Unfortunately FPV want money not human sacrifices.

If you want a coupe get one custom made, It will only cost you $120,000.

Or do you actually want a nice low kilometre three year old one for $10k due to their crap resale.....

Why not grab a nice new Mustang?

Pity no bastard would buy them and Ford would have wasted precious development funds on it they could have spent on something that would actually sell.

I did notice that Thanks George, I was just confused as there was no other reference before Polyal's post. Perhaps I just need more sleep

And yes, it is great to see that Ford representatives are on the forum and are passing on information for forum members to see

Correct. I am looking at this situation from a business owner who understands "buy-outs" and i guess, only time will tell.

The only way the bean counters at Ford get their investment back is to SELL cars that customers WANT in a volume that will RETURN their investment. If Ford continue to sell the exact same FPV's or lesser FPV's at the same price............then their investment was money in the bin as no one would see value in buying one if FPV's current sales continue to slide.

If however, as others here have stated, that the buy-out was for peanuts, then it only makes sence to build value packed FPV specials.

If however, as i predict, the FPV name becomes less of an important marque, and Ford's purchase was more focused on stockpiling FPV's engineering, then it only makes sence that they flog them off at a price that is both profitable and also successfull. The current FPV GS has an rrp of $56 k. If Ford supplied the GS by starting with an XR6, no GS stripes, the 315 engine and called it XR8, i dont see why they can't shave the package to $52 k, considdering no FPV involvent, no FPV "added value" margin or the pressure of returning the investment Prodrive made on the Miami engine.

Her join date is August this year, while she may have been lurking on here for a while she has not been interacting. She (ford) should be far more involved with this site.

While off topic I was referring to her involvement in Ford PR, AFAIK she is very experienced. Ford have been lurkers for a long time, its a tricky game to play being "officially" involved.

52k + on roads will still take it north of 56k or thereabouts.
An XR6 with a big engine for 56k will not sell. You only need to look at the response to the current GS as a product to see the wingeing about its interior and brake package etc etc......

If badged as an XR8 - it will need to sell against SS so it will need to be on par with pricing. What's an SS dunnydore sell for these days ....45k + orc

Sorry, must be a mix-up in the transaltion. What I meant the price would come down by $4 k or more.

Currently, Ford have the XR6 Turbo "limited edition". Basically, an XR6 Turbo with Leather Seats, 19" rims, reverse camera. $47 k drive away. Now if that same vehicle had only the Turbo engine removed and the GS engine fitted, then how much would the change over be?

The SS is selling at bugger-all profit, it has been well noted. I would pay $52 drive away for this XR8 but not $56+orc.

SS is a profit queen, it costs them no more to build than a SV6.

Sad to hear the job losses hopefully they can find employment soon.

Just out of interest, do you have any sales data to back this bold comment up?? I can't find anything in the tech area or on Google search for 2012. In the tech section 2011 sales where up 47% (to 1,649 units) on 2010. There was an article on go-auto recently that FPV want to crack the 2000 per year mark.. So I'll come to my main point, what sales slide???

Where is the V6 manufactured? Isnt the V8 from Mexico? Might actually be cheaper than the 6.

Yes, now, with the strong Australian dollar. But how much profit was in an SS for GM-H back when the XR8 was still available?

Holden did, about 6 years and who knows how many of thousands of units sold ago. Long since paid off.

Which totally new supercharged V8 did Holden do?

Or do you mean the same basic engine they have been using for 15 years.

There was once an XR8. It was the same price as an SS or XR6T.
It did not sell very well so it was dropped.

On topic, I don't see this as good news at all. My gut tells me they released Prodrive from their commitments before something very embarressing happened like Prodrive deciding to shut the doors at FPV. As 51% owners I suspect it would be within their power to do so. Fingers crossed I am wrong and it isnt a face saving decision.

It's good news, and it's a face saving decision at the same time. Ford want FPV to continue as there halo models, Prodrive want out and they are losing stacks of money in there overseas operations and have bigger problems so to speak.

There are definite manufacting advantages less double handling etc. The concern is that the general conservatism at FoA will take the sparkle out of the range..

Let's hope so. FoA have released a lot of cracking good products in recent times. Fiesta, Focus, Mondeo, Ranger, Ecoboost falcon, even the 5.0 FPV's. Are great cars. So it's quite possible this could turn into a great thing to.

It was a concern not a fact.
