Polished glass is wonderful, you will be surprised at how much rubbish is bonded to the glass over time.

I hit the VS Commodore over the weekend as part of my detail with Meguiars glass polish applied with the Shinemate DA polisher - wow what a difference it made to 26 year old glass !

All came down to the equipment and polishes and of course the tips and tricks the DBF has provided over many years. Very happy with the results and so was my 82 year old mother who’s car it is

Be sure to watch a few videos first, you need to be careful not to focus on one spot for too long so as to manage heat. I also found I needed plenty of CarPro Eraser to help lift the CeriGlass residue.

I have a massive, massive archive of images amassed over the years. So while I may post something today about a certain product, it could have been used months or even years ago. I find having an image to support text really helps to visualize what I'm talking about.

I’m just about to order some products too from Waxit.

For good detailing videos I’ve found Car Craft & Pan the Organiser to be very easy to follow. In combo with the feedback from DFB we have it at our fingertips!!

I really like Car Craft videos, just very down to earth with strong reasoning. Pan on the other hand, I just can't take him.

He has been called out for this sort of thing a few times. He also had a habit of logging onto Autogeek, dropping his video content and then not contributing to conversations or helping others. He would then play the victim, labeling respected forum members who have offered countless hours of help and advice as bullies. So basically using the forum to gain views, build his You Tube revenue and fuel the gravy train of free products.

The above is something I am very conscious of when I consider making You Tube content. I don't want to start being influenced by free products, and have that skew my opinions. I also don't want to exploit this forum to gain views. I do all of this out of genuine interest in helping others, and in a way to help myself overcome my own demons.

In the future, I might make a list of channels worth having a look at.

Sorry for the delay, yes photo's would be great.

If the sun damage is clear coat failure, sadly it might be too late to bring it back in those spots. Photo's would really help here.

Otherwise, a decent polish will remove haze and bring some shine back to the finish. Again, I think some pics of where it's at would help with product recommendations.

My own fleet is spotless, in effect I am cleaning a clean car, dealing with a customer’s car is a different proposition. As for Pan, so far I have found his videos very informative and when he mentions products I tend to do local research on availability, pricing and so on.

I've also found his videos entertaining but I've been very targeted in what I watch so that probably explains why I haven't come across anything negative.

Interesting feedback, that's for sure, you're a treasure trove of information.

This is one of the main reasons I joined these forums. I'm not someone who's mechanically minded and am just starting to become more serious about my car detailing so for someone like me this kind of specialist enthusiast knowledge is helpful but also interesting to learn about.

I've been lurking on here for a little while but there's still so many rabbit holes I haven't gone down! I also see expanding my detailing knowledge as going towards preserving my own little slice of Ford Aus history

Looking forward to adding to this thread again real soon. Thankfully have just moved house, proper double garage (for my cars and stuff only) and proper driveway.

Still need to organise the car detailing gear (a trip to bunnings over the weekend needed). Will be attempting to take some inspiration where i can from DFB for organisation.

My previous room mate at our old place was mowing the lawn (as i was moving out, it was his first time in a year holding his own Whippa Snipper). Anyway he managed to spray grass all up the side of my just washed i30 and put a rock into the door with a dent...suffice to say very happy to have my own space again...

Needless to say the i30 is due!

Should be able to get the dent out via PDR I would think.

What do you have in mind regarding the storage of your detailing gear?

One of the problems I have in my garage is that it is not fully sealed. If it was, I would have had A/C installed, like, 10 years ago! This means I have some issues with dust, obviously dust and detailing don't really go together. That is why all my products, tools and microfiber are housed within cabinets.

The microfiber "collection" and polishing pads are also stored in sealed containers.

This means everything is clean and ready to use clean!

Is there a product out there that just cleans tyres rather than a tyre dressing? I wash the tyres obviously, when I wash the wheels, and at the moment just use car wash and the little chubby. Tyres do tend to start to fade or get stains on them, hence the market for tyre dressings, but is there something that just kind of cleans and rejuvinates the rubber?

I'm glad there was some chat on drying towels recently too. I have a Big Green Sucker and also am someone who isn't a massive fan. It works well, but once its water logged, thats it. Not a problem if just washing one car, but I'm often washing 2 cars, back to back, and it struggles to be able to do both well.

