Did a job today that i had looked at and i knew it wasnt straight forward. And it wasnt. The 4 things i knew would be interesting, i chose not to plan because then my plans would fail. But i dunno how, but the apprentice and myself got very lucky with all of it. 1 void was sealed and had a beam in the way. So after 10 minutes of attempting this or that i sent the apprentice to do something else whilst i thought about it. Solved that. So when the apprenti comes walking towards me to ask for something to do and how was i going. I let out a massive Llayton hewit 'come on'. So smashed that job, did the job and knock so got out an hour early too. And the **** talking was grade A also.

A quick 300km burn up and down the Hume in the p van to check on my place.
Was expecting fallen branches, driveway weeds and long grass to cut but nothing. A quick tidy, drop some stuff off and back. Love that long legged 2.77 diff.

This is from yesterday...
Ran a Spring Ball for a bunch of kids in the local community who have terrible or non existent home lives (and aren't in any 'system'). Did everything from planning, organising, facilitating other teams to do certain jobs, buying/borrowing formal attire and decor, speaking at the event, clean up and lock up. Absolutely buggered but, kids, friends and families really enjoyed themselves. Totally worth it.

Every body works with that guy who jumps to conclusions and throws people under the bus. So this morning the job was relocate a set of mains. The bus throwing bloke explained how he wanted it to be done. Problem was the cables were too short. So he storms off carrying on. I looked at it and me and the boys re diverted the mains another route and they were now a foot too long so cut them back, job done. Old bus thrower saw that cables had been cut but didnt look in the room and clicked it and stormed off. 2 minutes later my boss called one of my colegues and absolutely roasted him for cutting the cables to short. Well, my colegue weathered the storm but replied the job was done. So my boss had a go at the bus thrower for wasting his time. So when he came back he said it was a good idea to which my standard response is of course it was, it was my idea. And the job was clean as hell, i didnt do the work, couldnt be bothered, but when i said its a really well done job, my colegue stole my line, he said, of course it is, i did the work. For going to work when i could be doing nothing (prefered) it was good having a laugh with the boys and its also extremely satisfying proving classic baz wrong.

Today early a road crew were outside my house painting up the road for works.
I reverse out and drive past a guy, chat to him about the day and what they were doing, another guy runs up and joins the conversation- then moves to my car. Appears the guy who ran up is a Ford guy, and he was just standing there staring at the front end and brakes, and the supervisor then comes up to get them back to work. Taking the hint I pull off and say to them- "have a nice day" The Ford guy responds "I will now that I have seen this car"- and he meant it in all sincerity. Made me feel good. Anyway when I pulled it off I opened it a bit for his benefit, and then gave it a boot around the local lake S bends which would have reverberated up to the peninsula he was working on. Driving my car as a daily I take it for granted- sometimes need a little reminding that it is a piece of Australian Ford motoring history.

About 1 1/8” so far here (Syd suburbia) today. Wishing for a bit in the Riverina.
The intellectual heavyweights running next door’s building site chose to ignore the forecasts - it will cost them another day of 3T digger time when the rain ends, to scrape the footings clean/dry and another easy 75mm of concrete in the trenches. |

Tomorow im probably going to get a call from my ex wife reminding me that im an idiot. Anyhow. Tonight i went for dinner with my kid, mum and grandpa. My grandpa is a ball of worry about my grandma as she is in respite after an operation. He also is still upset about my dads passing. So grandma is doing really well after an op at 92. But still, grandpa worries. Anyrate, after dinner, my kid and i play silly games. Yes im the responsible parent, but being a younger parent, provided my kid isnt being silly, we get along as brothers. So we shared pizza and pasta, so we got a takeway box for the rest of the pizza and the little unit can take that for lunch tomorrow. My kid wasnt paying attention, he was sitting to my right so i did the sneaky to turn it into a game and wrote food on the box. Well, with my right hand. Im left handed, but if its not running writing, i can do it right handed. So that started the game. My kid, even though he is 10, cant do running writing either, dunno if he is retarded as i haven't got him tested, but his right handed writing is extremely close to my wrong handed writing. As a side note, i did lose all function to my left hand for a while so out of neccesity i did have to learn to write with the wrong hand. So the kid followed with 'is good!'. Again, the little unit got back into games on my phone so i wrote another wrong handed line. 'Cant get fat without it!'. When my boy finally read that, he got cross. My grandpa kicked in being the lovely dinosaur he is, and my kid slid the box his way saying 'look what dad did.'. My grandpa read it, and for the first time in weeks, it was the first genuine laughter i have seen out of the old bloke. I swear every genuine moment with a really old person buys them another year. And my wrong handed hand writing is the same as a childs, and the childs statement is true, so is mine. Food is good! You cant get fat without it!

Made it to Sydney from Wangaratta on the XPT in one piece. No flooding at Wagga, no carriages coming adrift from sink holes, no running out of diesel at Moss Vale not late, in fact 10mins early.

Finally had a slower day at work so i could make time to do stuff like clean a bit out of the back of my car, take up the offer of going for a coffee with a client instead of always having to run to the next job, clean out a store room, take a normal lunch break with some of the work boys. All the stuff i never seem to have time for. Its been about 6 months since my last cruisy day at work, so whilst i still had jobs to do, i wasnt under any time preassure.
