Sorry to hear Merc T.... have read a bit on the use of CBD oil & alcohol withdrawal relief is one of many uses for it, that seems to work well for some....

Hi guys,
First of all I hope Mercury T i hope your feeling better.

After my first wife and i separated i was living in a small granny flat near Parramatta and one night just laying in bed and looking at the ceiling and thinking "how the hell did my life get to this".

I had a few very close friends, and of course my family, and a few close work mates that i would chat too and it helped a lot.
At night which i found the worst time for me i would go to bed at midnight and wake up at 3am every morning.

As bad as things were at that time for me i never ever thought of doing my self in or anything like that, it didn't even cross my mind. Instead of falling in a heap i decided to look after myself so i went out and brought a push bike and during the weekend i would ride around Parramatta Park.

I burnt up all that energy of just sitting in my granny flat, and started to get fit at the same time.
I learnt to cook nothing fancy, but just basic meals, Eggs, Vegs, Steak, Etc so i wouldnt have to buy take way so much.

I just kept busy and when i wasn't busy i was reading what other guys did after going thru a divorce and how they handled it.

I never got any drugs from my Doctor and just kept busy at work and then weekends out in my car, seeing my mates, and getting back to the real life instead of living like a hermit and not going out anywhere.

What i am trying to say guys in Talk to friends or family, get out and breath that fresh air, keep busy and try not to fall in that great big black hole.

Might circle back to this thread in a week or two

I am currrently using Efudix , plus i am getting Braces ( who knew) that shall be fitted in another 6 weeks... a nice $13K investment


Irritability, nausea and tiredness from the cream is affecting my ability to do nightshift properly, but as long as i can work safely when required i am keeping up a strong front !!


Except i look hideous.

I really dont have the urge for alcohol and that is a blessing, because i really dont have any desire to exercise either... although i did spend a couple of hours detailing my ride at 6am this morning.


Sleep is over rated anyway

Hope everyone is doing well.
I've just booked in for some brain surgery in two weeks.
This will be additional to some plumbing work I had put in almost exactly a year ago.

Hope this improved things, I certainly have my hopes pinned on this.

I've been in a pretty good space lately (if you discount my performance at work), 20mg of escitalopram and regular sessions with therapist.

Really struggling at the minute guys, lost my best mate of over 30 years at 3.20am Friday morning after what could best be described as a short but extremely brave battle that he could never win.
It sounds like a strange thing to say but he showed me how to die with dignity.

In real time the period from realising the gravity of the situation until he took his last breath seemed like an eternity, we certainly filled it with an enormous amount of laughter and tears, in reality it was less than 60hrs.
Im struggling to envision life without him as we did so much together, life will go on but will never be the same.

Rest now my friend knowing you are loved and cherished eternally.

I'm back on the downward spiral. The last week has been probably the worst I have felt for a while.

My default mode when I'm like this is to shut down and shut people out. My interactions with people are short and sharp, in a leave me alone type of way. This behavior then ruffles feathers and then I feel bad for loosing my composure and upsetting others. And so the cycle repeats and I feel like a burden to others. I just want to hide.

I'm tired all the time and everything feels like an effort. The combined stresses of my health, work, family and certain other struggles is leaving me with the question of what is the point of it all.

I don't really have many people to talk to about all this. I don't want to burden my family for the fear of making situations worse for them, or incur the wrath of a very un-sympathetic sibling who should know better in regards to mental health. I have the guiding wisdom of a neighbor and work colleague but that only helps so much, the internal dialog returns and the cycle continues.

I have a GP appointment tomorrow, I suppose I will be further doped up to make things bearable.

They say life is for living.

I'm feeling like life is for suffering at the moment.

Considered a major circuit breaker? As in a complete change in lifestyle or environment. Its gonna take a bit of guts, and I don't know your situation in detail (e.g. financial commitments etc), but if you are feeling like you are losing the fight, then you really have nothing to lose.

I'm talking about a BIG change i.e. move to a new area...heck move to a new state (I'd say even try a new country but obviously bad timing), change your job, move away from the toxic people / environment etc.

