From what I can gather, by rumour, so no solid evidence the Holden stand is going to show:
* Possible production ready Torana * Possible VE Crewman * Production ready Sportwagon * HSV Sportwagon variant For some reason, I feel Holden's stand will be the draw card...

I think something mainstream - NOT HSV.
Holden will be trying to appeal to the general public and make headlines in this time of high petrol prices and green thinking. |

Just noticed this... it doesn't mention that Holden had any part in designing this car but it could somehow be...
Another embargo bites the dust, but at least it made it this far. Keep reading for all the details on the GMC Denali XT Concept that will debut next week at the 2008 Chicago Auto Show. Ever since it became know that GM would be bringing the rear-wheel-drive Pontiac G8 sedan to the US market from Australia, fans of the old El Camino have been salivating for them to bring over the Holden "Ute", as well. For the uninitiated, Australians use the term "Ute" to describe utility vehicles that are car-based pickup trucks. Both Holden and Ford offer Utes based on their rear-wheel-drive passenger car platforms. Camino fans can now relax, because the first US iteration is arriving in Chicago this week and it's got some interesting twists. The GMC Denali XT concept is inspired by the Holden Crewman, which was a four-door variant of the Commodore with a pickup truck bed out back. While this layout is nothing new to our friends Down Under, what is unique to the Denali XT is its powertrain, and it provides some interesting hints as to what we might be seeing in this and other vehicles from the General. Read on to find out more.

Drive have a story on the GMC badged ute they designed. Odds on this concept will be at the Sydney Auto show to take attention away from Orion.

I hope that all holden do is whack a Lion badge on that gmc for the melbourne motor show. I hope that is all they do, however i somehow irrationally doubt it.
its just that when holden are talking so "big" im worried that they might actually deliver on their own hype. I know the 20th anniversary clubsport was a total let down, but WHAT IF??? what if this time they unveil a hybrid diesel production torana with 400kw, 800nm of torque, zero emmitions and put it on sale for 15 grand each??? Is anyone else like me and have a totally irrational fear that holden might do something so devious, cunning and amazing such as this that it totally deflates the orion launch??? I know its probably unlikely, but i have a phobia of holden coming up with such an amazing car and then secretly selling it at a loss just to kill the orion buzz. Im half expecting holden to pull another HRT427, ie, say that they will produce it even though in reality they know they cant ,a, make the technology work and ,b, sell it for less than 1 million dollars each. Then 6 months later they will cancel it sighting unforceen horoscopic circumstances, but have succeeded in totally ruining the public perception of orion. Maybe its just because im so excited for orion that i dont want anything to spoil it. we all know that holden are far better than ford in playing the media to their advantage and i wouldnt put anything past the company that employs rick kelly. |
