I used to race slot cars back in my early teens (mid 70's). They were around the 8 inch size with soft foam/rubber rear tyres. For rear tyre grip we used to apply some super sticky solution called "goop". The slot car centre sold it in a small bottle (eye drop bottle size) & you just dribbled a couple of drops on the rear tyres. It worked very well & was good for around 6 laps.

Found out i get my new work car in 3 weeks and some loose details of the body thats getting put on the back. Sounds pretty decent. However i did tell my boss im not giving the rental van back. I like it too much. Good vans are amazing. I had a crap van for 6 and a half years. So practical but a crappy car. So good van life is bliss.

Finally got a Level 2 home care package locked in for my father. More running around for me to get him to group sessions etc but, stops him wearing out the carpet and pulling the curtains off their tracks quite so much.

Took a bit of effort to achieve something approaching family consensus but we got there. It is provided by a non-profit organisation who also run some of the very few nursing homes that have never been sanctioned for breaches of standards. So there is - subject to it being as expected - a dependable progression as he fades away. A relief, overall.

Going through a similar exercise with our mum at the moment, we have just got her into transitional care, it will be a great day when we can get her settled into something more permanent, but it's a long drawn out process....

Got a big thumbs-up from a Duc pilot last night when I totally squeezed the ute against the kerb to let him filter to the front of a queue. Rewarded with a decent launch, too. Love the “bag of nuts and bolts” sound of those motors at warm idle.

I got a half price lunch today. It was the cafe owners appreciation that i got him out of a bind yesterday. He called in just before peak lunchtime traffic with a broken piece of equipment. I fixed it just in time, well, i didnt have the part and to get the part from a wholesaler it would waste an hour getting it, so i called in a favour from a mate and made it happen. The part was a simple female spade lug. So a 7c part, but the cafe didnt have to turn away any customers. Ill probably keep getting a discount, untill the cafe owner gets the bill. Works callout fee for a 3 day turnaround is reasonable. Same day is also not bad. Its the emergency get there asap callout fee thats a bit steeper.

My father had his first checkup since the tumor was removed from his bladder in July. And it was great news as there were no new tumors. Whoo hoo!

Mines have been doing this since way back when the 40 series was new, sometimes accidentally other times not. A few deliberate ones from YT, the bottom video is a Wabco 3200 from back in my early MT Newman WA days, the clip is from a really bad film partly made on site called Starship, wasn't to bad though, we got to sit around and have a laugh watching these guys for a few days, there's even a clip on YT of a fight scene on the same truck....

Times have certainly changed and safety is much more paramount now, there was absolutely no reason for the fitter to have parked there..

Our site as do most now not just BMA, have designated lv parking bays and bunds separating traffic interraction.

We also close the Go Line for maintenance..

After some more work dialing in my slot car, i took it to the track. So on the gp track, my prior best was a 1 off 8.3 second lap. Consistant flat 9s. My goal being 7.7. The track was good today, but initially my car was rubbish. Front end was good but the rear had nothing. So 10 second laps to start with. So more tyre prep and yeah, i cut a lower 8.3, but it was now a consistant 8.3 to 8.6 car. So i let the track owner lap my car, he cut faster laps then me but told me everything i already knew. So i sanded my tyres more as there was uneven wear and whilst id sorted the main tricky part of the track, i worked on the other tricky section. So consistant 8.3 second laps dropped. I backed up an 8.033 lap with an 8.003 then a 7.947 second lap. Its no 7.70 which is my goal, well, stock tyre goal. Maybe tyres soon, but id rather work more on the driver first. The car has run 7.60s with another driver as it sits. But im happy to break into the 7s and i didnt break the slot car.

Theres 3 things i really dont like. Crowded places, shopping when its not man shopping where i know exactly what i want and exactly which aisle it is in and the sound of my ex wifes voice. So i had to do my christmas shopping. I got around 2 of the 3 things i do not like. Electronic stuff is great for getting someone else to buy stuff for me. So i got out of shopping and crowded places. Down side it was my ex wife doing my shopping. But hey, now all i have to do is closer take my kid (i spent way too much on him today, his mum yelled at me when i ok'd purchases) to bunnings to buy my grandma a token window sill suculent, my grandpa a token cactus and my mum an oddball plant. I really hope i can find another pineapple plant. I got her 1 last year and it matured so she had not only a talking point but a pineapple. They take 2 years to mature so if i can find one, ill buy that so she can have alternating pineapple plants so 1 per year. Honestly i reckon for mum the pineapple was the most random but most thoughtful gift ever from me. And a tonne cheaper then the phone i bought her. So christmas is almost done.

Buy a pineapple from the greengrocers, gently twist off the head, peel back some of the leaves, you'll see the roots already growing underneath them and plant in some decent potting mix. It should be rooted and growing by Christmas. If you're lucky sometimes they leave the heads on the super sweet hybrid varieties.

Mate, my mum lives in a penthouse so 2 balconys, 4 if you include the outcrop thingys. But oddball potted colour. Its a left feild gift but a talking point and well received. Im proud of how oddball i went with that. And everybody asks. She has tomato vines, weeds like spinich and rocket and stuff. Citrus like a lemon tree and a lime tree. So the pineapple was different. Im yet to find another to turn it into a yearly harvest, but pashionfriut trees are available. Different again, but atleast deserts only.

Yeah your on a winner, they're perfect for balconies, patios and limited spaces. We're trying one indoors next to a well lit window and it seems to be doing well. Time will tell if fruits.
Another interesting one to consider if you want to get her something different is the native finger lime. They're super tough and grow in pots to about 50cm high. The fruit are full of little citrus bubbles like caviar. Great in summer salads. They come up in Bunnings pretty regularly.

I was thinking maybe passion fruit trees, shying away from citrus, my mum has weeds and citrus. So oddball but usefull. That's my game

I think there are dwarf ones which produce edible fruit at small size. But most passionfruit requires space to ramble and a frame to train it on. Has she got an aloe plant?
