Power is upped from 150 kw to 175 kw, and torque from some 300 nm to 400nm. Now that would provide some cut and thrust squirt in dissecting through the daily traffic.....

Old man's Fiesta ST was optioned up with the Mountune options package from dealership- the sales guys didn't even know it was an option.
Then they discontinued it with the MK8 which is a bit lame. |

The stage 2 involves a tune, bigger intercooler and air intake cone piping, with no need to do dpf delete or exhaust mods etc so is legal. Power goes up from some 200 hp to 260/270 hp- so from 150 kw to about 195 kw, and torque as noted to 400 nm which is stupendous in a small car. Have seen one 2 up do 0-100 in about 5.8 seconds, which is impressive given front wheel drive traction issues and the naff short gearing requiring 2 changes to 100. But more impressive is the in gear pull and acceleration during driving, is seriously fast and outdoes some very serious other performance machinery. My only concerns to do it would be longevity of engine, and chewing through front tyres (already with standard power I am chewing through front passengers wheel driving with nannies off).

Just as I thought Puma was on a roll this news came out yesterday :(
Why doesn't the Ford Puma get a full five-star rating in the latest official crash tests? https://www.which.co.uk/news/article...s-aIMx00C2saHT

Missing a centre air bag. Puma was resubmitted for Euro crash tests to keep it going till 2028.
Exiting models sold can keep the 5 rating till next year. It’s all a bit bizarre and disappointing as I just bought one. I ll post a review in the next week or two. |

Continually moving the goal posts is all just silly when cars suddenly drop stars for no sane reason. It should stay the same rating till it cops a refresh/facelift/new model so that the manufacturers can build to the standard of the day, not building it to a standard that they have no idea what it will be in 5 years time. |

If Puma is dropping down to 4 stars like Prado, I wonder if that'll hurt Ford the way Prado's 4 stars is suggested to hurt Toyota?

Honda HRV also four star same types of issues.
Maybe small cars today are finding it harder to meet the 5 standard. Big vehicle bashes up small vehicle scenario. Like the Ranger that tail ended my Skoda Fabia and wrote it off. |

Ahh yes the 5 star conundrum... Two five star cars have a head on. The bigger 5 star car lives, the smaller dies. Star rating is only applicable to same class of vehicle. A 3 star Landcruiser hits a 5 star Fiesta, Landcruiser gets a few broken ribs, Fiesta driver gets a wheelchair and enema every morning. Simple physics, F=MA . (*dumbed down for the rednecks) Halve the length of the bonnet and you double the forces of impact on the occupants. Halve the mass and you double the impact on the occupants. Small cars suck but most of us already knew that aye?

What you have to account for is time and forces created through deceleration in an impact, and in a simple sense for instance decelerating from 100 kph to 0 in 0.1 sec will produce much more force on you than decelerating from 100 kph to 0 in 5 seconds. So in your example, if you are in a car with a 2 metre bonnet compared to a car with a 1 metre bonnet, and they had identical construction and linear deformation characteristics, and both cars slammed an identical element at the same speed, then the car with the 2 metre bonnet would give double the time over which deceleration occurs resulting in far less impact force on the occupant than an occupant in a 1 metre bonnet. So time is a factor over which deceleration occurs, and in a collision between 2 vehicles, there are other factors at play including respective mass and structural integrity to prevent penetration injuries. But you are using the wrong equation misapplied for your points, and a bit more physics is needed to unpack what you are trying to say.

This is just the beginning. Cars as we know them are dying a swift death. I'm not anti-EV, but fewer and fewer cars on the market are interesting me.
SUV? I'll stick with my F6X. Maybe, one day, a Mach E... but even then, I'm never selling any of my ICE-powered vehicles. R.I.P. little Fiesta. |

ANCAP is definitely flawed.Less one star is actually a drop in the ocean.Cars with a 4 star rating are not any less safer than a 5 star one.

Thats a good thing for a lot of folks though ill agree. Theres plenty of other companies that do better packages for these cars (warranty voided i know) Dreamscience/Revo etc. That said theres been a lot more horror stories with the EB engines than the old 5 pot Volvo. There was not a chance id have tuned my old Focus ST My XR5T had a Dreamscience tune and it was amazing
