Maxx Performance has managed to tune their Raptor, although they don't have access to reflash they've got to do it by intercepting signals










We're looking at the new XR6 Turbo Ute here.

Early limiting factor mechanically is the factory intercooler,

It's just like the early BA days, having to use signal benders like the unichip to tune them. Someone will crack the ECU eventually.

Makes good power with more boost too. There's an Explorer ST in the US running the same engine running 10's. Stock internals.

In saying that i've never liked the sound of the Raptor Ecoboost. It's loud, i'll give it that. But it just has no tone and is too blurty.

Sound is subjective. I've personally heard of many people who reckon it sounds great. And just as many who reckon it sounds crap.

Very true.

I remember going weak at the knees hearing the sound of an E46 M3 CSL at local TARGA event. One of my mates couldn't understand the appeal of the tinny/raspy exhaust note. He did drive a VZ Commodore with the delightful Alloytec, so he was hardly a good gauge on a good sounding vehicle.





At the very least, the Raptor doesn't sound like the noisy, chugging, clattery diesel engines common to the class.

The v6 Tt ng Ranger that blew me away on an inside lane overtake sounded pretty good to me

Sound or no that Raptor is an absolute beast.
Can win the traffic light dragstrip in the week and take the pigs and chickens to market by 4wd track on a Sunday, or something like that

How can you not like the sound of a CSL? They sound amazing. So metallic and mechanical sounding.

With the Raptor, mid 12s with a dodgy 'tune' intercepting signals and some tyres that aren't bull**** AT crap on road/crap off road jobs.

That thing weighs over 2000kg as well so its hustling.

I'd like to see a 'street' Raptor, lowered, decent tyres from the factory, an onroad focused job.

That car and that engine are why I love inline 6's so much, a very influential car for me.

It's a travesty that BMW don't do this sort of engine anymore.

Looks mint - maybe not the bolt on flares just pump them out a bit with a new pressed steel variation. Also 7.3L Godzilla, if the 3L Ecoboost V6 fits in there then an OHV V8 sure as **** will.

We can call it the 'Mustang Ranger' since we're destroying the Mustang brand by slapping it on everything.

They can't go any wider with Raptor, the factory can't do it without mega expensive upgrades.

It's why the new gen Raptor isn't any wider than the old one, despite the rest of the range being wider than the equivalent PX.

V8 would be nice but won't happen. A 3.5 Ecoboost from the F150 Raptor would be the easy engine upgrade, as it's pretty similar to the 3 litre.

The four-cylinder – borrowed from the Toyota HiLux – is expected to have more power and torque than the V8 and deliver better fuel economy and lower emissions without sacrificing towing, payload, or off-road ability.

While the four-cylinder outputs for the Toyota LandCruiser 70 Series are yet to be confirmed, the 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel in the Toyota HiLux is currently available in 150kW/420Nm, 150kW/500Nm and 165kW/550Nm configurations (depending on the model).

As a guide, the 4.5-litre V8 turbo diesel in the Toyota LandCruiser 70 Series has outputs of 151kW and 430Nm, with peak torque delivered between 1200rpm and 3200rpm.

$50 they wont fix the wheel track problem on the 4 cylinder one, just because no investment and $120,000 vehicle

I still reckon there's a missed opportunity here,

I reckon Toyota missed an opportunity as well. They could have started clearing out any unwanted inventory from the 1970's and '80's and marketed the 70 series as even more original, and it would still sell to the usual crowd.

70 series, now with wind up windows and manual choke and crank handle start for that extra reliability you've come to love....

Euro VI is coming for Australia in 2024, so maybe its a precursor to them icing the turd rolled in glitter 1VD-FTV 4.5L V8? I'm not sure if they want to spend spondoolies on getting it up to scratch for Euro VI, its going to be hard one suspects.

Given how they just upped its GVM to move it into a different vehicle category to avoid the side impact safety regulations, wouldn't surprise me if the 2.8L Hilux job is to extend the life of the platform.

I can't figure out how they can't fix the rear track on the cruiser but can make the hilux 100mm all round wider in the last 1/4 of its life cycle

I know someone who decided she wanted to buy a 79 and spend north of $10k converting it to auto. Shook me to hear that someone wanted to convert *to* auto rather than the other way!
