SAFFRAN WON!!?? Thats Crazy! Its nowhere near as nice as Stevo and Leahs car!
What, You take a GLi, Paint It orange inside and out, leave the GLI seats in it put BA XR6 badges on it and you win!!!??? Insanity I say.... Plain Insanity.... That car (or its owner for that matter) Didn't impress ma all that much. I only took one photo because it caught my eye as I passed it. |

the interior is largely stock.. the bodykit *can* be fitted from factory, both cars that won prices had the same front and the engines weren't heavily modified. YET both cars really do catch your eye, and i for one couldn't beleive how clean both cars were, i'd love to be able to get my car looking that good, but i don't have the patience (coz i don't think it'd come up that good :P)

It would be intersting to see their judging criteria idf they do have one. I would imagine there woud be no bias towards what age the car is how much has been spent etc. I reckon they go for the finer details. Damo was telling me his car missed out on a prze t another car show because there was 2 grass clipping on the front seat, and a bit of dust on the battery box where you couldnt easily reach with a rag anyway.

Karl, It wasnt just Damo's car. Discovery said they meant "the cars" there. Thats things they look for. Alot of what it is, is effort, cleanliness, and condition.
The thing is you HAVE to clean in the bits you cant easily get a rag into. My engine bay is 99% stock, but we got toothbrushes, cottonbuds , anything we could fit in to clean the ugly bits. *But the question is, where do you stop?* We do it for fun, the cleaner you keep your ride, the longer it will last ,and the better conidtion it will stay. No point in having a shiny paint job, or standout engine modifications, with oil and grime making it look shit. The judges arent looking for soley modifications. Here is what the SA judges are given for a critea, and i dare say most of the AFD Judges are based on similar. 1. Externals & Paint: Externals: Chrome, lights, wipers, wheels, caps and trims (mags, nuts and centerpieces), bumpers grill, glass, mirrors and any modification or extras. Paint: Gloss, dry spots, runs, chips and crazing etc. 2. Body & Boot (Regardless of paint Condition) Body: Dents, rippled or wavy panels, rust, under paint scratching, panel fit and alignment. Boot: General condition of the boot area, spare wheel and everything displayed, check for any visible rust. 3. Interior & Trim: Seats, carpets, floor mats, dash. Hood lining and door trims (looking for any blemishes inside the car) 4. Mechanical condition: General cleanliness and any obvious mechanical defects. Tyres, bad oil leaks, loose components exhaust and fuel Systems) 5. Engine Bay: General condition and cleanliness, paint and chrome condition, all hoses wiring, cooling system and all fixtures and fittings Vehicles are not judged on originality, as there are far too many vehicle types to find experts for all models in each category. All vehicles are to be judged on the quality of presentation on the day. I thought on the day that SAFFRAN was crap. But when you look at what the judges look for. You understand... You could have eaten food off his engine bay. (Note: I just got in trouble for saying SAFFRAN was crap.. : But at first looking at it, i thought it was.) Not a big fan of using matt black paint on shiny taillights and making them dull.
And the Engine bay, before the owner greasied me and put the bonnet down. I'm with stevo I didnt think it was all that special, If cleanliness was the criteria, I guess it was deserving, However a Gli with an XR front in an outdated Commodore Hue doesn't wave my flag very much. Sorry. : -That's Life, Goodnight. |

agree with ya danny, if anything the red EL XR6 that was up on the stands should have won, being the cleanest car in the world let alone AFD

So if you want to win. Buy a xr6 drive it stright home, park it in the garage and only take it out on show days.
They need to make it for best daily driven car. |

The FPV & XR club of Vic used to have two classes for their show and shine, which i think is a great idea. The class's where Show, under 15000 kays per year. And Street, over 15000 kays per year. I won street at the 2003 FPV day. :P

If you squint at the right angle his car and mine(before the HO kit), look like twins.
