I'd say for a lot of people, this XR8 is a discretionary purchase, i.e. they don't *need* a new car, but would like a new XR8. If Ford or their dealers make it too hard, people will just walk away, because they don't need the car.

For me, it's discretionary, nostalgic and passionate. I very nearly walked and pulled the pin too. Today my dealer finally came good with May delivery. I'll hang in there now.

Yep definitely discretionary purchase. However it's the last of a great nameplate. If you can't wait then fair enough. If your circumstances change then also fair enough. Everyone will have their own reason for grabbing one or not. However, don't whinge about it when it's gone and we hear the would have, could have, should have excuses coming out. Take away the positives is that a lot of people are hearing about their delivery dates and this should now start to give some certainty.

Dealers and Ford making it not worth it. I went into my dealer to demand a delivery date and they tried to hike the price by 7 grand! Hrs of negotiation I finally got my confirmed car and date, but I was within a whisker of walking away. Despite what I posted earlier I wore the 1k price wise but even then the dealer tried to say the hike was $1500. I understand that dealers need to make a profit on an in demand car but you have to honour the origin deal. If others are having my experience it's no wonder people are walking away. |

Agreed with the discretionary purchase sentiment.
Problem for Ford is that they are expecting customers to wait 6 months on a $60,000 purchase, keep loyal over that 6 months with the buy, and then near the end of the wait period seek to vary the price. So, one party is being held to their side of the bargain for half a year, while the other side seeks to move the goalposts. Sure the contract may say price can be varied by dealer due to circumstances ie manufacturer charging more, but there seems to be an inequity here if a dealer does seek to vary the price in such circumstances, both by Ford (through their agent the dealer) given they made an initial bargain and inducement, and the dealer- especially more so if the dealer attempts inflationary gouging..... From my end if the dealer sought to vary the price and gouge in any way greater than the fully disclosed increase by Ford, given the time they have had my deposit interest free, I would walk. And, quite frankly, would never look at the Ford brand again. Ford should take care of customers who have loyally paid an interest free deposit and waited 4 months odd, by keeping good to the initial represented price made through their agents the dealer, which induced the deposit to be paid. And Ford should control dealers who are rogues attempting to vary contract prices by profit gouging. Ford needs to manage this one- especially if they want present purchasers to later on perhaps "upgrade" or continue purchasing Ford products. From my end if I perceive that Ford itself or through their agents are profit gouging in such circumstances I will say goodbye to the brand and look for other pastures.

^^^ I tend to agree. I believe this will be my last Ford purchase as well.
Unless the mustang is truly inspirational and priced accordingly. That I doubt.

Not a good look for Ford. Looks like they still need to work on their dealers.

I've been nothing but satisfied with my experience from my dealer so far, Maybe i'm lucky because I dont want my car till after July, when we get home from a trip to Canada, so I guess my "waiting" will commence then.

Did you get anywhere with the hissing noise coming from the rear speaker issue? I just picked up my XR8 today and I noticed it doing that straight away. It doesn't sound right at all. Love to know if you found anything out. Cheers, Geoff. |

As a young guy I bought fords and became used to high powered vehicles that overwhelmed the chassis. I am older, and now have more cash. I have my own business, and when my 2 kids leave me in a few years, I want to get a really sports focused vehicle that makes the nether regions tingle. So, now I could roll for a german brand, but because of my early nostalgic history, and appetite for overpowered fords overwhelming chassis and that Ford rawness I have decided to go XR8. After this, once the kids are gone in about 8 years, I am aiming for a vehicle like the current mustang with the flat plane crankshaft engine, which has that "Ford" rawness, or a Porsche Cayman GT. Thing is, if Ford goes sharp practice and flaky on me and tries to up the price, despite having my deposit for 4 months, and me intending to make good my bargain (even though I thought I paid some $1,000 too much for the vehicle) I may just terminate. I will then sit on my current ride for another 6 years, and then roll for that dream sports car. And do you think Ford will register in my reality. In my profession there is a saying, takes a lifetime to create a reputation, and 1 case to destroy it. Ford should pay heed, holding the customer on the line 6 months, and then relying on a clause to up the price, is sharp practice and in my books is a reputation shredder. What is the value Ford of your reputation to a customer who has a further 17 year window of potential purchases?

Sheesh, why would XR8 owners have the radio switched on when there are lots of nice noises being emitted from the car itself?
But yes, not good. |

Hey it's progress. They've managed to move the hiss from the front to the rear. If there was a future Falcon it'd probably eminate from the engine bay.

Yes mate, I took the car into the dealership and had the noise issue with the rear speaker checked out. The verdict is what they call "white noise" which is attributable to quality issues in the wiring harness. I was advised that Ford is aware of the problem and are looking into it but no answers yet. I do recall that there is a thread on this issue in this forum somewhere for the FG model ( I will stand corrected if I am wrong) so the problem has been around a while and it has carried over into the FGX model. Not happy myself about the issue so if anyone has any answers I would be glad to hear them. Sorry I could not help on this one. Cheers, Brent

The FG hiss comes from all speakers, even with the audio off.

Its the only speaker that amplified. So it does make sense.
