Leafy suburb people are special and don't have to comply with what's expected of the peasantry.
Just like those lovely folk from Rose Bay who poxilated Byron Bay.

That's probably more a reflection on the soccer community. Our local clubs are granted the right to make their own decision as to whether to use council grounds in bad weather, and they always do, and always trash them. No thought to the needs of other clubs/community.

And in tomorrow's news...... "13 new mystery cases in the bayside area with no known links. Lock down extended for 2 weeks".

I saw the lock down fatigue in the last lock down. Not as confident that we can get this round down to zero community for at least another 2 weeks.

Well we are in lock down now out here in western NSW. Magically I have now been given a date for my Pfizer jab after months on the waiting list. Maybe they've been given those supplies that they redirected from here to Sydney.

Over here in Perth the postie rides a 3 wheel bike, electric of course with plastic roof, when my TPS was delivered I was sent a text message that morning that delivery that day, dident get it, just small parcel, fit in letterbox easy peasy eh, or so you think!

No, got a text to pick it up at local mail centre, so I reattach my old TPS and go down there, I asked why it was not delivered when I was at home?
Was told postman must have his bike in full view on all deliveries?.....
I said he rides up to the letterbox, its 3 metres from road, double driveway and easy U turn, they do it all the time?

She said he had to get off the delivery trike to get to my door and my car was blocking his view, I was flabbergasted, he parks trike side on in front of my car, walks to back of car and front door 1 metre past back bumper?..
I said how the hell could he not keep his trike in view
Fair dinkum it sh.t me to tears!

Everything that comes to the ACT through Oz Post goes to Sydney first. Adds 1 or 2 days, unless it's the weekend and then add 4. I don't know why anyone uses them.

Looking forward also, to the MTA’s position on Monday. They were on the front foot earlier for NSW and I expect they will have taken legal advice as to how they maintain the right of members to trade ongoing, and advocate for customers to choose a specific member who best fits their needs.

Data valid as at 00:00 GMT August 14th 2021.

Note
: As not all Australian States report at the same time, the data below is based on the previous full day reporting.

490 new cases for Australia and 4 deaths so the CMR is 2.465%. NSW recorded another record high with 467 cases.

No new cases and no deaths for NZ so CMR is 0.892%.

The UK had a lower 29,143 cases yesterday and lower 93 deaths for a CMR of 2.097%.

A higher 155,297 new cases in the USA yesterday and higher 789 deaths sees CMR at 1.705%.

Other notable points: (weekend reporting)

Global cases pass 207M, the last 1M in 2 days;
Japan moves above Pakistan for total case numbers;

Vietnam (9,716); and
Japan (20,366);
... recorded new highs; those in blue for the second consecutive day and those in red for a third or more consecutive day.

No countries move above the 90th percentile for the 10 day period and no countries drop below.

The 2nd fortnight of close monitoring for both Florida and the UK has finished so here are the results. Note that these figures are based on 2 weeks worth of cases from a month ago and deaths in the last fortnight so they can be impacted if people actually last longer than 14 days.

In the last two weeks of July, the UK had 549,676 new cases and in the first 14 days of August they had 1,312 deaths so that's a CMR of 0.239% which is a lot better than the 0.446% of the previous fortnight. However, if that was extrapolated into a full year, they would still have 13M cases and 31k deaths which is a mortality rate of 61 per 100k of adult population - still almost double the Influenza/Pneumonia rate but perhaps closer to acceptable levels. UK Case number in the current fortnight are a bit better at ~410k which is a good sign but we'll have to wait and see what the mortality numbers are like in this coming period.

Florida recorded 192,395 cases in the fortnight and 645 deaths for a CMR of 0.335%. Extrapolated to a full year that would be 4.6M cases and 15,695 deaths at a rate of 131 deaths per 100k of adult population which probably isn't acceptable.

To put both of those into an Australian perspective:
If we had similar CMR and case rates to the UK we'd have 11,051 deaths per annum and at the Florida rates we'd have 23,051 deaths per annum - both still well above the 900 deaths in a bad flu year like 2019.

Of course you'd reasonably expect that as vaccination rates go up, the survival rate will improve with the bulk of the deaths then occurring amongst the unvaccinated assuming we don't get a more virulent / vaccination resistant strain.

Notwithstanding that, if we assume that 80% of the Australian adult population of 18M people are vaccinated (the current target) that still leaves 3.6M people who could potentially contract the virus and be at risk of death. Even at the UK CRM of 0.239% that's still almost 9k potential deaths in the worst case although it seems reasonable to assume that not all of them would contract it and the mortality rate would likely be lower as the non-vaxxers are more likely in the younger and supposedly less vulnerable age groups based on UK data where over 75% of 40+ people have had at least one shot but only about 60% of under 40's although some of that slant may be the way the roll-out was staged.

My “watches the audience” curiosity was piqued when I read about that.

Exactly how big is a million doses, assuming they don’t count the possibility of a bonus dose? Five doses per vial, 195 vials in a box the size of a strawberry grower’s cardboard tray. So it’s not unlike shipping a thousand trays of chilled strawberries!

Not sure how many in NSW have seen this drag-and-drop radius map:
https://2kmfromhome.com/5km
It may help some.

Also had a discussion with a GP this morning, formal letters for someone to carry explaining they provide compassionate care and assistance to a named third party, were absolutely not a problem. I suspect they’ll be flying off printers all over the place.

If the MTA (NSW) don’t issue a comment on the ability of people to exceed their normal travel radius for vehicle repair (ie, to continue patronising a mechanic familiar with the marque, process or vehicle) I will be asking them. (Doubt I’ll be the only one.) So far they have advocated successfully for NSW workshops to remain open as essential businesses, but this really needs more fleshing out now.

All State Premiers should just tell the truth, that's the best way to keep their citizens trust, they are drowning or clutching at straws, we know as much or more from this thread.
Gladys would be better off coming clean and just saying that she and her government " don't know what to do " but we are trying hard to get it right!

That's the logical thing to do, instead of espousing all this " knowledge " which is meaningless to the average person on the street, which by the way she is one!....an average person on the street?

We are drowning in a sea of political bullsh.t and the sea is bottomless, why has Poland sent us this 1 million doses?...what is the pay-off for that, they dident do it out of the goodness of their hearts, what do we or did we offer in return.

If you refer to the articles below, it seems a lot of the European countries ordered much more than they needed in the first place, and given the doses are about to expire, they are trying to sell them to recoup some of the $$$.
It just seems odd we have not been able to strike a deal with the US.

It would be interesting to know how long we have before we have to use these up. If they can get it administered from source within 2 weeks, they can also skip the special refrigeration requirements? Maybe possible for Sydney (the shipment lands there) but probably not possible for others.

Further tightening of Queensland's border has been announced, which will apply to essential workers attempting to enter from New South Wales, Queensland Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young said.

Essential workers, including emergency and health authorities, who are coming from NSW to Queensland must now have had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine before entering the state from Friday.

"I'm asking that, at the latest, by Friday and I hope most of them (essential workers) are already vaccinated, the latest by Friday they must have had at least one dose of vaccine," Dr Young said.
