Thanks Steficio and Syndrome. It was really cold this morning in Melbourne.I measured the time taken for rpm to stabilise. With the ambient temperature at 7 C,the Focus Ecoboost engine took 8 minutes and 15 seconds for the rpm to stabilise to 750.The engine was started from cold with no acceleration applied.I ran the test test on my Passat as well(1.8 turbo petrol) and it stabilised to 750 in 2 minutes and 40 seconds. Logically Passat should have taken longer to stabilise as the bigger engine block needs more time to warm up.Just wondering if this needs any further investigation?

What year Passat? My ‘95 Golf took a while to heat up and get back to low revs and it was similar time to your Passat. Although my Golf had 6 cylinders so might explain why it got to temp fast.

What Variant/badge? -- Sport
What series? -- LZ
What transmission? -- Auto
How many km's did it run? -- 137000 and still going strong. I've not had any issues apart from a water pump bearing which needed to be replaced recently. Still I am thinking of upgrading to the new Focus ST Line or a 2018 LZ with full unlimited klm warranty since I am out of warranty now.

Thoughts?

Year: 2011
Variant: TDCi - hatch
Series: LV
Transmission: Manual
Mileage: 194,000km

Timing and auxiliary belts are due for replacement at 200,000km.

Just bought this because it was amazing low km for the year and price ~5k. I wasn’t even looking at Foci but at Golfs as a reliable runabout that won’t completely usurp the kombi. Whatever it was, I didn’t expect to love it, but it’s great! For its class it’s roomy, punchy and handles really nicely.

Is 2012 a LW?
Getrag gearbox?
My 2013 LW sucked the fuel up as well.

Kevino - I reckon it was around 130,00. It was water pump bearing and suspiciously straight after a full service by dealer. I wonder if they knocked something... anyways, I'm nearly at 165,000 now. The thought of changing up to a newer model won't go away. However, I feel like perhaos I can get another 50,000 klms into it before I change over.

Just an update. My Focus just officially reached the 200,000km mark!
As part of maintenance procedures, I replaced the following just recently:
* Timing belt kit and waterpump @195,000km
* Coolant, might as well if replacing waterpump
* Oil and Oil filter @197,000km
* Fuel Filter @ 199,000km
* Tyres @194,000km

Also, just replaced the silicon pad on driver's door window controls. As the carbon that touches the circuit board has degraded, making driver's window inoperable. $20 on eBay, only used the silicon pad inside, and threw the rest away.

And of course, how many km's did it run? Bought it with 142,000 ish, up to 146,500.
Problems?
*Rear passenger door didnt lock with the others (little plastic bit in lock was worn down, replaced locking motor)
*Has vibrations when sat at the lights (probably motor mouts, so intend to replace them)
*When you accelerate get a noise, most likely suspects are wheel bearings or inner CV of Drive shafts (intend to replace both Wheel bearings and drive shafts)
*oil residue on valve cover by the ignition coils (rocker cover gasker probably.)

Km's ? 153,000km

- Bought car new as a run out model in 2011

- Rear tail lights and rear 1/4 windows don't seal properly anymore and when it rains boot spare wheel well fills up with water

- Dash vibrates at idle - suspected busted engine mount(s)

- Car is lightly modified:

Airtec Gen3 FMIC
22mm Whiteline rear swaybar
Bilstein B8 shortened shocks
Eibach Prokit Springs (30mm drop)
3" turbo back exhaust
Stainless IC piping
Devils Own Stage 2 WMI
Factory turbo, remapped running 23 PSI boost

103KW/wheels.

Car has had a very hard life though still on its original pads and rotors it came from the factory with @ 153,000km
Still got it, still on its original pads and rotors at 206,000KM

LR LX Auto 2002 Sedan 295000km purchased new by my Mother.
Car has only needed maintenance, new shocks/front mounts usual consumables.
Twice damaged when getting service, resulting in a bent bonnet and causing a hose to split.
Everything is self serviced now as much as possible.
It has been an outstanding car, now used by Nephew.

