This is what I hate. Its not like they've known that its coming here 2 to 3 weeks ago. They've known for months. If they can only get a couple of cars here, a couple there, then somethings wrong!!!

Demand is outstripping supply in Europe. Its not like the Focus, where they are built in numerous plants, the Mondeo is made in one plant in Belgium, which supplies the whole world. I have read that they are bringing another plant online in Eastern Europe, but that will be a number of years before that happens.

God help the poor buggers wanting an XR5T. There is said to be a 6 Month wait time on them.

Just a quick one, cant remember if I have already asked.

Looking at the specs, can you option a manual in the other models? Surely if they cant even meet demand, and you have to wait, then you could order one.

What the heck was there thought process behind that?

Nope. Only the XR5. Ford are offering the Mondeo squarely at families, and I know many (and am part of one) where one member can't drive Manual. I expect them to be added later, when demand elsewhere slows.

They would want to! This is the same as the FPV Force thing, it is not at all difficult to give the consumer some options, and especially when it does not cost ford another cent.

For example, say someone wants a manual mondeo, but can not stretch to the XR5 for whatever reason; then they have no choice other than to get a Focus if they want to stay with Ford.

I dont know, it just seems to be such an easy thing to do that might/should grab a couple more sales. Strike while the iron is hot I say.

Have you seen a Manual Mazda6? Or a Manual Camry? I haven't. No loss of sales there, even though both have manual options.

But thats not to say they couldn't sell a few more. Im just saying, for a car that comes from Europe you are trying if its not available in a manual aswell.

Personally a manual Zetec or TDCi would be a good daily. Such a little engine with an auto is not good in my books, and Im sure im not the only one in Australia who thinks that way. Granted the uptake wouldn't be huge, but there is no work involved for Ford Oz.

You can get a manual in the focus range, which so I dont see the difficulty.

LOL..that sucks.

Just a question, as a dealership is the no manual other than XR5 concrete? Could you order one and wait if you wanted to?

No, definantly not! or in the near future!

wether it comes (along with the wagon) down the track depends on a number of things!

How the model sells

Supply from Europe

Demand from customers.

Anything is possible provided there is a sufficent market to justify the cost of meeting the stringent ADR requirements etc!

Also, adding more models, options, etc really complicates the ordering process, these cars will be ordered by dealers 6 months in advance, so the colour/trim/transmission/options etc are set that far in advance! its almost impossible to pick, especially with a new model. Along with very limited supply it makes it tricky trying to guess the market!
So having models that suit the vast majority makes sence in a lot of ways!

I see what you mean but no offence, ADR should have nothing to do with it as its just a gearbox. The XR5 will have it, it doesn't affect crash or alike so I dont see a problem.

Ill stop with my jihad now, just seems like an easy way to increase its potential.

Easy when it actually exists somewhere in the Ford world... not so easy when Europe hasn't done an auto yet!

Just checking if we are on the same wave length...

I was talking about the manuals, I think having manual only on the XR5 is fine. Surely they have manual options in Europe (all models), and Bucket on these forums swears he saw a manual Zetec in Oz (pending pics).

Volvo has ;)

C30/S40/V50/C70

But it's a 5 speed Aisin-Warner unit so might look a little odd, given the rest of the auto Mondeos have a 6 speed. Who knows, maybe the 6 speed is of a similar size to the 5 used in the Volvos.

However, looking at what other powertrains are used in the EUCD cars, I suspect there'll be other engines available for autos.

In about 2,000 years when they're used, dumped on superlows and have fully hectic sounds systems in them, they'll be available on the used market.

G'day All,

I was at first dissapointed by the only auto option for the Mondeo, except for the XR5. But, after looking at Ford UK and another European Ford website, it showed they too only use the 6sp auto for the 2.3l and 2.0l diesel. So, it's engine related and not Ford Oz. Now, my only complaint is that there is no wagon option!(yet!).

Regards,

Rob

Not sure about that - http://www.ford.co.uk/spg/images/3_2...ist_011007.pdf says there is a manual for each model and each engine spec. Given that harly anyone drives autos in UK / europe, not surprising.

I prefer an auto in the city, you just concentrate on driving. Not worrying about what gear you are in. Just steer and drive. If you live inthe country, manuals are ok.
When the Mondeo is a sales success, the manual will come in. But I would have thought the base Mondeo would have been a manual with auto option. The ZETEC auto with manual option. I am going to FORDS Mondeo test drive this saturday.

Yeap...of course there is a manual option on all of them, its a European car! Most of them are not lazy fat a$re aussie/americans.

Anyway, they had better come out soon enough, I cant see the reason for waiting as its hardly a meal ticket for them.

Not according to this:

1.6 Duratec 110ps, Durashift 5-Speed Manual

2.0 Duratec 145ps, Durashift 5-Speed Manual
2.3 Duratec 161ps, Auto (6 Speed)
2.5 Duratec 220ps, Durashift 6-Speed Manual
1.8 Duratorq TDCi 100ps, Durashift 5-Speed Manual
1.8 Duratorq TDCi 125ps, Durashift 5-Speed Manual
1.8 Duratorq TDCi 125ps, Durashift 6-Speed Manual
2.0 Duratorq TDCi 130ps, Auto (6 Speed)
2.0 Duratorq TDCi 140ps, Durashift 6-Speed Manual

The 2.5, 2.3 Petrol and the 2.0 130PS Diesel are the engine choices for Oz.

What sort of delivery time did they quote you and if you don't mind me asking what did it roughly end up costing on the road?

Hey noddy i am going to the brissy mondeo preview test drive from ford on saturday, its at victoria park golf course, same as csv8 i assume. I was signed up on the mondeo minisite for info about mondeo from day one (big fan of all euro fords) and got an email a couple of weeks ago offering me a preview drive - rang ford and got allocated this saturday.

Probably be the youngest guy there at only 22 but my dad and a few other people i know are seriously interested in one - given he is from far north of the state - lord knows when they will ever get one to test drive up in those boonies

Anyway hoping it is going to be useful since while i am a falcon man unlike some others it seems i'm not really worried about the whole 'mondeo stealing falcon sales' thing - ford only reckon 500 or so a month, so how big a dint could it really make in falcon sales anyway. Besides, that is really a different type of buyer. Just means ford will have to really deliver on orion to make an equally good proposition for large car buyers- and so they should! :

Anyway, if i can find the time i might post a bit of an amateurs opinion on the car after the drive if anyone is interested.
