooler
No intercoolers because they make too much power from the factory. During development they did everything they could to strangle the motor to keep it at the realistic low 300s sticker. Miami was designed for an intercooler but it made around 430kw all day, none of this overboost BS. Throttles in the 335 are restricted to 60% and 80% in the GTF. Imagine the public outcry in 2010 when the motor was released if Ford jumped from 315kw to 430kw and close to 400rwkw. Another handy outcome for Ford is the cost savings involved by not having the need for intercooling to be at their desired point with miami.
