Seen it before, thought they had little pop ups of where it is and local history.

No map but they do have snippets of related trivia from time to time.

And one that went near the Pt Adelaide Wool Stores from Rosewater.... |

I remember in the late 90's/Early 2000's. My aunty joined the NSWPol. So initially based in Goulburn. She was posted to Sydney.
I lost count of how many hours i spent sitting on one of these. Over the years though the stops in Southern NSW at least started to disappear ive noticed. Id love to go on it again at some point because i can.

Fun fact..... XPT's use the same Hella amber lights as early Aussie built cabover Kenworth's.

That's the B end of a 44 class the same as the 930 South Australian Railways loco at least from 935 onwards the first 6 were were single ended 930's . The 421 class is like the Commonwealth Railways GM and Victorian Railways S class except it has a driving compartment in the B- end. Imho I reckon that the XD train is being hauled by a 421 Class as stated by Paul.
I think I may have to lie down that was a huge amount of foam even from me Btw I googled the hell out of it Last edited by Sar4890; 28-12-2023 at 05:36 PM. Reason: More to add |

Several times I've boarded for the next station or even Wang and they've said no it OK and have a chat. btw, if you reserve they will book you in a busy carriage. The end carriage heading south to Melb (front to Albury) is the unbooked one so there always heaps of room.

Growing up listening to C W McCall RIP, I always fancied a ride on the Silverton train in Colorado.

The last VLine colour scheme change before the new trains came onto the scene.
I liked the older diesel hauled carriages, they were always big comfy bench seats not unlike the Falcon. I guess this is the very last "Spirit of Progress". We no longer name our longhaul train anymore.

Yeah I'm a bit of a fan of vintage diesels particularly the South Australian Railways 900 class as I used to see them around where I lived often. Alco's ,the locomotive type, were also prevalent in my neck of the woods as were English Electric 800 class locos. That being said Steam traction is still where its at.

Lots of big loco's roll past my place, the 5.30pm container special bound for $ydney rattles the place apart.
We still have SSR working a few streamliners along this line. Internet picture which I thought looked cool.

Didn't know this had been on in Goulburn in 2022.
Been to the roundhouse museum here before and its gradually improving with funding.

I didn't get to see bulldogs until the creation of ANR/AN. I live deep in the former Broad gauge SAR territory and it was until later in life I got to experience them. I also realised that like the Ford vs Holden rivalry there is an EMD vs ALCO rivalry as well. Throw in the Sulzers and English Electrics into the mix and there was an eclectic mix of loco and engine manufacturers ,in the case of Sulzer , represented here in SA.

Geeze, they scrapped lots of good loco's over the years. When they were replacing all the 38 class steam loco's the government was keen to get rid of the lot. Took a lot of effort to secure the famous 3801 as a working Heritage engine thanks to lots of railway volunteers.
