I used to use runkeeper, but once you make the cut across to Strava, you'll be happy.

Note, it will bring out the competitive side in you eventually, but it is a great motivator to track your progress.. or lack of if you have time off like me :(

Garmin Vivofit band does it for you each day. Counts your steps, bluetooth sync easy to garmin connect via your phone or computer. Even tracks your sleep patterns.

I enjoy my sleep, I get to work early and watch the highlight.

The spectators need to get the (insert expletive) off the road and let the riders do what they do best.
Some spectators have their back turned while taking a selfie with 200 riders approaching

nope. i've ridden with guys that do, and have seen them get swooped!

i don't do anything, just hope i get through to about november unscathed. have been swooped twice already and it sure gives you a wake up. first i knew about it is the sound of its beak near my ear! they are quite stealth.

I can hear the flapping of wings. As soon as I hear that I peddle faster, reach down for my water bottle and time my swiping action to the beat of their attack in attempt to protect myself. Makes them think twice if you are willing to defend yourself I have found.

I'm sure it is the same for you guys, but to paint you a picture:

- Lunch ride is circa 30km
- There are magpies at all different points of the ride
- They are not in sync, so one will have a nest and be a bad mofo, whilst the others are just a bit annoyed at you.

So you'll ride 1 day, and magpie at magpie spot 1 will kamikaze straight in to your head, whilst all the others just fly over you, flap their wings and go away..

Ride day 2, you think you've got it sussed... oh no you don't!! Magpie 1 doesn't care, but magpie 2 is pretty sure you're the sole reason bad things happen in this world..

Rinse and repeat...

As Prydey said, what a "fun" time of year!!!!

Looks like Alberto Contador will miss the Vuelta due to injury setback , incurred during the TDF .. There were a number of rides whom failed at pivotal points in the TDF - and i am sure that the upcoming Vuelta is going to be worth watching .

After having a 30 year sabbatical from riding bikes I have now joined the lycra brigade again.

After losing 35kgs and trying to look after myself a bit more ( but still working way too many hours) the crunch finally came in February when I ended up having a quadruple heart bypass.
So I have been given another chance again I might add, soI have decided to get back out riding mainly just to get fitter. Not getting too serious with it as I did that years ago racing competively for nearly 20 years.

I bought myself a road bike and have been out a few times each week for the past 3 weeks. Slowly building up to 25-30ks at the moment.
My doctor told that it would take a while to get some reasonable fitness back again after the bypass and boy he wasn't kidding. The first couple of rides I was lucky to do 5ks.
But at least I am slowly getting better which is the main thing.
So if any of the Sydney members see me out in the Parramatta area make sure you say hi

That's awesome Dave!!

Would love to have a catch up ride with you.

My missus is in Greystanes, so I'm in that area a lot, so we could do the canal, then out to Parra, or even Olympic Park.

Amazing work Dave. Sorry to hear of your heart bypass surgery. That's pretty serious stuff there. Glad to hear you are making the changes to better you life mate. That's great news for you and your family.

Ease back into it. If you were a racer of years gone by, your body will remember it and help you along the way.

I don't live there but I've driven in Syd traffic for the last 40 or so years and seen the way they drive. I figure anyone that rides a bike there deserves a Victoria Cross !
