It's not theory. I already gave you a link to an asteroid strike for you to comment on which you seemed to ignore. Quite simply, a 100km asteroid striking the Earth would be absolutely devistating and you could kiss civilisation goodbye, guaranteed. An asteroid of 5-10m is equivalent to Hiroshima!

If dust particle vs golf ball is an example of very good theory of an Academic when making a comparison of asteroid/meteor impacts on the Earth then I hope there's some sort of peer review. It's an absolutely absurd comparison.

GT needs a kick for starting this thread, - We all know this stuff is never going to happen. Why ? Because i seen it on the movies, will smith flies that big mother space thingo up and blows the alieans away and that oil rig crew gang flew up to the astroids and they smacked that puppy. So no astroids no aliens, just ask hollywood.

The Ronnie Johns Half Hour was a good show when it was on the idiot box. One of the characters on their had a good bit of advice for times like this. His name was "CHOPPER". His advice: HARDEN THE F%*& UP. I must agree in this case.

out of my 183 threads posted on this forum . this one is so far my 3rd most popular.
my 1st was ghosts.
closely followed by number 2 UFO's, mars life everywhere. and 3rd of course this thread.

ok now there is a few threads on cars to. but not in the top 3 . perhaps i'll have to start taking the GT TO the track. and perhaps lower the diff ratio from 3:45/1
to 3:73/1.

Like I said Rodp. Can't we agree to disagree. As far as the dust particle vs Golf ball comparison is concerned why is it absurd, it is simply a common sense equation of size vs weight vs speed. Put crudely the earth is a big rock covered in water with a centre of unknown quantities, and in size comparison a meteor even 100klm wide is a fair size comparison, peer review on a theory is only anothers opinion of a hypothisis.

For anyone that is interested NASA’s Near earth object program.

“ Potentially Hazardous Asteroids (PHAs) are currently defined based on parameters that measure the asteroid's potential to make threatening close approaches to the Earth. Specifically, all asteroids with an Earth Minimum Orbit Intersection Distance (MOID) of 0.05 AU or less and an absolute magnitude (H) of 22.0 or less are considered PHAs. In other words, asteroids that can't get any closer to the Earth (i.e. MOID) than 0.05 AU (roughly 7,480,000 km or 4,650,000 mi) or are smaller than about 150 m (500 ft) in diameter (i.e. H = 22.0 with assumed albedo of 13%) are not considered PHAs. “

Spot on.

Now use the 'Horizons' calculator on the NEO website and check out what MN4 2004 "Apophis" is doing on April 13 2029.

Give you a hint: it's 0.00025 AU from Earth, whereas the moon averages about .003

Daniel

Have you conducted such an experiment? Have you fired a dust particle in excess of 50kph/sec at a golf ball and observed under a microscope the damage that is caused? Have you compared the composition of a dust particle to an asteroid, the Earth's surface to the surface of a golf ball? It's just wrong on so many levels it's difficult to pick a level where it's correct. Or have you not only theorised the comparison but also theorised the outcome?

We can agree to disagree on what would happen if an asteroid 100km in diameter impacted the Earth, but do it based on observed and measured history of such events, not the collision of 2 objects with absolutely no comparison to an asteroid and the Earth. If I strike a cockroach with a coke can, and it survives, I can conclude that road trauma is a myth, right?

In 2002, an asteroid roughly 10m in diameter breached our atmosphere and exploded with the intensity of about twice that of the bomb dropped on Hiroshima. This was observed and measured. Extrapolating that simple event is likely to give you a better result than firing a dust particle at a golf ball, wouldn't you think? That asteroid was ***10 meters*** in diameter.

want to see how deep the rabbit hole goes

www.davidicke.com

when it comes to the subject of 2012 particulary the 21 dec. that is the peak of which our system is in line with the central sun for a re-calibration i suppose you could call it. the frequency of this system is gradually vibrating higher (its been scientifically recorded). as we get closer to 2012 we can see greater changes, some manifesting in the physical and others on a metaphysical level.
just my two cents but hopefully more people start having an open mind when it comes to things like this, but check out the link. news you wont see on a murdoch channel

Central sun?! We're on an outer spiral arm of our galaxy! The centre of our galaxy consists of super-massive black holes. Not a Sun! Recalibration?! :

There is no rabbit hole. David Icke is another case of mixing up the facts with different stories.

