That was cool, but useless in a country where it rains to much. Send it to Australia.

I have to agree that 46 psi in the tyres wasn't good, but to be fair to the WHEELS test driver involved, he drove the Auto 351 GTF at the Ford test track and I believe the published 0-60 kmh and 0-100 kmh times were better at 2.5 and 4.68 seconds. Also I know drivers have done better without launch control in manuals, but I haven't seen that with the Auto GT. I'm pretty sure he used the launch control for the 4.68 second run. But I reckon you're on the right track by looking at what happened after the early part of the Auto XR8's run, because good 0-100 kmh and 400 metre times confirm that a car is fast, but on the other hand in low grip situations when the tyres let go, a fast front engine/rear drive car can look pretty lame to a lot of people, I think there's a tendency to base straight line performance opinions on just 0-100 kmh and 400 metre times. Consider the following:- The fastest time that my XR6 Turbo Auto has managed to 60 kmh is 2.24 seconds on a high grip surface (measured by a GPS based RACELOGIC PERFORMANCE BOX, the same model that MOTOR has been using). When I compare that time with another 0-60 kmh run that was exactly 6 tenths slower (ie 2.84 sec) and use the RACELOGIC software, I can accurately work out that the 6 tenths slower time to 60 kmh would affect the 400 metre time by 5.2 tenths. So the 0-100 kmh time would obviously be 6 tenths slower and the 400 metre time 5.2 tenths slower. We're seeing around 85% of the time loss to 60 kmh flowing into the 400 metre result. I'm quite confident that the XR8 would have the power to shave quite a bit off WHEELS 2.8 sec to 60 kmh time, so it's obviously capable of doing quite a bit better than the 5.2 to 100 kmh and 13.3 sec 400 metre times achieved in their test, as long as there is enough grip. Also another interesting point to note is that the RACELOGIC software tells me that the 6 tenths slower launch to 60 kmh would only have a very minimal effect on the 400 metre end speed, actually only ONE THIRD of one kilometre per hour. So it's clearly the end speed and rolling acceleration numbers that often tell a lot more about a cars performance than just 0-100 and 400 metre times, and on that point I notice that the XR8 was nearly a third faster in acceleration from 60 to 200 kmh than the Commodore and nearly 13 kmh faster at the 400 metre point. Significant differences I think. That said though, I would have expected more end speed out of both the XR8 and the Commodore. Below is my GPS data that shows the results of two 0-60 kmh runs with 47 and 37 psi in the tyres. They were on a surface that didn't have a high grip level, at exactly the same location with the same load and only about 10 minutes apart. Also the same 1300 rpm stall was used on both runs. 47 PSI run............................................... .........37 PSI 0-60 kmh run 0-10 kmh............0.45 sec...................................0.45 sec 0-20 kmh............0.96 sec @ 2.78 metres.............0.94 sec @ 2.71 metres 0-30 kmh............1.47 sec..................................1.44 sec 0-40 kmh............1.95 sec @11.02 metres.............1.89 sec @10.56 metres 0-50 kmh............2.42 sec..................................2.34 sec 0-60 kmh............2.97 sec @25.26 metres.............2.84 sec @23.88 metres So the 10 psi of extra inflation caused a time loss of of 0.13 seconds to 60 kmh and it would cause a time loss of 0.11 seconds at the 400 metre point. I'll be honest about the GT350 note...i don't like it under heavy acceleration from low to mid range revs, that growl just sounds like its struggling a little bit or something...but sounds good cruising at low speed and up in the higher rev range....i'll be more than happy with a 5.0L s/c engine under the bonnet in the near future, but if i were to decide which other engine to go in...it would have to be the 5.8L s/c like in the super snakes

I'll probably get banned for this, but it sounds too much like an old thongslapper 253 in a HQ-HZ Kingswood......

How about this XR8 Boss 5.4L with kenne bell supercharger at the mount gambier autofest 2010, this may swing the 5.0's to the 5.4's!

My wife was at the local ford dealer yesterday getting the car serviced and the dealer told her that there is rumoured that ford will be doing a special XR8 to be released as the last one. Was wondering if any one else on here has heard this?

Perhaps the dealer's rumourmill was mistaken with the speculated hi-po XR6T - that's one rumour that won't go away...

If they do a final XR8 (which they probably will) it will most likely be cosmetic, can't see them doing much in the way of mechanical changes and really doubt there will be a power increase.

I doubt we will get any limited edition Falcons, Ford have nothing left in the kitty for the FGX from here on in it will be all about marketing and advertising the mustang!

I don't believe they will do a limited xr8, maybe an xr6 turbo, but not an 8. The current xr8 seems to be limited as it is.

I'm sure Ford have plenty of stickers in the factory to do a LE run of something especially if the FGX don't sell like they won't it to

Biggest letdown: Ford Falcon EcoBoost
'There were a few this year. Mitsubishi's Outlander PHEV and the Mini Paceman are somewhere near the top of the list. But standing on the top of the podium is the Ford Falcon EcoBoost – and not because the car is bad. Far from it. More because Ford is seemingly embarrassed to have the Falcon – and all its history – in its current line-up. And the most embarrassing of the lot appears to be the EcoBoost. Despite a fabulous four-cylinder engine the car misses out on the XR "wings and wheels" treatment that is a hook for so many of the dwindling large car buyers. Instead the EcoBoost gets a bland and understated look that promises to ensure the car continues as a poor seller. If the marketing message is anything like it's been for Falcon in recent years even the dealers could forget about it." http://www.drive.com.au/motor-news/h...23-12cvw0.html

So if they are going to make a special edition XR8 as the final falcon, why advertise this XR8 as the final one?

The dealer told wifey it's most likely to be a 351KW as one last Hooraa for the XR8.

I haven't seen a single FGX on the road either, which is a damn shame. I have only seen a few at the dealers too - a white G6E at Titan Ford, a black G6E at McInerney Ford and an XR6 and XR8 in Victory Gold at McInerney.
Having seen a few, I think white doesn't work on the G6E, and neither does the tan trim. I'm not much of a fan of Victory Gold either. So far from what I've seen, the FGX doesn't really impress me. I need to see a few more in different colours.

I've seen two om the road, but given they've been out for a few weeks it's a bit sad to only see that many.

Bargain. I haven't seen a single one yet either. Only a black XR8 at titans. They want 75k as well.
75k will buy a nice car with cash left over for a few mods
