The drive to 'bring forward' the second dose is political expediency and completely contrary to the current medic al evidence that has clearly shown 12 weeks as being the necessary time to ensure maximum effectiveness.
So now, the Government wants to reduce the effectiveness of the vaccine in an already more vulnerable (read over 60's) age group just so it looks better for them? Presumably, whatever miniscule logic is present will relate to having more people fully vaccinated, even if it is at a lower level of protection, is better than not having them fully vaccinated! .. and we let them run the country.

I hadn’t seen reference to where the “advice” was founded but did note its timing, right from the initial kite-flying some while ago. Surely it (full vaccination in a condensed timeframe) would mitigate the cases where there is psychogenic aggravation.

During Vic's 2nd lockdown there were no such requirements. If being tested meant you had to isolate, then you depended on people to do the right thing and officials to enforce check ups at home. I recall we had the help of the ADF to do door to door checks. I think it would be quite dangerous to create an enviornment where residents felt like they had to check up on fellow residents for things like testing and isolate.

Presently it is compulsory for us expats to have Covid insurance here (Roughly $2000 for us 2 per year)
No more if vaccinated… https://ticotimes.net/2021/07/09/cos...ated-travelers The catch for us is we don’t hold Costa Rican residency, so are ineligible for the jab (even if we offer to pay for it!) An option might be a quick trip to Florida where jab is available to anyone, plus choice of vaccine… Johnson & Johnson being a single jab, so done and dusted with a 2 day trip…

Data valid as at 00:00 GMT July 11th 2021.
Note: As not all Australian States report at the same time, the data below is based on the previous full day reporting. 85 new cases for Australia and 1 death so the CMR is 2.929%. That's the first fatality in 87 days and only the second this calendar year. 2 new cases and no deaths for NZ so CMR is 0.940% and active cases 34. The UK had a lower 31,352 cases yesterday and lower 26 deaths for a CMR of 2.508%. A lower 14,335 new cases in the USA yesterday and lower 115 deaths sees CMR at 1.794%. Other notable points: (weekend reporting) North America passes 41M cases; South America passes 34M cases; Africa passes 6M cases; Senegal (529) - the previous high on 23/7/20; Vietnam (1,983); Kazakhstan (3,695); Cuba (6,923) - the 6th consecutive day; Thailand (9,539) - the 6th consecutive day; and Bangladesh (11,874) ... all recorded new daily highs; those in blue for the second consecutive day and those in red for a third or more consecutive day. No countries move above the 90th percentile for the 10 day period while no countries drop below.

ehhhhh Removalist from Sydney travelled to Melb, worked in a few households, stayed overnight, went to SA, then back to Syd......all whilst infectious.
It will be nothing short of a miracle if Vic escapes another lockdown from this outbreak.

Is there a sweet spot? While research shows the AstraZeneca jab generates the strongest immune response when given 12 weeks apart, Professor Nolan said reducing that interval to eight weeks only reduced that protection modestly. "There's actually a curve that shows the optimisation of protection as you get to 12 weeks," he said. "The data shows that if you do move things back to say, eight weeks, it's not a huge amount that you lose." https://www.abc.net.au/news/health/2...oses/100259926 If this is right then moving the 2nd shot forward a month will give real short term benefits when they are needed. Drops off massively if less than 6 weeks, so it looks like that is why they are starting to suggest "after 6 weeks"

I went to Aldi at Bankstown yesterday and noticed that only 10% of people checked in. Several inside were real trendy in wearing their masks down below their chin. Walking out, a guy walked in with a huge grin on his face and his chest out. He had a 'I dare anyone tell me that I need to wear a mask' look on his face. $1,000 isn't enough of a fine. I know many that make that in a day. Bump it up to something higher and remove points of your licence. Then perhaps people may take notice. Sent from my SM-G973F using Tapatalk

This (not the short update table, but the long table slightly below) is the source, it doesn’t have an embedment link:
https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/Infect...nd-alerts.aspx There’s also links like this one from Aunty: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-07-...y-12/100285272 The table is updated when you expand it, rest of the article goes stale. |

I frequent many of this places on a regular basis. But always check in and out. I assume if there was any close calls for me I would have been contacted already for testing and isolation? I just got tested again today seeing as I live in a hot spot and my daughter returns to school tomorrow and me to work. Last time I got tested the results were sent to me around 6am the following morning. At least if anyone asks I should have something to show them. Sent from my SM-G973F using Tapatalk

Its worth keeping an eye on it IMO.
I’m a bit neurotic about checking that list (4-5 times per 24H), while I oppose many of the social strictures it’s 100% my responsibility to be informed and up-to-date. |

I take your point. It might not be a huge drop-off but any drop off is going to leave potential for less than optimum protection and I'd have though that the reason the guidelines are provided by the manufacturer is to provide a best case outcome.

It is a conundrum, leave it another month at 50-60% protection (1 shot) Or get a second shot now and get an extra 20 odd percent protection, albeit sacrificing the end game of an extra 5% Trying to make sense of the data, if I was in NSW now I would take the extra shot now, in other states (I am at 9 weeks now in VIC, and am booked for 2nd shot bang on 12 weeks) I would not. The risk equation is dynamic, day by day. If this blows up nationally, I would jump to asap to get my 2nd.

I've been able to forward my 2nd shot by 2wks, Aug 11 now. Hoping many more think the same in Sydney.

4th "incursion" detected in Vic. Family who migrated from Syd to Melb flew in on 6th July, tested negative 8th July, but are now positive. Commander Weimar not worried about the flight as they are not believed to have been infectious during the flight, and all passengers on the flights had a red zone permit so should be have been in self quarantine.
Meanwhile, they haven't released the exposure sites for the sydney removalists yet because their stories aren't "matching up" . Apparently have to check with employer who is checking fuel card records etc. Buckle up Victoria! Oh, and apparently Vic Gov asked for ADF assitance to man the borders, but was yet again denied.

Just for a bit of entertainment. Would be good to hear from the faceless "business leaders" at some stage just to add to the drama. Noticed that the claim is KRudd spoke with the global head of Pfizer, whereas this rebuttal statement has come from Pfizer Australia. KRudd himself has been noticeable silent on the matter. Malcolm Turnbull came out this morning thanking KRudd
