On the other hand Ford did not update their wagon and then killed it of. Same could be said about the V8 option along with a long wheel base anything. It was Ford that engineered the position they are in and nothing to do with Holden. No point chucking rocks at Holden for having a bigger line up for customers to choose from and then calling unfair play. Quote:
So it begs the question, are we looking at this the wrong way?, if the Falcon is on the nose to the general buying public in Australia, should Ford now be looking deep into its arsenal of cars to change the fortunes of its woes in Australia, is there anything else in the world of Ford that could make a big impact in here like the Cruze or are people still pinning its hopes on the Falcon? Apart from drive or handle like a car made this century should... Have to be fleet sales, as nobody would drive one by choice would they :-)

Government (federal and state) only purchased 34,000 passenger vehicles last year (one of the lowest on record). Thats 2833 a month. The Fed policy is Quote:
Holden = Commodore, Berlina, Calias, Caprice, Statesman, and Cruze Toyota = Petrol Camry, Hybrid Camry and Aurion Table 2 has Ford= Fiesta, Focus Petrol, Focus Diesel, Mondeo Wagon Petrol, Mondeo wagon diesel Holden = Barina, epica, Captiva Toyota = Yaris, Corolla, Prius. I would hazard a guess that Government purchases of any of the cars above amount to no more than a couple of hundred of each, each month. |

But lets compare an FG XR6 Egas to a 2011 Cruze FG 1 XR6 Egas CO2 emissions 240 Green House rating 5.5 Air Polution Rating 5.0 3 Stars rating FG 2 XR6 Egas Claimed CO2 emmission between 204 - 211... Rating unknown Series 2 Cruze 1.8 Auto CO2 emissions 175 4 Stars Green Rating Series 2 Cruize 1.4T Diesel Auto CO2 emissions 164 4 stars Green Rating We have to remember with all the talk of a carbon tax fleet operators will be looking for cars that emit the least amount of emmissions. I would say the Cruze will do better then Falcon expecially with the different in CO2. Maybe Ford should have built the focus here, coz I have a feeling Holdens going to go gangbusters with the Cruze thanks to the Government support! |

Cruze aint canabalising commodore sales, its just canabalising epica sales
Holden Cruze 2,582 2,514 Holden Epica 68 206 Those combined Broadmeadows numbers Falcon 1457, Ute 469, Territory 599 = 2525, are worrisome, in that they would not be high enough to dent the current stock levels, even with a reduced manufacturing schedule. |

Thats if they can get them out to dealers (they should have been selling them by now) LPi will give them 400 - 500 sales across Falcon sedan and ute... I predict August will see Falcon Sedan 2000 units Falcon Ute 950 units Territory Wagon 1300 units which should see them back in the black but really they need 5500 - 6000 sales a month to continue manufacturing. |

To do that and reduce current stock levels, sales would have to increase to: Falcon: 2200 Territory: 1300 Ute 1100 That makes 4600 meaning the backlog could be cleared at roughly 500/month x 6 month = 3,000 vehicles gone. |

Considering most LPG purchases in the past were Wagon / Utes, Ford no longer builds a wagon, yes theres LPG sedans and Utes, but with the increasing cost of LPG many people are looking at alternatives, e.g. Diesel Mondeo's or Diesel Rangers. I reckon LPG probably equated to 75% of wagon sales, if not more, and we all know wagons = 400 cars a month (well they did towards the end). Thats 300 less gas cars that are no longer going to be ordered. So even though gas will pump sales, theres not going to be an increase to the amount we have seen in decline over the last 12 months. That added with the fact that lots of Fleet customers have to change to alternative manufacturers due to a lag in Ford releasing the new LPG (yes its nearly been 12 months since they could physically build LPG cars), then this creates another problem. Will these customers come back to Ford? Or are they happy with where they have ended up? |

I'll give you 2000 Falcons. 1300 territories, but cant go any higher than 600 Utes. The commodore and Falcon Utes are slowly being eaten up by their crew cab 4x2 opponents. Thats 3900 in a good month, and those good months (if they happen) are still a few months into the future. From memory of reading one of the newspaper articles, it indicated Ford had amassed 120 days of local supply. I assumed at the time, they were meaning 4 months of 3000 = 12000 cars. The worrisome part comes in, because somehow they need to feed these 12000 through the system, at the same time of trying to sell the new territory and Falcon to try and maintain a 4000 sales month. |
