Apparently it was Chinese state backed hackers, who are furious with Mack Hortons comments and also Australia's recent comments regarding the South China Sea. The attach was successful and did force the shut down of the site, however we as a nation will rebound from this setback largely due to our incredible leadership - its a good thing the Chinese dont attempt to steal our leaders.....

PS China if you are reading this our leaders reside in Canberra

Not only that, the fact that the deadline was mid September to complete the census form was not advertised or promoted prior to the meltdown.

I think its great.
As mentioned on page 1 of this thread, I spent weeks arguing with the ABS that they are wrong when they say they can guarantee all the information they are asking me to supply is safe and confidential.
Still meant that had I stood my ground and refused to supply the info, I would be $1,000's in debt now due to their $180/day fine, but I look forward to next months phonecall from them.

no wonder some pollies are refusing to put there name on it.

i read somewhere that the censes encryption software was dated and it was considered insecure by experts, i guess they were right.

Couldn't give two hoots if the chinese know my address, what are they going to do with it? The amount of crap i've bought of Ebay from China im sure they have it anyway.

It's the same as when i went to a certain country and they said don't use your mobile phone as it will get hacked. They won't find anything so why do I care.

Privacy died a long time ago. Govco told us it was necessary to get rid of it for security purposes.

There is one big difference between Facebook and the census and other instruments like it, you can choose not to have a Facebook account.

do you own a car? is it registered? do you have a licence? do you work for wages and pay tax? are you an employer with ABN?
