A timely reminder for everyone to please reach out if you feel like you are struggling. Call or talk to a friend, colleague, family member, person from a car forum, specialist service, life line, counsellor, etc. At my lowest I felt like a burden on everyone around me, this is not the case. A late night phone call is much much preferable to being notified of something tragic.

I was trying to dodge a call from my manager on Friday morning expecting the call to be asking me to work my day off due to storm activity. There were a few missed calls back and forth until we spoke. He was calling to inform me of the passing of one of the guys from work. I had worked with this guy off and on in different capacities for almost 15 yrs - me as apprentice under his instruction, me as worker alongside him and finally me as a work planner with him as a supervisor.

His passing has completely blindsided everyone at work and left many questioning if they should have noticed something in the weeks leading up to his passing. We are about to enter a tough time at work, but nothing compared to what his wife and kids would be feeling.

And to top it off I found out about the passing of another former work mate, a real character of the workplace. He was quick to put **** on people, but even quicker to help when needed.

This has been a pretty **** few days.

Sorry to hear fella. Nothing worse than hearing bad news to people we have come to know and respect over the years.

I recommend taking some time out for yourself to process whats happened and grieve if necessary. Bottling up grief on top of your own struggles just exponentially makes it harder to deal with.

I agree with you though, speaking to anyone who is prepared to give you a listening ear is the best therapy. Even if they cannot help but be there to listen.

Anyway, my thoughts are with you friend. Take care of yourself

Default Re: Depression, Anxiety

thanks guys.

I have had a quiet weekend shuffling around the house and tidying up, rain cancelled original plans and continued rain meant I haven't really wanted to get out much.

There was a 10 minute window of sun yesterday so i went on a 40 minute walk and have just got home from a quick walk with the dogs.

I would normally work from home on Monday but I will make the effort to get to the office to see everyone and support some people, providing the freeway doesn't seem too unsafe in the morning.

I am getting better at it but I still spend far to much of my life worrying what others think of me.

Mate that is by far the hardest thing to overcome I reckon. So you need to decide on a (small) circle of people that you actually will care about what they thought of you e.g. family, loved ones etc. Everything else is just noise. That doesn't mean you don't take feedback and criticism from others, but it is just their opinion and at the end of the day, it means as much as you want it to mean.

I know a number of friends who suffer from anxiety and depression, and this is a common theme. Caring too much about what other people think.

Having read some of your other threads, I'm going to take a stab and say you've probably been right more often than you've been wrong to get to where you are.

I like the theory of 'if you wouldn't go to them for advice, don't worry about their criticism' or something along those lines..

I'm still working on it as well though

Tried changing your diet?....or lifestyle? Easier said than done.

All that processed crap from the Supermarkets, mixed with dirty water/air, plastics etc, will eventually take it's toll. Vegetable/seed oils are so toxic it's not funny.

Drop the fruit and replace with low-carb vegetables. Lose the sugar, carbs and anything containing processed grains.

All other organs go into panic-mode from all the toxic and nutrient-deficient food we consume.

Your brain is also an organ.

Hi Guys,
Since COVID started a lot of people with Depression n Anxiety have suffered because they have been stuck inside and in lockdown.
I think myself Communication be it talking to people in person or on the phone helps more then you think and its so easy just to pick up that telephone and call a mate if you need too.

My sister passed away in feb this year and in October last year i wrote her a big e-mail and also sent some old Picture's i had of all my sibling's when we were all younger.

I got an E-mail a few day's later from her daughter ( my niece) and she said " you made mum so happy with what you sent thank you so much.

A simple thing as an E-mail can make a difference to a person who's feeling down and if you cant phone and chat or get things off your mind then send an E-mail to a mate or who ever and tell her or him how your feeling.

I remember saying over a year ago that when COVID is over i would like to meet some of you guy's over a meal.
To the guy's that live in Victoria i am more then happy to travel to Albury- Wodonga if that would help.

That's great you feel better mate.

Makes me wonder why I didn't get given medication as my BP was
220/150.

Might need to look into that as I'm 40, of normal weight for my height and never been under 180/120 since I was 25. Like ever.

Hey everyone,

Just a quick update. I know its been a while since I did one but a lot has happened since.

There is no nice way to put it, but yesterday my father in law has passed away. He was on life support from a recent fall. We had to make the difficult decision to turn off the machines due to other complications which are too many to mention.

Thats 3 men in my life Ive lost in 12months. My dad, my uncle and now my father in law.

Man, sorry to hear, that sucks. Can't remember how old you are, I think around my age?We are probably now at an age where we should expect these events to occur more frequently. It's just something we need to accept.