LR ST-170 2003 @140000 km. Stock, clean car. Needs a clutch, some clear coat needs work due to being under a cover for too long. Will stay stock.

LR ST-170 2003 @293000 km. Daily driver, sitting up on jack stands for a clutch. Yes that’s fun getting to. Will get a major refurb, 70% of parts are ready to go.
With a nice exhaust and minor mods/ecu tune this car is my favorite.
Needs some exhaust parts/headers ceramic heat shielded. The 4-1 miltek is the surface of the sun.
This car is begging to get the MTX75 from the zetec with single mass flywheel/zetec engine output shaft conversion. I will post about that potential mod later.
OEM sucks!
If I only had the stock car I’d do everything this has to it.
The purists can buy their own stock car like the one thats been on the market for months in WA.
When running this car gets driven for the sake of it, 3 hour cruises on great roads in the Hunter.
Every moment is driving pleasure!

LR Zetec Man 2004 @160 000 bought from a friend but never driven by me. Is used to refurbish and rotate parts. Could be driven after some minor work.

I love the LR series, they are extremely well mannered on the road and have stood the test of time.

I have some clips on tiktok ST170inAus Just messing around there and talking to UK/US owners. I haven’t done any driving ones yet. I have a you tube channel for that but no content yet.

How are you going on sourcing OEM Parts. I'm told that in the U.K. there's no shortage of any major mechanical parts or even consumables but I'm yet to test this theory.

Unhappy Re: Just a Survey: How many Kilometers Your Focus has Done?

UPDATE

2007 CL LS Focus Sedan in Jeans Blue (Smooth Pack) for 20,990 AUD (2007 prices)

18/5/2007 - 2/4/2021

337,490 km (IIRC) (at least). Very close to 340 k km.

Died of old age, I think the seals/rings and gaskets went. When it went there was the billowing of white smoke, no power and it did not want to change gear. Suspected clutch but mechanic who bought it off me for parts said nope, more likely I was smelling coolant.

Much work

New engine mounts (me)
New serpentine & AC belt (me)
New stupid bonnet key
Flushed radiator a couple of times (me)
Stupid spark plus bolt chewed tapped threads and there was one eventually that would not come out
Did a lot of servicing myself, services were generally good here and at independent mechanics or dealers
Got the death rattles (SWIRL FLAPS) in 2019 IIRC whilst traveling through Khnacoban to Jindabyne then back down Eucumbene to Talbingo

Biggest issue really was the brake discs needed rehoning a couple of times after about 150k km. Got ripped off once on that, Northern Beaches.

I also reckon they were a bit hard on batteries the old Focuses, but maybe I needed a new alternator. I had electrical failure once, on the hill out past Goulburn coming back up to Sydney. Pulled over, restart, no issues.

Then there was the seatbelt warning indicator which was incorrectly programmed and turned on whenever I reversed no matter what when I first got it. I never had to drive backwards when I drove it out of the lot on delivery!

Car was great until after 220 k km, still drove okay out to about 280k km, then it was an absolute box.

Car quality, comfort, performance definitely dropped after 180k km.

Drive a VW Jetta and a Prado now, but I loved that silly little blue car. From new.

They are safe up to about 140 km / 155 km per hour, but over 145 km the engine struggles. At 170 km/hr, I totally do not recommend, they get airborne.

As bad as a 1982 VH Commodore doing 185 km /hr.

As the car aged, the plugs got noticeably more dirty.

It was a very easy car to look after. EXCEPT for the stupid AC pipe outlet that got clogged with pollen and flooded my car. I actually enjoyed fixing this little car. Despite the skinned knuckles and swearing, it was great.

Oh god. How can I forget the drive shaft replacement and then the epic driveshaft failure in early 2018 (IIRC?).
