Oh yeah! I remember reading that term in a few of my old American Mopar mags.

For a second I thought it was prespex.

315 lives about 10 minutes down the road from me. Guy drives it in rush hour traffic sometimes! Had 5.8 badges on the guards too.. should be 4.9 I thought?

I'm very curious about this car at the museum.

Pretty sure the car at the museum that won in 1977 is actually an XB with updated sheet metal and dash. This thread might hold the answer, but since Baby Preecey has just started waking up I don't have time to read it myself. moff donated the 77 bathurst winner to the bathurst museum. for sandown 78, it was painted in cobra colours and given the horizontal repeaters on the quarter panels (bonds car kept the vertical repeaters). it was then painted in the federation colours and later restored back to the 77 colours - still with the horizontal repeaters though

Thanks for the replies.
I thought that it was the '77 winner XB with an XC update but wasn't sure.
What threw me was the horizontal rear quarter lights and the XC dash as that is a fair bit of work for asthetics especially in racing.
I knew that I read it somewhere but it didn't seem to add up (to me anyway).

Thanks

Wayne

Hi smally351,

It must have been number 25 you had at your work shop, number 27 has been in Brisbane since 1978 owned by my uncle, he purchased it from a Ford dealer in Brisbane after it was used as one marshals car at Bathurst in 78.
No 48 and 369 are also owned by members of my family.
Regards Paul

it was orinally rolled then purchased repaired then raced cant rember which issue of amc its in but like i said its the only genuine falcon cobra raced at bathurst its still owned by the watson family if i recall currently under restoration back to original cobra spec.
The driver who raced the car is also building a replica of this cobra he kept all the stickers of the car when they retired it from racing to give back to the watson family.

Hey Paul, is your uncle's no. 27 the official cobra Bathurst pace car with all the original paint & stickers etc. If so, I was talking to him at the Toowoomba swap meet - 1 very unique cool cobra.

I know of three in Ballarat area. Not sure of the numbers of any of them but one was allegedly bought out of an old guy's shed about 18 months ago. The guy that has it now reckons it hadn't moved in over 20 years but in real good condition. And if i mentioned what he told me he paid for it we would all cry (I am). I'll see if i can suss out any numbers

Cobra 340 was sold July 2010 I did speak with the new owner at the time, it doesn't look any different now than it did then. Seat material is extremley hard to get these day's the company that did the last 3 runs went into liquidation one month after the last run so that's the end of that source.

Hi 66GT,
That is my uncles car, the paint is original but the stickers were put back on a few years ago back to the original specs, my uncles says it was the pace car but there were more than one used as marhals cars that week end so that is up for debate as the owners of the other cobras used that weekend will argue there car was the official pace car ??
cheers Paul

My good friend Greg over here in Christchurch owns cobra 391. Alive and well.

He has owned it for about 17 years and it is unrestored.

Cheers,

That looks just like Cobra 392 One made it all the way to NZ. That's pretty impressive.

Good to see we are tracking them all down.
