You could make a shed that had a small kitchen and bathroom that was "open plan" and have a covered "Alfresco" eating area. Onced it's passed you can do a bit of creative modifications to get your garage and carport. If you have been around the building game for a few years it's amazing how adaptable or open to interpretation some applications can be. Sent from my LG-M700 using Tapatalk

Our court is bogan central, we have cars everywhere, directly across the road has 8+ cars kicking about the front and there's 5 of us in the same court with very loud V8 Commodore/Caprice and someone else has a freakin' loud 1960s V8 Impala wagon
We're doing our bit to keep property values low for first home buyers. Looking forward to my $25K 'Scomo Spondoolies' - should buy a nice BBQ for my kitchen, I've already picked out my sink: https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/...re/284715.html Wait, I don't even need a sink I'll just use paper plates and plastic cutlery and throw em out. I've known people who never get found out and sell etc no issues, others get found out and just forced to do the application and fees as they should have, and also some fined etc Best do the right thing of course but it's certainly a grey area imo. |

Haha, I have plenty of room if I wanted to go that way, but my missus says we have too many cars now. She doesn’t care if she cant see them. My plan was for a double garage top left corner of our yard, and a car port beside the garage. I was hopeful the stimulus would be a like a dollar for dollar contribution up to 25k. Ah well. |

So what happens with the grant if you have a change of circumstance and don't move into the house? I assume you either don't receive it or you would have to pay it back?

But guess what? The reason I have it is cause I don't peess it up paying the local tradies who have tickets on themselves...and most have never seen a recession (reckon they are worthover $1k a day) The govt knows there are people out there that are just sitting back and waiting for the next exciting episode of the ponzie scheme. |

I discussed this with the lads today... We think a registered owner builder is ok..... (If you are silly enough to pay 150k for a kitchen reno that's not your fault.......if you get my drift) |

All these stereotypes of the sexes And for every male who has had a bad separation there is a female who likewise has had a bad separation. This thread is about the high cost of housing. Please keep the various genres out of it, they're irrelevant. Keep your personal attacks to PM's.

I think housing prices will fall.
% depending on where. I can't see an increase. That's why I sold as I can't imagine my house being worth more in 12 months time than now. I may be proven wrong. |

Our housing market and by extension (no pun intended), the Australian economy was supported (propped up) by immigration. Immigration is over for the foreseeable future because of closed boarders due to Covid 19. No amount of government stimulus can replace the demand for housing created by an increasing population. It shows what a ponzi scheme it was to relying on ever increasing house values to keep the economy a float. It would be great to have visionary leaders that took the chance now to create a more diverse economy. We could manufacture great stuff the world wanted! Unfortunately I believe our elected representatives will wait until international Covid restrictions ease. Then we can increase immigration to levels that will drive demand in housing to drive prices up again. And we can sell what we dig out of the ground to try and get back to where we were. In the mean time, house prices are going to take a hit. IMHO

I'll add that any further off-topic posts will be deleted. I won't close the thread because of the behaviour of a few so bans may be handed out if anyone wants to continue.

We needed a good recession. A housing fall would be nice.

correct, in saying that I'd sooner still be in a mortgage than not but thats my opinion depending your circumstances.
I'm ready for anything especially to pounce in the future.

When my parents bought in 1955, my grandfather said to my father "why are you buying now, they're gunna come down". Guess wot.....
I lived through the '90s recession. Prices might have flattened-off for a few years, but there was no dramatic drop. The moral of the story is don't hang your hat on a magic 30% price plunge. It's not gunna happen....

There may not be any big drop, but prices definitely won't increase.
Only one way it can go it just depends on how much imho. |

My dear old dad used to say....