When I was consulting with various different mental health experts, there was one common theme they all advised, you need to change your environment. Apart from changing my mindset (mentioned in earlier posts) which has done enormous benefit, another change I made was stopped my weekend shenanigans. Gees it was bloody hard. Lost touch with a few mates because of it, but it has been well worth it.

If something doesn't work, try another. Nothing to lose, everything to gain.

Hey DFB, good you post up your feelings, whats the point of it all ? there is always one/s who care for you no matter the negative thoughts.
Even here never meeting you you have built up a connection with many so get that head re set - that classic saying it could be worse is so true.

I have an excellent GP who has been helping me for a few years now. Had an appoint with her today, hopefully I will see some improvement soon. The process is slow though.

I'm one of those people who dreads change, but clearly I need to do something.

This will help with some folks, not all. Could also put this in weight loss thread...

Change your diet. Get off the meds. Zero sugar/vegetable and seed oils/refined grains. 1-2 meals per day and don't snack! Skip breakfast and eat at lunch and 5:00 pm.

Get your gut-health right. Bad gut bad mind.

Get some sun really early in the morning when it's low in the sky (just over your fence) or late in the afternoon when it's about to set - skin cancer at those stages is rare.

Your liver is the most complex, hard working, compromised organ/filter in the known universe. It's where all the good or bad starts. It will fight for you like you wouldn't believe, until it's too late.

Go for long walks on an empty stomach in a non-stress environment.

If there is a certain friend of family member (no1 is perfect) that triggers you, avoid them.

Read the labels of your food and do research.

I'm not a Doctor. Always speak with your Doctor/shrink first and request regular check ups.

Diet is an interesting topic. Do people eat junk because they feel down, or do people feel down because they eat junk. Mental health issues are on the rise in younger people in this country, even pre covid. We need more studies to find the cause, is it the food? environment? what is it?

I never feel like eating in the morning, lunch, dinner and a late supper are my meal times, and has been like that for the last 20 years. I do find that when I go through my gym phase, on and off every 6 months, my brain automatically prefers healthier food.

The majority of young folk I know are basically bone idle, abysmal and lazy!
And usually pot smokers, not normal pot smokers but hydroponic pot, which to me seems unnatural and non organic, in fact I met a person who uses " growth hormone " to feed his plants!..like athletes or Chinese Olympic swimmers use!

I have 7 neighbours in my line of units, the oldest is 70 then me 68, the others are all on disability pensions, one lady is so overweight her knees can't support her, she's depressed, anxious and smokes cigarettes and hydroponic pot, in fact she can't stop smoking pot, its a worse addiction than my nicotine habit!

The others have various forms of "being on the spectrum??" all of them smoke hydroponic pot!
Another, well she's 43 and an ex junkie, been on methadone for 7 years!. wow that must of been some heroin addiction, she smokes hydroponic pot!

All 7 including me so that makes all 8 of us are on some form of antidepressant medication, mine for neuropathic pain, the pain makes me depressed and its 24/7 and wakes me all through the night, its supposed to stop my nerve pain, it don't do anything really.
But I don't smoke pot, and me and the older lady who don't smoke pot are both happier than those who do!

Funny that, 2 don't smoke pot and are happy, and six do smoke pot and are the most crotchety whining things you could imagine!..but only if they can't get "on".
2 days without pot and its unbearable here, my immediate neighbour likes to scream and bash walls and cupboards, the 43 yr old off pot accuses me of talking behind her back!

Makes ya wonder, these folk are the walking dead to me, they seem to have no soul, look em in the eye and there is nothing there, its vacant space!

I'm doing ok at the moment, but it comes and goes.

I figure it's a bit like surfing. When you're up on your board, the goal is ride it as long as possible, and when life dumps you and pounds you into the floor, just relax, hold your breath, and wait for buoyancy to kick in.

I found cutting out as much processed sugar as I can from my day to day life is helping me a lot. Not necessarily from a weight point of view, but also, less inflammation and for some reason, I don't feel anywhere near as mentally unstable as I used to be. It's a strange feeling but one I welcome.

