I've worked in aged care breifley.

It's a lot of work... hard, smelly labour intensive and emotionally draining.

It's also a real testament to your strength of character. Good on ya mate.

Schweet...

I must admit, I have had fleeting moments of ditching my career plans for the ambos and going and joining the Metros. Oh well... I'll just stay as a wannabe volunteer for a now.

How much? I might be in need of services lol. Nah really, I am planning to start on low cost massage for women in crisis/financial need, because most therapists charge the earth. I have just opened my business and gotten organised and am about to sort out how low I can actually go (after room rental, oils etc).

How much for a cheapie kitchen, installed? Mine's still 70s green and has a mouse in it which I can't catch (have been trying for a month now).

You two, get a room!

OMG.... Bindi.. you ARE a classic!! (Love it)

There was nothing wrong with the army, that is why I did it for 13 years and would do it again. I just got tired of going away all the time and missing out on seeing my daughter grow up. I also got tired of high ranking people that were in a different job tell me how to do mine, they think because they have rank they know how to do it all. I enjoy medicine and reached a point where promotion was going to mean less clinical work and more admin, so I decided to get out and get my clinical fix on the general population.
I now consider I have the best job in the world, I even look forward to going back to work after days off (sick hey). Having said that, I also look forward to days off so I guess I just look forward to life! Happy as a pig in poo!

Sorry, WAY OT there....:
Meh, OT is still interesting reading to me lol. Are you sure these ppl weren't around London last week? Sound like a cult/terrorist organisation with that "expendable" word.

My cult will be very different. I will make chocolates that have a secret yet miraculous weight loss formula in it. I will have developed this, sold it worldwide and gotten totally completely filthy stinking rich from it. Then I will have men on request, begging to be in my cult (there will be a waiting list!) and fulfil my every wanton wicked desire... I will be a Goddess on Earth...

Did I just say all that out loud?

I am assuming that you were regular Army then...

I can understand why you would leave the army if you had a young family. I'm trying to get in and do all my training and do all the travel while I'm still young and unattached.

You do have one of the best and worst jobs around... any advice you can give me about how to get in? (to both Army and Ambos)

Completed an Accounting Degree in about 2 and half years.. Worked as an accountant for six months and thought this is so boring and made a career change.... :

So now i am training to be a Rope Access Operator which I hopefully will become by the end of this year, and hopefully a Confined Space Rescue Technician.. The work is alot more exciting.. : Its great to help people...

Best advice for getting into the army; be patient. Manpower are the most useless bunch of people, I fail to see how they got hold of the Defence recruiting contract. They are sitting fairly high up in my cons list for joining again. I could probably apply tomorrow and finish the 2 and a half years left of my apprenticeship before they sent me anywhere.

Another hint for employment to the Defence Forces is when being interviewed, listen carefully to the question and answer with what they want to hear. Don't go overboard and try and be Rambo's clone either. That has the opposite affect. They don't need that mentality either. Another very successful hint is if you partake in any type of recreational drug, forget about a career in the defence forces. Plenty of people ( and I do mean plenty, often more than half that turn up) don't make it past the urine test, which is the very first thing they put you through at recruiting. The number of people who are told to leave after that test is astounding.
My current occupation and training is a spray painter. Whilst I enjoy it, it does absolutely nothing for you health wise!!!

It's a bit too late for me now. I already have arthritis.
Sprained ankles 20+ times each. All ligaments are stuffed.
It doesn't help that I spend all day walking around in the supermarket on concrete floors either. :gren:

Gerardine, it seems that you have an inherent weakness there. My daughter, who's 9, has the same thing. I would suggest a Naturopath and a Podiatrist.