My brother in law's mum passed away yesterday too, she found out she had cancer only a few months ago, so "fortunately" it was quick. She had a niggling tummy ache on and off for 4-5 years, but didn't get a health check, and when she finally did, they found it was gal stones that had turned cancerous. Moral of the story, go for regular check ups. I haven't had one for about 10 years now, so it has certainly woken me up to go get them done more frequently.

Interestingly enough, my FIL had gall stones too which after a Stent lead to his demise. It was quick but we weren't expecting him to go within a week of the procedure.

Sorry for your loss also. Im 44 btw so while I expect it, I wasnt expecting so many in such a short amount of time.

Lost my FIL during early restricted covid April last year, only 10 fam members allowed, that hurt so much for he had 8 kids ! my wife was shattered and tbh still is.

Sorry to hear brother. It makes the situation so much harder during pandemic restrictions. I hope you were able to take some time to grieve with your family.

With regards to my FIL funeral directions, he didnt want one so we respected that choice. His view was that if people weren't bothered to call, visit or acknowledge him while he was alive, then why should they have the privilege at his death. Speaking primarily about 'friends' and acquaintances he knew over the years.

We've had an influx of visit from those who were actual friends. All of his family were back in England and his immediate family were right by his side for the best part of 20 years right to the end.

Really sorry to hear your news Blueoval.

I've just hit 43 and lost my old man and my mother in law in the last five months. As previously said we seem to be getting to that age. I know that doesn't take the sting away.

Dad was from the waste not want not generation, his shed is full of bastardized and cobbled together contraptions Mum and I often go out there and have a smile and a laugh and I'm building the legend of Granddad the great inventor to the nieces and nephews.

Remembering all the positives is really helping me out at the moment.

Hi guys
I lost my sister in Feb this year and i was at work when my brother phoned to tell me the bad news,
Too make it worse because of COVID we as in my wife and myself couldn't go over to New Zealand for the Funeral because the Boarders were shut.

It helped talking about it to my friends and other family members and of course emailing my sisters daughters.
I was given a few days off work so i did a lot of writing, got out in my car and went driving and took some pictures.

I think the trick is keeping busy, talking to friends and family don't bottle things up because it just makes it worse let it out and talk to people.

Im so sorry to hear mate. My deepest condolences.

I agree with you in keeping busy and talking about the person who has passed with family and friends. What I also think helps is talking about the good times you had with them with people who knew the person. It helps heal you as a person and you can keep the memories alive.

Hi All.

Its been a while and thought I would check in and just say.... "it will be Ok, no matter what you are going through, you will come out the other side"

Me... Im doing ok these days. Am I 'fixed'.. no.... am I 'better'.. yes.

I got to the point where I was exhausted about talking about it, trying to understand it and trying to get by. In the end I looked at what were my triggers and started to learn to recognise them.

I stopped with seeing the psychiatrist as I felt I was just going around in circles with him. There was nothing particularly wrong, I just felt I wasnt getting the same benefit from it anymore.

My last visit with my doctor I requested that I came off the Meds I was on but he wanted me to stay on them a little longer, which I didnt do as I felt it was more of a hindrance now. I did follow his advice about not going cold turkey on them and weaned myself off. over the space of a month.

My outlook on things has definitely improved and I have been able to deal with a lot of things in a rational and healthy way rather than the destructive way I was doing.

I still have moments of loneliness and doubt but no where near the point I was at previously and I do see a light at the end of the tunnel now.

Keep at it guys... you will get through it.

Hi all.
Thought I'd give an update as been a whirlwind few days.

Unfortunately I had a breakdown and nearly tried to.commit suicide 3am Sat morning.

Ambulance called and Police searched me as had a knife etc previously and Paramedics came.

Rushed to hospital and was straight into ER.

I've been in huge pain the last 6 weeks so drank a heap (3 bottles of wine a night) to get through it but it all became too much........

So scans were done and turns out I have broken ribs (from a fall when drunk) but more seriously I have Pneumonia.

I've had a lung sample (not fun) and turns out it's infected but hopefully will go away in a week or two.

Mentally I'm on all sorts of drugs including valium to stop the alcohol withdrawals which are scary as.

So long story short I'll be discharged soon from respiratory ward to mental health ward where I'll continue care for both alcohol and suicidal thoughts.

Thank you all for your previous support and I am using this as a massive wake up call to fix my life up.

Best of luck to all everyone with their own battles in life.

Day 5 now and feel on the right track and lucky enough to have a beautiful view of the Derwent river.

Bro, we are here for you to vent. So anything you need to get off your chest, please use this platform to do so.

So sorry to hear of your anguish and pain. It saddens me to hear you going through this alone.

I will say I appreciate you at least telling us whats going on even if you dont know us.

I hope you get some rest. I've had pneumonia twice before and its not a nice thing to go through. Take the time to process where you are and think about how this can possibly be a positive thing in the end getting the help you need. Use it to your advantage to help you.

Im always here to PM if you need to chat to anyone.