Going cold turkey from sugar is not a good idea unless you also know of the side effects of doing that for the first few weeks. I recommend just removing sugar from hot beverages for a start will help. Then reducing alcoholic drinks or ones with a high sugar content is then next step. Again, not going cold turkey, but monitoring your consumption to perhaps a couple of low carb beers on a weekend or limiting myself to 1 or 2 shots of quality whiskey per weekend for me has helped no end. I used to drink nightly to cope, just so you know the changes I have made.

I have also changed my snacks from a large packet of Smiths chips in 1 hit to a bowl of grapes and a big glass of water to fill the stomach.

Just little changes like that I have noticed a positive reaction.

Occasionally I will splurge on something decedent but not anywhere near as much as before when I was eating my feelings.

Anyway, take as much or none of that as you will. But I think small incremental changes in diet do play a part in your mental stability.

Awesome, that's really good to hear its had a positive impact. I went off sugar about 8 years ago when I had a health scare. Nothing related to mental health though. I had a dizzy spell whilst walking home from work, doc ran a few tests, and was found to be on border line of diabetic. I then cut sugar out, pretty much cold turkey, got re-tested a couple of months later and levels were back to normal. I also drank a shed loads of green tea at the time to reverse the effect. That was also around the time when I had severe work anxiety, so I can't say it really did much for me mentally. Watch out for fruits though, I think people underestimate how much sugar they contain.

By junk I don't mean just the sugary stuff too. I put fast food into that category e.g. maccas, kfc, fish and chips etc. There are suggestions that some people turn to these "comfort food" when they start to feel down.

Same question with pot, other substances, alcohol, gambling etc...do these things cause mental health or do people use / abuse these things because they had mental health issues to begin with? The million dollar question.

100% on those aspects highlighted. Too much fruit is not a great thing either. It isnt like Im consuming a big bag of grapes, an entire pineapple, 12 apricots and 20 peaches in 1 week. More that I am now substituting the rubbish processed options for something less processed. Something with less calories so to speak.

Junk food is also one of my weaknesses too. Definitely love my fried chicken. But know deep fried foods are a heart attack waiting to happen. I turned to junk food a lot in the past 12 months as a comforter.

With illegal substances, I would say people mostly turn to these items for social reasons to start with. But they could be using these things as a crotch to escape from their reality even for a short time. But then it becomes a vicious circle after that. Ive never been a drug user. I dabbled in it as a teenager out of curiosity, but didnt like it.

One thing that really depresses folk is having no money?
And that is wether you smoke ciggies, drink grog or smoke pot, if you are struggling to pay ya bills then the ADDICTION comes first!..the bills come second, third, fourth and on it goes, if I can't afford my baccy it stresses me out no end, I never knew I could climb up a wall and hang off the ceiling like "spider pig can"...but I try if I got no smokes?

Hanging in there, and still trying. But as you say, it's an up and down ride.

The 7-day lockdown came at just the right time for me. If not, then I wasn't far off falling apart. The little break away from work, and not having to fake a smile was needed. There are thing's I'm having to deal with alone, and that is what conspiring against me.

Music has been very helpful, listening and interpreting what the singer is saying between the lines has been enlightening. Acknowledging and complimenting others is also something to consider, kind words have a greater good, criticism and hate only breeds criticism and hate. I have also found joy in writing.

As I said, I'm trying.

And how many don't take their medication when they should??
And how many members without depression smoke hydroponic pot for relaxation maybe once a week, not all day?

They, the folk I know and talk to daily have all got an issue with owning up to their own faults as people, they think they are failures, think they failed their family or parents!

Was their upbringing really that bad, some maybe be not all, what is it that makes a man want to give up and stop fighting?..and I mean stop fighting daily problems that all of us face at one time or another!
I was like every depressed person here, and it took a long time, years, decades to realise that I am the master of this ship, that I am responsible for everything that happens to that ship, me Billy, not anyone else.

Right now I am the happiest I have ever been, and I'm dying, and am happy about that, my only concern that does depress me is where my beloved 10 yr old cat ends up when I'm gone!...now that really does depress me!
