I think whole-of-life costs aren't thought of enough.

I've been doing the maths on getting a runabout... Toyota Corolla @ 2.9% finance, with capped price $120 services for first 60,000km.

The combination of both the low finance and the reduced service costs is pretty high up there for me.

But then... if you're on a novated lease, does it make a difference? ASll these damn figures and questions. They just keep going round and round in my head!

Just joking Flappist.. But seriously mate if your going to use examples please disclose all information, not just some of it, because it can be very missleading.
Almost every situation I talk about on here is hypothetical and just throwing ideas around.

Interestingly accountants are the sworn enemies of car enthusiasts.

It is accountants who kill off all the "interesting projects" in manufacturers and every single time I and almost everyone I know has gone out to buy a performance car (including all my FPVs) both the accountants I employ as well as all of the ones I know professionally or socially (including a couple who work in car dealers) say I am mad, wasting money and should be buying second hand bubblemobiles.

So really, if FPV want to sell more maybe they should send out assassination squads to accountancy practices.....

OT, lower finance and a loyalty program is common sense, hence why FPV dont have it. People, even though some dont realise it, are taking a huge leap of faith when buying a FPV. Yes it gives good bang for buck but thats about all they have going for them when you look at other modes of transport for the price.

This, and the supply/service chain really needs to be looked at.

Well, they certainly are the sworn enemy of a poor financial argument. Do you employ accountants to do the job they are employed for, or to justify the poor decision you want to make as the best use of the businesses resources? You could just employ yes men/ladies and pretend they are accountants. Their job is not to give you what you want, its to tell you how to make the most of the money you have, and how to minimise the amount you pay the taxman once you make said decision.

Manufacturers employ, wait, no really shareholders employ, accountants to make sure the business is getting the best bang for its buck, in that case it is return. Im sure a new blown big block coupe (insert whatever floats your boat here) would appeal to many, and bought by few. The cost spread over the entire offerings lowering overall sales and failing to recoup the initial investment to boot.

Sounds like your accountants are doing their job.

Hi Flappist, after our interaction regarding FPV GS /brakes and V8 sales in general,
I went off and did a bit more research about what's happening in the market.
I now realise how far out of date my opinions on V8 buyers really are and
while Holden/HSV has sold about 9,500 V8 car so far this year, Ford/FPV
have bee down around 2,500 I-6 Turbos and around 700 V8s.

Given that Ford builds to market expectations then it looks like most V8 Ford
buyers have now moved on to other products be they Ford, FPV or elsewhere.

I know this thread is about financing FPV but wondered given your background
behind the scenes with dealerships, would you care to give your opinion on what
has happened, why and where the market is heading in the future...
