Not to drag he thread off track but this bit got my attention. A mate has been going thru the process of getting plans done for his house. He's had the block for a while but because house prices have dropped they want it all valued again. He didn't need mortgage insurance before, possibly could now. Might just mean saving longer again but it's not just qld.

I'm in the hunter valley. We've just put 20 contractors on at work & our pit seems to be one of the few going against the trend atm. Hopefully things start pick up soon for everyone out there!

Which pit mate? I did some time in the Hunter and Liddell was pretty good, Bengalla the worst. ZBut I still had a lot in Qld so I came back. I do kinda wonder how it'd be now if I stuck it out.

I'm at Mangoola mate, a glencore pit. Good place to be as far as I'm concerned. Plenty out the worse of than us. Drayton south is still awaiting approval if it gets up then mt thorley/warkworth.

Get plenty of people in the area complain about the pits but there wouldn't be the towns with people the way they are if they weren't here. The industry supports a lot of jobs that are totally unrelated

Mangoola was very new when I was there 3 years ago. Back then I noticed that the Xstrata (now Glencore) sites were good places, up here in the Bowen Basin Glencore is a dirty word.

What pit are you at? I was struggling as a contractor there so I moved to WA a month ago and hate being away from all of my family

We haul in the same region, for a different mob.
We've been cut down from unlimited tonne per day first half of the year, to 8,000 from about May.
Last month all us contractors got knocked down to 4,000 tonne per day.
As a result we have about 20 road trains parked up and a lot single shifted... a lot of money not making money.
On the plus side a good excuse to eff off some of the dead weight, a one way ticket outa here.

If you're working for CPC get used to it, they work at nearly every site in the goldfields doing shutdowns etc,
