Would you buy a discounted Holden?

I started the thread I the back of the leaked memo made public but as it turns out, it was a false alarm. I would have been tempted by a half price astra but not at the prices being mentioned.

To make a purchase attractive on these vehicles,let’s say you are purchasing a LTZ-V AWD Acadia(top of the line) @ $66,000( or thereabouts) Depreciation is about 66% on these,when you come to “flip” the vehicle after say,three years,it is worth around 21k mark,to stop losing this much money you need @ least a discount of 20k,to just “break even”.Its competitors(Kluger,CX9,Hyundai Santa Fe etc...) depreciate @ around 44%,so in three years you are better off with the comp.It is a gamble buying one of these.If you DO NOT care about depreciation & intend keeping the vehicle for say up to ten years,it is not to bad financially.But then,warranty,service support etc...is an unknown @ this stage.Getting this much discount(20k) is a really big ask from a dealer.There is a dealer in Victoria(Ferntree Gully Holden) have two.NO free servicing,no 7 year warranty.Any “further discounts” by “appointment only”.Then they can spin you their “BS”!

all the dealers are saying "all stock must go"
but there are no online prices so they just want walk-ins that way they can screw them face to face

i am set up with the FG and its running sweet. ticks all the boxes. i keep my cars as long as possible. i am not in position to change vehicles right now.....but if was on the verge of changing and this deal come up, i would snap up an AWD v6 commodore, no question. they are not bad to look at on the road, and next to a VF, they making them look very dated.

I'd guess being a lease and with the brand closing completely in the next few months they are too "scared" about future value and ongoing service.

I presume Falcon owners will find themselves in the same situation, where their cars will be worth at best $100/ tonne scrap metal value.

The ford brand still exists though. There was never a fire sale to clear out dealerships so they can close them. And good luck getting holden parts in 5 years. GM will keep minimal stock. Do you think they will care if parts start running out in 3 years? What will the buyers do, complain that they will never buy a holden again? GM business ethics 101.

There will always be demand for falcons. Resale value on the good ones, turbo’s, v8’s etc is holding really well.

Can’t see anyone wanting a zb, astra etc in a few years time.

GM still exists as do FORD.Can’t see much difference in getting Falcon parts in years to come compared to Commodore parts.As far as the Euro based Commodores etc supply should be good for years to come,can’t really say the same for Aussie based cars.There are parts for BA-BF Falcons which are NLA now.

BA-BF Falcons are on average 15 years old. Its not a surprise parts are unavailable.

The issue will be if you crash your car and the repair shop has to import parts,
your vehicle might take a bit longer to get fixed.

There'll be demand for Falcons for a while yet. V8 prices are going up, some quite well.

I would buy one, but you would need to be very careful and do your homework. I know some dealers still selling cars with big profits in them after the GM incentive has come through. You really need to shop around and push for their best price as unfortunately like hail sales people fall for the liquidation adds and "think" they are getting a great deal.

An interesting situation has popped up, and I've got 2 questions. My friends has lost all the keys for his 2006 Commodore. Everyone has told him to tow it to a Holden dealer as they are the only people able to get it going again.

Q1) Is that true? Is a Holden dealer the only way out? (I know nothing on the '06 Commo).

Q2) It got me thinking if this happened in 5 - 10 years time to current / new Holden owners, and there is no Holden dealers, what can they do?

I am surprised that none of the motoring web sites have revealed this and it has been kept hush.
Some drone shots of all the Holdens sitting there would draw attention to their site if published.
It is not like Holden has any advertising they can withdraw or anything now.
