Why do you have to buy a car that frequently? Sounds like a choice to me.

I've had my EL for about ten years now, I could've bought all that time and still have the funds to buy a new car but I choose not to. You can call buying a new(er) car an "upgrade", but as long as spare parts are easy & cheap enough I'll keep maintaining and driving around in my heritage green cruiser. It's reliable, comfortable and continues to suit my needs. Plus I like the fact that as it gets older it turns more heads :-)

Fact is, the majority of the cars in my sig turn heads, not because they are worth a lot of money, but because they are in excellent condition and you just don't see too may around.

and i suppose there is a consensus by many that because its old it will automatically be rubbish, but a lot of the older cars really where good to drive/good cruisers, and still are ..............as long as they are maintained and still in good order. if you are happy with them and they suit your needs why not keep driving them. |

I can't afford to drive old junk when you do the km so if you do over 100.000km you can't sell them or you loose big $ It can work out best to get a new one every year, and that's if I can get them at the right price. I can't afford to drive something that brakes down or I can't just jump in and drive from QLD to VIC say at any tick of the clock as I can be off directly. |

In the year 2050. I will be cannabilising parts from any cars left to keep my GT going. Draining fuel tanks, whatever it takes.

The trusty 07 BF will see the sales yard in the coming months, and at this stage I'm leaning towards either a VF 8cyl sportswagon or a Skoda RS wagon. That wagon space is just too handy at this junction in my life!
Then when I'm done with the need of a wagon, I'll buy one of your used FGX XR8s |

I wish the Ranger had the option of coils in the rear. I carry large things, not heavy things. I don't really need leaf suspension. Also what is the current obsession of utes being Orange. The colour on the new Navara looks terrible. |

I saw an EL Fairmont Ghia a few days ago. Looked immaculate from the outside. The EL Ghia was one of my dream cars when I was a kid. Loved the look of the interior with either grey or cappuccino leather, wood and chrome. Maybe one day if I ever find one for sale that's stock standard and meticulously maintained, I'll buy it as a restoration project.

i have been thinking about this and got to figuring out the numbers.
Say I am 56 and doing approx 15,000 kms per year. If I abandon the whole idea of need a new car, I get to a scenario of 150,000 km on the FG mk 11 by the time I am 65 and then 300,000 by the time I am 75... So this means no more outlay on repayments plus interest and by the time I am 75 hopefully someone else can drive me around everywhere for a change...or maybe I can push it over 300,000 ...If I hold it long enough and give it to the kids, and they give it to their kids it might become a classic resto.... Against the savings is outlay to maintain it but that cost on a reliable car should be heaps less...than the lease or loan payments on another car... I am still really happy with my fg 2012 and I figure it can go the distance so there is a good chance that it could be the last new car I ever by. I also figure that I can put some other fancy wheels on it if I get bored, or get it re upholstered in some luxury leather, cat back to hoon it up or whatever... But for me the whole Falcon ending in 2016 has got me thinking more about other options than simply, what other model do I buy when the good ole falcon aint around anymore...

Keep Falcon bodyshell forever and find ways to adapt new parts from other manufacturers or other Ford vehicles to make it faster, stronger and better. Wouldnt mind cutting up perfectly good AMG, BMW M, or Nismo vehicles for the privilege

I'll either try to keep the with hipo Falcons til it's too hard to buy parts.
Mustang is no good as a two door for my needs. So maybe a turbo 5 series for me.
