I would have said the DFV by a country mile, but since it wasn't available I chose the 355 Family.

i voted clevo,
of course the 427 cammer is the 'best' performance stock motor built. but there were too few made to really be dominant.
clevos and cammers are the best cuz they were both banned from nascar,, YAY that makes em cooler

i love the 351 clevo and also the 351 windsor but voted for the old Boss302 as i had one years ago and its the only motor ive seen or heard that used to rev clean to over 8000rpm on my tacho and nothing compares to that sound off 3 inch dump pipes and the ground shaking under your feet, but then, an old mate in Victoria used to come around the corner 60yards up the street and my windows would vibrate louder and louder till he got to my driveway,it was an old single spinner with a 428bb, god those late 70's and early 80's were the days i loved no hassles from cops unless you ****ed them off doing something stupid in front of them.i dont think you could even put a big block in a single spinner these days.

What a ridiculous post.

You can't compare the Barra/Copperhead turbocharged DVCT inline six against the might power and history of the Ford V8s

That is a silly as comparing IRS against the best leaf spring rear suspension, or Yokahama ADVAN 103s against the best cross ply tyres or direct port injection against the best carburettors.
Technology always advances but if there were never clevos or windsors then there would not now be I6Ts and we would all probably be driving FWD 3 cylinder slothmobiles......

The Ford V8s have a magnificent history and should be treated with the respect they deserve............

As the title of the thread says The KING of Ford V8's then you have to go to the start of the bloodline and say the Flathead.
It may not be the most powerful or sound the best but from '32 to '53 it ruled supreme.

Probably the best sounding engine I've heard is the tripple carb Offenhouser Flathead V8. I love ancient engines. Theres something very appealing in them.

Boss 429 for me! Although i did ponder the answer for a while due to the significance of the mighty clevo.
However, i always dreamed of my then XA sedan being Boss powered.....
I dont consider the flatheads and y blocks etc to be the kings, they are the forefathers!

Show me any other Ford motor that has so few cubic inches for such a large external volume.

Modular me thinks. Modern power and drivablility. As a new motor in Australia, its only going to get better. There is far more expected of modern engines and the mod motor fits the bill where the older generations did the job in their generation. There weren't too many Falcons in the past that could do anything below 14.5 1/4 mile from the factory and for the weight of the modern Falcon and its ability to do these times shows what a great motor the modular is.

the good old flathead gets my vote, so far ahead in its day it was invincible, crooks and cops alike would trust nothing else. it took till the 50s for cheverolet to catch up to the by then outdated flathead. all the other v8s had peers and/or competition but not the flatty so this in my mind makes it the grand daddy of all v8s, not only the ford ones but all v8s.

the windsors come second for me but not the 351 version as it took away all the good things about a windsor and made a great engine average at best.