The accepted science of 2012 is basically this:
Our solar system is not in the Milky Way, it is in a dwarf galaxy that is in the process of being assimilated into the Milky Way, and has been for quite some time. Approximately every 26,000 years or so our solar system rotates in our dwarf galaxy and every 33 million years crosses through the equatorial disc that is the rotating majority of the Milky Way. When this occurs our planetary system comes under additional gravitational forces. In addition, as we approach the Milky Way's equatorial region we experience increased cosmic, gamma, X-ray, etc bombardment that, as has been the case since the Milky Way captured our galaxy, directly effects everything from our sun's solar patterns, the planets magnetosphere's and the planets atmosheric conditions to name a few.

Since around 1980 it has been noted that the earths magnetic pole has been steadily weakening. It is believed that this is a result of this increasing bombardment. Evidence abounds that magnetic pole reversals have occured many times in earths history, so if it occurs while we're here it just happens to be our great misfortune to be around when it does. The steady weakening of our magnetosphere reduces the shielding that it provides from the ever present, and increasing, bombardment of energetic and non-energetic particles from sources in space. An endless list could be created with what effect this has on our ecosystem and it's biodiversity. Accelerated extinctions of plant and animal life, global warming (yes, thats right- the greenhouse gases humans produce don't help the situation but the root cause is a natural event we have no control over), atmospheric changes in regards to weather systems- from droughts to flooding, the list goes on.

In the last quarter of 2012 our sun will reach its solar maximum. This event accompanied with our traversing the equatorial disc of the Milky Way, and a not-unheard-of but rare relative alignment of the sun and our gas giants will place earth in a zone that should make it a memorable experience for us all. We are all riding right into our own destiny and we have no control to stop this ride to get off. 2 passes ago through the equatorial disc, the dinosaurs had a rock problem.

Dec 21 comes straight from the Mayan calender and seems a good date to fit a story given the above.

To address this fault, Pope Gregory advanced the calender to make up the 10 days and finer tuned the leap year cycle in it so that it now takes 3,323 years to get 1 day out of whack. It's not perfect but this is the calender we use today.

Yeah they used two calenders...a long count and a short count, but that bit you quoted doesn't refer to either of them. The quote refers to the Julian and Gregorian calenders, both of Roman origin and the latter in use today.

i have no idea about this stuff as there have been predictions before that have not happened

however we have great technology these days and i guess scientists could predict that it will collide with us and create havok

i will not lose any sleep over this but i find it intriauing and an interesting read

extremely interesting it is , to me too. look , what comes out of the wood work when these threads appear. some great sites and conspiricies . dont know about that david icke bloke after watching his vids.
i mean LIZARDS !! running the human race in disguise . and interbreeding with humans in top secrecy. WHY? I HAVN'T SEEN ANY LIZARD CRACK A FAT OVER A HUMAN YET. ( must be a funny race).
imagine if that conspiricy came true ???? the ILLUMINATTI conspiricies really take the cake i think. ( goes off to throw a few grass hoppers at the missus to see if she catches any with her tongue) isnt that all you'd have to do to mr bush to prove it . throw some his way during a speech !!!!
mind you this theory is gathering lots and lots of support.
back on topic now to the planet the size of jupitor sneaking up on us.

For those interested in the Mayan calender....here's a video by Ian Lungold that explains thing's more clearly. And no, there won't be a giant planet that swings by and destroys the earth.

According to the Mayan calender, we're currently in the "5th night", and we'll be entering the "6th day" on Nov 19th 2008....interesting stuff

Interesting video. I'm not sure I agree about the calender ending but that's just my opinion.

I like to casually delve into anything 'universe' but your knowledge clearly far exceeds mine. I wasn't aware of Planet X ending life here but your contribution has been very interesting. Thanks.

Anyone heard of asteroid 1991VG?
I'll be interested to hear any more about this when it comes past next.