Basically, I just need more kit

So, just on the drying towels, the last time I used mine, it left white fluff everywhere. Even though the big sucker is green, and the smaller towel I use for door jambs etc, is yellow/grey. Now these don't get washed in any specific microfibre wash product. Just in the washing machine with normal washing powder, no softener etc. I don't think this is a problem though, as I've been doing that for years and no ill side effects. The only thing I've been doing differently, is spraying them with a bit of boss gloss the last few times. I'm assuming this to be the culprit, either not fully washing out, or reacting with the towel somehow. Many people use boss gloss as a drying aid though, so not even sure if that is the reason.

I first noticed it last wash, and now yesterday, it did it again, even though both towels were washed. My wife quickly washed the BGS while I washed my car (did her car first, and being white, it didn't stand out much... just did the glass afterward with clarify) and drying my car, I didn't bother with the boss gloss this time. To start with, it was the same, but by the time I'd done a few panels, it seemed much better.

Any ideas what could cause something like that. It also highlights that I need more than one towel.

Yes, there are specific tyre cleaners, and some that will do both wheels and tyres.

There are two products I use for this task, P&S Brake Buster and Shine Supply Wise Guy. If you wanted to stay in the Bowden's ecosystem, the closest they offer is Agent Orange. Meguiar's offer All Wheel Cleaner, but I feel those are un-economical to buy for what you get.

I grab P&S Brake Buster the most. This product is a non-acid wheel cleaner that doubles as a tyre cleaner. Brake Buster was designed to be used in a foamer, and also can be diluted. I do neither, which I will explain shortly.

Brake Buster comes in a couple of different sizes, and is often combined with a iK Foam sprayer as a package. Used in a foamer, it is diluted down to allow correct foaming. I however do not see the point in diluting it, as it's cheap enough to use at full strength, and in my opinion, if you are in the need for a product like this, why reduce it's power by watering it down? The standard 473 ml bottle has a foaming tip anyway, so buy that and refill with a gallon when you run out.

Spray directly on the tyres, and the wheel arches if you need, and agitate with a stiff bristle brush. You will notice the tyres turning brown almost instantly, once you start brushing the product will foam up. Rinse well. Sometimes it may be nessary to repeat the process a few times, however once the tyres are "clean", maintaining them will be much quicker in the future.

This basic, cheap looking brush is the best tyre brush you can buy. (Detailing Shed also sell Brake Buster if you want to combine your order.)

Brake Buster can also be used to clean your wheels too. Un-diluted it will strip any protection you have on them though. Diluted, it's much milder but again, I would rather use soap for maintaining wheels, saving Brake Buster for when extra grunt is needed.

The second product I use is Shine Supply Wise Guy.

This product is sold as a concentrate and MUST be diluted. In which case, you will need a spray bottle as well, which Waxit sell as a kit. Wise Guy is very strong, and while it can be used on wheels, I tend to just keep it reserved for tyres. This product doesn't foam quite as much as Brake Buster but it is certainly a stronger cleaner.

I have had issues with this product killing sprayers, so I'm now using it in a pump sprayer. I persist with this product due to it's cleaning ability.

This is what a clean, stripped bare tyre should look like, using Brake Buster in this case -

What you will find after cleaning a tyre is that the dressing applies much easier and looks much nicer. This is after dressing with CarPro Perl -

If it were me, I would be getting a 473 ml bottle of Brake Buster to see if you like it and then order the gallon.

I'm inclined to think you may have a linting towel here, which can happen. In which case, demote it and don't wash it with other microfiber to avoid contaminating those non-linting towels.

In terms of washing microfiber, it's ok to use normal laundry soap, although I would strongly recommend using a liquid rather than powder. You don't want to be inadvertently rubbing undissolved power across your paint. The risk is low, but every little thing helps when attempting to keep you paint swirl free. Before using a dedicated microfiber wash, I switched the household detergent over to liquid, and even had a separate small bottle dedicated to my detailing stuff.

For what its worth I have personally noticed that using standard clothes washing detergents significantly reduced my microfibre towels ability to absorb water. (I have a well meaning family member that washed them for me.

)

I only use a detergent meant for the task as linked above. You can bring back towels from the dead using them, but really not the same again.
